It's not a surprise.

Atheists don't believe in an afterlife.

So they have nothing to look forward to other than being worm food.

Faith has helped me thru so many difficult times in my life.

Helps to brighten the day.

Even if you don't believe, you gotta admit that religion is the opiate of the masses, it makes this life liveable.

I see why, the archdiocese of our area just went bankrupt because they owned a bunch of firms that we're poorly handled, and one of them was a TV studio that showed pornography at night. Meanwhile you see the bishops and archbishop driving around in brand new cars and wearing huge "gangsta" gold crosses. Also they blame the moral and religious downfall of our society for their failure. Meh... This world is going to hell if you ask me

I actually found a sense of liberation upon becoming an atheist. I was raised in a Catholic household and I just couldn't handle the doctrine involved and the bullsh*t dogma that came with it. I was tired of living everyday in fear that if I did something usually not perceived to be a big deal, I would go to hell or God would punish me. And then there was the whole ordeal on whether I should just keep going with the flow or come out, stop going to church and risk upsetting my parents. I even got confirmed because I knew that if I didn't, I'd upset my parents.

Being Christian was one of the lead factors in why I had such a sheltered childhood, and because of it, I missed out on a lot of opportunities to develop the same social skills that would have came in handy today.

Forget heaven and hell

Just be a good person.

There is a God but not the angry volcano God of conventional religion.

A God who loves all his children, even when they make mistakes.

Be honorable in your dealings.

Help those weaker than yourself.

No matter what the truth is vis a vis heaven/hell.

Balance is the key. Not too much sin and gluttony. Not too much church.

Rule of thumb, just try to be a good person.

That's interesting. I know faith has played a big part for a few people I know who worked through hard times.

I'm sure it has for some (or a lot, not like I know lol) people, but the thing I hate is that because it works for one person, religious people will go around saying that it'll work for everyone (and sadly some people believe that), when it most likely won't (for EVERYONE at least).

Yes they have, they can look forward to making a better planet and a better society. No need to believe in an afterlife for that.

Or not spending their life expecting something that (probably) won't happen lol. Though it's not like all athiests won't do good things because they feel they won't get an ultimate reward for being good. I do good things because it feels good/right (but that's just me).

Yah, but I always felt sorry for people falling for false hope, and hate the people that endorse that false hope, like psychics and what not, especially when they make a business out of it. But I'll never go up to someone and straight out tell them that they are stupid for falling for something like this, or mention that the psychic (or w/e) is lieing, but I'd love to expose the endorsers of that false hope, because those people are truly evil and deserve to be punished. But I guess, like what you said, some hope is better than none lol.

Religious people believe in fairy tales, so why wouldn't they be happier? Ignorance is bliss, as they say. Just ignore how bad the world actually sucks, and pray it all away.

I understand that it doesn't work in every case. I was talking about a faith more akin to believing in yourself. That's the message that I got from various religions over the years.

I'd say basic human life should revolve around believing in yourself lol. I've never been around someone who's changed their life around just because they turned to religion, but I've heard about that scenario a few times. I can believe that it takes something as powerful as religion for someone to finally make their life better, but it seems that some people won't even try without something like that holding their hand through life, or expect that their life will be better with religion (which I think I've mentioned enough). I definitely do agree with you though.

I asked you first remember.

You didn't answer me.

And I was proclaiming that I didn't understand what you were talking about lol. So were you asking if this was true (looking up what fair dinkum means), and calling me a dild0?

I know what you're saying and there are some people like that. The ones I was talking about already were religious. I suppose it just became more obvious when things got bad.

Yeah? A drunk is happier than a sober person too. One is in his right state of mind, one is seeing pink elephants. Pink elephants being pretty easily interchangeable with the invisible hate mongering sky daddy of monotheism,

That is only comforting. You got an A on your test? Big deal you don't mean anything anyway. Someone broke into your house? You're insignificant so it doesn't matter. If we really were significant then those problems would be significant too! Atheists take the easy way out.
