This isn't new at all. Freud said all religion/divine belief is basic wish fulfillment. People need to fill that gap in their lives. Thus, when that gap is truly filled = more of the happy :)

My teacher said people who dont believe in god, dont live as long as the ones who do. I think its true. Atheist people are always busy proving their belief is right. And they have stress from other people not accepting their belief. So like my teacher said "you gunna die"

.. Tell your teacher that they are talking out of their ass.. The highest life expectancies in the world are places like Europe in which theism is much lower than the rest of the world.. Atheism and Theism have no discernable impact on life expectancy..

Wow that's a little narrow. I subscribe to a variety of philosphers. Shall we debate?

Okay, so you (unsurprisingly) believe in some stuff that isn't Freudian bullsh*t. And this is supposed to make it somehow more justifiable that you believe in and argue based on said Freudian bullsh*t?
lol.

And no, we won't. I'm going to bed.

About 50% of the country is atheist, I don't think I'm going to be losing any friends over it.

Also if you base you're beliefs on what over people think of you, then you should really re-evaluate your life.

kingkong0124

That you don't have a meaning dictated to you from heaven above doesn't mean that you can't give meaning to your life yourself. If anything, that's a brighter outlook than having the purpose of life laid out for you, unchangeably. To quote the great Dutch writer Nescio, "God's aim is aimlessness."

Since I'm an atheist, I might as well answer this: to keep improving myself as a person, and to always try and act with responsibility and dignity. In the hope than I and those around me may experience some happiness on this small dot in an endless universe.

[QUOTE="playmynutz"]Not that many people bashing Christianity as the most depressed... i feel like to be fully atheist you would have to be real selfish. working/thinking upon human instincts and refusing anything good/godly. i mean if there is love in an atheist life you aren't much of an atheist because love comes from the one perfect source that keeps us alive. i would be one hard-ass atheist if i wanted to be...would it be depressing? yeah because people wouldn't like me being so anti-godplaymynutz

That was a load of nonsense Why do you think being atheist will make you more selfish? Human are humans no matter what they believe and will always feel human emotions (unless they have some kind of rare personality disorder)

atheist need to try harder then. i would hold no remorse or mercy for anyone without believing in god

So you're essentially saying that atheists who do hold remorse and mercy are better people than you could ever hope to be.

LOL...here we go. Someone reading a few lines of text and thinking they can judge the mood of the person behind them and failing miserably while patting themselves that that are so astute in their own mind. Yes your condescension aside I know what a philosopher is. I took philosophy classes while studying at university. I never called you an expert....I said you used Freud as an expert. I have no illusions about your mental capacities in that area.

[QUOTE="ydnarrewop"][QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"] Is there a reason you repeat this post to various users? Narrow? Freud was rather narrow. You quoted him as an expert. Hence...you do subscribe to Freud. Don't try to weasel.LJS9502_basic
lol oh no here we go. Someone getting their back up. Ok first I never said he was an expert (period). Do you know what a philosopher is? Second, I deleted a post where I accidentally quoted the wrong poster... I think it was meant for you lol. Anyway, made a mistake and thus the extra post about the "narrow" comment. I do like Freud. I studied him, Carl Jung, Thomas Aquinas, Descartes, Plato, Aristotle, Nietzche... So no I don't subscibe to just Freud :)

Oh my tis on a Wednesday's Eve...you said, "Don't try to weasel." I wouldn't think of it :) Anyway I'll leave it at that. *pulls out pea shooter *pew pew pew :D lol

[QUOTE="toast_burner"] It's odd that I've never seen anyone preaching atheism, but seeing someone preaching about religion is rather common. I guess what you're saying is just a bunch of bull.

Nah, it only proves my point further. What they are stressing about is mainly inside their own thoughts. Worrying about if their belief is right and whatnot. They dont preach their belief in real life they mainly do it on the internet. Atheism is the most hated group of people. They will lose more friends by talking about their belief in atheism than talking about other religions. It all leads to more stress thus nonbelievers die younger.

Atheism is the most hated group of people? You're funny.

No one should be happy serving any thing/one. Working together is what we should look to do. I also don't need to believe in a God to a good person. If you do need a god to live a "good" life then you have many more problems then me.

[QUOTE="playmynutz"]Freud was on cocaine yeah lets take that penis envy guy seriously lol on topic: like i said before you atheist aren't atheist enough. if i was a hardcore atheist i would start a business and rise to the top recklessly, screwing people out of jobs, all that stuff. In a sense believing in God holds me back from being money successful. so if happiness is based on living condition...it might be more depressing in believing in God when you have no food on your plate but the atheist a-hole is a rich billionaireydnarrewop

Good Lord you do know the definition of theory? What is it: "The mark of an educated mind is the ability to entertain an idea without accepting it."

what? me at of all people knows about entertaining a thought. calling freud a cocaine sex weirdo was me trying to be funny. my theory is if i turn off my belief switch and go full blown atheist, imma be badass your not entertaining my theory :(
