^ Exactly, and thats the wrong with music today. Mainstream only happens because people are just too damn lazy to search for better music! :(Bloodseeker23
Maybe they like the music? No need to search if they feel that the radio gives them their music needs.

Step one: get an XM radio.

Step two: pick a random station; listen to it for that whole day.

Step three: choose a different station; slowly choose a favorite.

scratch all that, just log onto pandora.com and you'll get plenty of artist recommendations for the music you like. why pay?

Still, they can just wait for someone to come on the radio that they like. There's more than one radio station, so they can just switch stations. Not all the radio stations play the same genre of music.

sirius is great (i love my howard stern show, even post artie), but for the people low on funds pandora is great, or even last.fm (which isn't nearly as great IMO)...

XMU (the indie channel) is pretty freaking great.

So is Coffee House (all acoustic).

most terrestrial radio stations are horrible nowadays though, do you not agree? internet radio is better in every single way, it gives way to artisits and bands you've never heard before. not the same **** over and over again everyday.

Do I agree? Not really. Internet radio is a cool tool to find other genres and music of course. I could still find new artists on the radio if I switched stations from time to time. I only listen to Internet radio only because I don't really own a radio so I have no idea what kind of music is played on the general radio other than when in the car. I guess I just don't get annoyed so quickly music wise like everyone else. *shrugs*

Your looking at the mainstream too much perhaps you should go underground and listen to amazingly talanted bands.

I'm pretty sure he was thinking Moonlight Sonata.

That's quite a conclusion to jump to. The collection of Beethoven's piano sonatas (and that's just the piano sonatas, not the sonatas for cello or violin and piano) comes in two volumes, the first of which has 17 compositions.

I wish that this trend would continue into the future, but the music industry has stifled the means of exposure most bands had available even fifteen years ago(and further back). I don't think many people will, in twenty years, look back at the 00s and see acts like Spoon, Sigur Ros, TV on the Radio, The National, Okkervil River and My Morning Jacket as classics, nor would I expect their work to be readily found on mainstream radio at that time either as many bands from 20+ years back are these days.

Yeah, it is. I find that having a distinctive sound to one's voice is more important than technically excellent singing.

The entire audio industry is going downhill as people stopped caring about quality. Both in the artists and in audio equipment. It won't be very hard to find someone listening to a 128kbps MP3 Lil Wayne song on an iPod with Monster Beats headphones.

[QUOTE="GreySeal9"]

[QUOTE="matastig"] well i'm a musician since 1990 and i have a question for you , can you please explain how Bieber and Gaga are talented?!??lol

matastig

No offense, but how do we know you're any good?

Gaga has a strong singing voice and can play piano and can definitely write a memorable pop song (Bad Romance).

Beiber has a little bit of singing talent even if his music is not very good.

well first No offense, but i find it hard to argue with a teenager who's a fan to one of the worst copycat in the 21st century and try to prove myself to.

Gaga has a strong singing voice! really?? can you even read music sheets? at least to tell the difference when the correct note is produced!

oh and this 5 years old girl want to say hi to your Gaga.

and this armless guy want to teach Gaga how to play the guitar you know just in case she loses her breasts or something.

and again No offense to you at all!! but to those false prophets..

Wow, you got pretty mad, didn't you?

First of all, you have no idea what age I am. Hint: I'm not a teenager.

Secondly, who said I was a fan? I respect her talent and I like some of her songs, but that doesn't make me a fan.

Thirdly, one can hit all the correct notes they want. That doesn't neccesarily make them a good singer. Seriously, Gaga may not be the greatest vocalist, but she has a better singing voice than the average person. By far. That means she is talented in that area.

Lastly, we still don't know how good of a musician you are, so you could probably stand to scale the bravado down.

Actually finding good music today is easier then ever plus with home recording and youtube/social media you can make a name for yourself. Just think of the hip-hop music of the late 80's early 90's nobody remembers all the bad crap, same thing on hair band, does any remember or play any of their songs anymore?

It IS easier, but many aren't really doing it. My worry is that with radio and music television basically owned by the RIAA, they're shutting out all the other music that the public could be exposed to. If music doesn't get reasonably popular, it's not going to be remembered by many. There's a few historical exceptions(like The Velvet Underground), but usually if an act doesn't gain a large niche following, they're not going to be making any airwaves in the future.

well if you care that much, i studied the Piano, guitar, violin and i play the harmonica, bass guitar and the drums so if you like to come over i'll be happy to play and sing some for you :) and again i don't have to prove myself to you cause i don't really have the time for this kind of arguments, and you said "Lastly, we still don't know how good of a musician you are" so are you a musician in the first place to argue about that or to judge my skills or even talk about talents? if not please don't quote me again, No offence to you but i really don't have time for endless useless debates.

1. Justin Bieber is Canadian.

2. Rebecca Black is not a hugely promoted artist. She was some small time girl that paid to have a video made by an obscure company. It went viral because it was so bad. She's not really a bigtime recording artist.

Check out Graveyard and Black Mountain, you might like them depending on what kind of older rock you like.

I will also vouch for Black Mountain, one of the best bands out there right now.

"In The Future", against all odds, has been one of my favourite albums of the past decade.

[QUOTE="PannicAtack"] ... "That piece?" I said "Beethoven sonata." I never specified which one. >_>PannicAtack

I read it wrong. I thought your post actually said "Moonlight Sonata." My bad. I wouldn't say I have dyslexia, but I have been known to make very strange reading mistakes, and especially when I read numbers.

Mainstream music is always garbage.

When you hear a song that resembles noises a couple would make in their bedroom being sold like hotcakes, that's a warning sign right there.
