Well I listen to a lot of types of metal, but my favorite are symphonic, power, and gothic. Notable bands include Epica, Sonata Arctica, Sirenia, Tristania (yes, even with the new singer), Leaves' Eyes, Amorphis, Theatre of Tragedy (more the old stuff, but the new is still ok), Visions of Atlantis, Edenbridge, My Dying Bride, Autumn, The Gathering, Within Temptation, Elis, Xandria, and many more. Granted, I'm also partial to the heavier stuff, but symphonic metal will always be my favorite type of metal mainly because my first metal album was Leaves' Eyes "Vinland Sage" and it just blew me away (and it still does).
Other genres I listen to are pop (all types, just saw kesha and lmfao live it was great, but am currently partial to natalia kills), electronic, trip-hop, art rock, whatever tori amos is, pop punk, punk, rap, some country, classics along the lines of frank sinatra, rockabilly (thanks to imelda may), some theatre, and really anything that sounds good. I used to be one of those metal elitists (no offense if that's anyone here) that didn't accept any other type of music, but then I realized there's a lot of good music out there in every genre (well not crunkcore).
