What gets me is that g@y people are in an uproar about a christian company with christian values ( all the other stuff about him support anti gay organizations and hate groups is just something people made up to discredit the guy). G@y people and non religious people get mad when christians try to force their beliefs on them but g@ys want to force their lifestyle on christians and expect them to be okay with it. Really? That's really on sided if you ask me.

worlock77

No gay person is trying to force their lifestyle on anyone. Nobody's trying to force you to enter in a gay relationship or anything else. But certain Christians, including those fine folks who own Chick Fil A, are trying to force their values on others by funding groups who lobby to get legislation enacted that suppressed the rights of gay people. Is this really that difficult for you to understand?

I looked on the internet and found no concerte evidence to support that claim..... and if it were true more news stories would be up about it. AND I doubt there would have been HUGE crowds at Chick Fil A resturants yesterday for Chick Fil A apperication day. The way I see it is the CEO expressing his opinon and people in the homosexual community getting mad over his beliefs, solely because he doesn't agree with their beliefs.

But they dont trust what it says in its entirety.

Suggesting stoning people, referring to slavery as if its nothing, condemning ridiculous things is hardly being symbolic or just hyperbolic.

Perhaps the only part they follow is the ten commandments. Other than that the Orthodox church considers the OT to be outdated. Perhaps it varies from country to country, but in my country thats what we were taught in religious studies (and religion in my country does play an important role so that class cant be accused of distorting the orthodox faith).

But I know why most of you are against it. I'm just saying your reasons couldnt be any less compelling.

I said that they trust what it says is the truth. You are talking about punishments that occurred thousands of years ago. We dont deny that those things happened, but we acknowledged that it was for a different time.

The problem with the whole "you're a big if you're intolerant of other opinions" definition is that while it might sound good in theory, it completely breaks down when you apply it to the real world where everybody is intolerant of certain ideas.

GreySeal9

Eh.....I think being against hate for instance is a perfectly valid opinion. You're not a bigot for disliking those opinions. You're a bigot when you don't allow OTHERS to hold an opinion no matter how odious it is. You can hate what you want. I accept that......I don't have to agree with you over it however.

But being intolerant of an idea/=/not allowing others to hold it.

For instance, I can be totally intolerant of a Neo Nazi's ideas while still acknowledging that they have a right to hold that opinion.

You almost have the subtle difference between bigotry and disagreement.

No, just because different times were held differently doesnt mean that it is false, especially when understanding why certain things occured.

Nah. If he approved of certain brutal punishments back then he does now. A few centuries is just pocket change for a being like that. Floods are different. He did promise he wouldn't do a Noah's Ark sequel right?

You said that intolerance=bigotry and you also connected it to not allowing people to hold certain opinions. However, intolerance/=/not allowing people to hold certain opinions. That being said, intolerance, which everbody displays in some form, is most certainly not mere disagreement. What I am saying is that there is quite a range between bigotry and simple disagreement and intolerance can certainly fall within that range. If you try telling somebody that they must merely "disagree" with Hilter or they are a bigot, they'll look at you like you're crazy, which is why I said that your definition, while it might make some kind of sense in theory, breaks down in reality.

No. You are talking about punishments and cultural times. If that were the case then we shouldnt follow any of the Bibles rules. That isnt the point.

I'm talking about something within the Bible.

I'm not suggesting you should follow everything the Bible says. I'm simply saying you should stop acting as if the Bible is followed in it's entirety by most of it's believers.

Because it isnt.

Millions of Christians, for instance, have sex before marriage. Millions are in favour of homosexuality.

Agreed. It's Gay rights activists and liberals trying to force us to accept 100% of their beliefs, and I have a big problem with that. If we aren't all in 100% with them, and refuse to accept same sex marriage, they cry bigot. So, who are really the intolerant ones here? Another thing; gays say they're only concerned with laws enabling gay marriage, and don't care about public opinion differing from theirs. That's obviously a lie, or they wouldn't be protesting in states where gay marriage was legalized already and people are supporting Chick-Fil-A. Hypocrites.

This argument is SO FVCKING STUPID. How the fvck are people for gay marriage intolerant of anything? How in the world does gay marriage affect anyone but gay people? Good grief, there is NO SUCH THING as being intolerant to intolerance. Especially because opponents of gay marriage HAVE ZERO REASON TO BE AGAINST IT. :|

The second half of your post is also pretty stupid. You are aware that changing public opinion is sort of a requirement for laws to be passed, right? The Civil Rights movement would have taken much longer if people didn't take some initative to change public opinion.

Tolerance is a relative term, and I think your argument is equally as asinine. It's called a "belief", and get off your damn high horse and learn to accept that many people have different beliefs from yours. I don't give a flying Fvck if you hate it. Being anti-gay, and merely disagreeing with same sex marriage aren't the same. Stop trying to be the thought police.

There are "beliefs" and then there's "denying people basic rights that others have". Do you not see the difference? There is no high horse, everything I've posted is common sense. And yes, you're very much anti-gay. There IS NO DIFFERENCE between being a homophobe and having homophobic beliefs. Keep being in denial, whatever helps you sleep at night.

The Civil Rights movement would have taken much longer if people didn't take some initative to change public opinion.

l4dak47

Tolerance is a relative term, and I think your argument is equally as asinine. It's called a "belief", and get off your damn high horse and learn to accept that many people have different beliefs from yours. I don't give a flying Fvck if you hate it. Being anti-gay, and merely disagreeing with same sex marriage aren't the same. Stop trying to be the thought police.

You can hate gay people all you want, but the moment you don't allow them rights, is the moment that we all call you dumb bigots.

Marriage isnt a right is a privileged with certain requirements, just like a drivers license.

No, it is a right. Nobody is required to take certain tests, prove their competance at certain tasks, meet certain criteria, in order to get married.

Again, you're only reinforcing the point I was making. There are levels to tolerance. Tolerance is not "all in or nothing". Tolerance is being able to accept an opposing viewpoint, even if you disagree. Obviously, you haven't matured to that point yet. And don't dare label me a homophobe. You know nothing about me.

It isnt discrimination like racial. Gay people are allowed to get married. You can be gay and still be allowed to marry a person of the opposite sex. The comparisons to racial discrimination dont work.

Sure, they're allowed to get married...to a person of the opposite sex, completely contrary to their own desires and nature. That's a f*cking moronic stance and you're f*cking moronic for holding it.

You support intolerant views, thus you're intolerant. It's not that difficult to understand. I disagree with your views and I sure as hell don't accept or respect them. Why respect something that's detrimental to society and built on hate?

Either you don't know what gay means or you are rationalizing your bigotry to make yourself feel better.

"Desires" and nature argument doesnt work either. Just because I am born with a certain sexual desire doesnt mean the government should allow it and encourage it. People claim to be born with sexual attraction for kids, animals, brothers and sisters. Doesnt mean it should be legal.

Oh, cool, the gay marriage is comparable to paedophilia/beastiality/incest" argument. Very reasonable. Very intelligent.

And of course here comes the equating gay to pedophilia, beastiality, incest. Perhaps we shouldn't allow morons to get married. You'd be pretty out of luck then.
