Well as to the first....would you consider your categorization to be abstract? If we are sticking with the subjective here for the moment...I can assure you I have reasons for what I like/dislike. Nothing abstract about it.:P[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"][QUOTE="GreySeal9"]
The notion of some music being "better" than other music certainly is abstract. That's what I was refering to.
But yeah, I'll agree that the actual art itself is not abstract.
GreySeal9
My categorization of what?
As for reasons, I know you have them, but I'm willing to bet that most of them are absract as most ideas are abstract and by extension, most reasons for liking things are abstract.

If I have reasons.....and I know the reasons...how can that be abstract?Because they probably are not quantifiable. I mean, some of your reasons might be more conrete, but I'm willing to bet that most of them have alot to do with preferences and things you like about your favorite bands' sound, which is abstract.
Abstract doesn't neccesarily mean not real.

Are you guys even talking about anything? i think it would be easier to just say "The Cure sucks", and insight a flame war.

I always consider the source of those statements and am generally pleased after noting the music taste of said individual that they don't appreciate The Cure.[QUOTE="GreySeal9"]

Melody, arrangement, skill, lyrics, atmosphere....Those are all quite vague.
I mean, those are reasons I like my favorite artists too, but they are rather abstract.

"Music taste of said individual?"
How could that not be refering to anyone? :?
Ah well you are new to OT. I used to get trolled in threads by individuals making that statement in lieu of making a point about the discussion. And generally I had already seen them post in music threads so I knew what they considered "music". And I did not.[QUOTE="GreySeal9"][QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"] I wasn't talking about anyone in particular currently....LJS9502_basic
