England generally does and always has had a better music scene. Just thought I'd put it out there.
America likes money, pop artists that hypnotize you and steal your money and it goes to record label boss's. They promote the talent to a minimum 'cause only higher beings are able to comprahend the amazingness. So it means LESS money...
Music is subjective. You may not like the current music but others do.Diablo-BSometimes you people piss me off. Many of those people who supposedly "like" crap music only like it 'cause It's ALL that they're hearing. All that's being marketed to them. There IS such a thing as bad music. Ironically enough The Sound of Muzak by Porcupine Tree just came on...

There's no such thing as bad music. I think almost the entire underground/indie scene is pretentious trash does that make it trash?

A lot of it is trash, yes.I remember when I was a 14-year-old music elitist too, it's a phase you'll grow out of.JML897Well thank christ for that.

Yes, but people have differing ideas on what's bad.
Believe it or not, there are people who think the music you listen to is bad.

It often does not occur to people who take elitism to a new level.Beethoven, Chopin, Death, Cynic, Gordian Knot, Exivious, Agalloch, Yngwie Malmsteen, Jason Becker and many others.[QUOTE="ColonelVodka"]

You're entitled to your opinon, but really, I think the idea that any of that stuff, with the exception of Chopin and Beethoven, is better than The Beatles or The Stones or Radiohead is downright lauaghble.

I would very much disagree with you. That's not a trend. That's a wisdom. And they play Pink Floyd on the Radio too don't they? All got to do with your station. "Fresh pop hits FM" or similar radio stations are the bad, evil ones. Deep, complex and technically brilliant rock bands that play what they love. Not someone who writes for the money.I don't neccesarily think writing for the money is a bad thing if one is talented enough.
I mean, Elton John wrote some great songs in the 70s and he admitted that he does it partly for the money.
That being said, his 80s work (with the exception of a handful of songs) and most of his 90s stuff is pretty awful.

I suppose it just boils down to personal taste. Everyone has preferences and something they want out of their music, and what they have patience for. Personally, I can't listen to any speed metal. I appreciate the skill it takes to play fast, but it just kills any ability to compose music that isn't soulless; It's just too technical and hollow. Yet, my friend can't listen to slower jazz, folk, ambient, etc. because it can't keep his interest.[QUOTE="heysharpshooter"][QUOTE="DmadFearmonger"]Dream Theater, Tool, Radiohead, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, King Crimson, Rush, Steve Vai, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Pink Floyd Those are a few.
