[QUOTE="Genetic_Code"]Have you ever told a lie? Yes. Crushmaster

So what does that make you?
Have you ever stolen anything? No.Genetic_Code

OK, thank you.
Have you ever looked with lust? Yes.Genetic_Code

In the Bible, it says, "Ye have heard it said of men of old to not commit adultery. But I say unto you, if a man should look at a woman, to lust after her, he has committed adultery already with her in his heart."
So, according to God's Word, you have committed adultery.
Have you ever hated anyone? Yes.Genetic_Code

The Bible says, "Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him."
Have you ever used God's name in vain? Like as a swear word? Yes.Genetic_Code

The Bible says, Genetic, to honor God's name. If we use God's name in vain, we are committing blasphemy.

He should have added the question "Have you ever judged people too quickly? As in "judging a book by its cover"?

You ain't perfect sport, and ain't allowed to judge people you don't know. And even the ones you know... you can decide not to hang around them, but you should try not to judge them, at least not too quickly, because you don't know where they're coming from and why they make the choices they do.

9. In like manner also, thatwomen adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

A liar.

n the Bible, it says, "Ye have heard it said of men of old to not commit adultery. But I say unto you, if a man should look at a woman, to lust after her, he has committed adultery already with her in his heart."
So, according to God's Word, you have committed adultery.Crushmaster

I'm aware of this.

The Bible says, "Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him."Crushmaster

I'm aware of this as well.

The Bible says, Genetic, to honor God's name. If we use God's name in vain, we are committing blasphemy.Crushmaster

I'm aware of this as well, and I don't like it whenever someone says God out of anger. I am appalled as to how people will use their own belief, something of which they hold sacred, to instill vanity, not that I am to mean that all religious people are like this, but it's kind of hard to feel pleasant around a person like Reverend Wright who advocates using God to damn America, and one can make the argument that someone like Wright is not a Bible-believing Christian, which I can understand and these people should not be used to judge Christianity. Those are just my thoughts and you can take them for what they're worth. :)

No it's not inferiority. If there's a general of an army and he sees a recruit with excellent vision and good aim, what do you think he'll assign him as? A sniper, right? It's similar to what the Bible is saying here... Men and women are skilled in different areas.

Not if "the man is the head of the wife". That means that the wife is subordinate to the man's will, which is sexist.

Have you ever told a lie? Absolute not. Just kidding of course I have.
Have you ever stolen anything? No, I generally do not steal.
Have you ever looked with lust? Who hasn't? Of course.
Have you ever hated anyone? I generally hate stupid and/or weak people as a whole.
Have you ever used God's name in vain? Like as a swear word? Of course, god doesn't care.

Well, of course it has some morally good bits to counteract the insanity in the Old Testament. But to identify, say, the death penalty for homosexuality as bad, and love your neighbour as good, we need some external criterion. And once you have that means of telling whether parts of the Bible are good or bad, why bother with the Bible for moral guidance?

By human standards, yes.

By Bible standards, no.

battlefront23

Have either of those changed?

What kind of question is that?

Just answer it or don't. I find no point in your reply. Maybe I'm asking it to prove a point? ;)

Biblical standards are standards that no one can fulfill, thus making everyone a bad person.

By human standards, doing one venial thing isn't going to scar your life and permanently label you a "bad person". Human standards can change over time, people can change themselves for the better, and people can be forgiven. It just seems more optimistic and not so self-degrading.

So to answer your question directly:

Bible standards will not change under any circumstance.

Human standards can change over time and are variable depending on a number of factors.

Of course a topic about morality had to be hijacked by the OT into a discussion about whether or not the Bible is sexist.

Though this is probably a new record for the length of survival of a semi-religion oriented thread's on-topic-ness here in off-topic :)

Have you ever told a lie? YesGodLovesDead

So, since you've told a lie, what does that make you?
Have you ever stolen anything? YesGodLovesDead

So, since you've stolen some, what does that make you?
Have you ever looked with lust? Every dayGodLovesDead

The Bible says, "Ye have heard it said of men of old to not committ adultery. But I say unto you, that whosoever looks at a woman, to lust after her, has committed adultery already with her in his heart."
GLD, according to God's Word, you have committed adultery.
Have you ever hated anyone? YesGodLovesDead

The Bible says, "Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer,".
When we hate someone, GLD, according to God's Word, we have committed murder.
Have you ever used God's name in vain? All the time. Doesn't have a bearing on if you're a good person or not.GodLovesDead

The Bible says for us to honor God's name. When we use it like that, we are committing blasphemy.

So taking from that Bible quote and what you said...

The husband is always better at being the head of the family? :|

Certainly sounds like sexism to me...

battlefront23

And a mother is always a better caretaker of children than men. Is that sexist too? :| I'm not saying a man can't take care of his children, but a woman, on average, could do a better job than a man.

You guys are talking culture here. Of course culture has changed. That does not mean the message of loving your neighbor/enemies is wrong.

[QUOTE="Funky_Llama"]Bad example to choose: extending it, men have higher rank than women. Sexism.battlefront23
Where did I say the gender of the sniper? And I would assume you would know that the general was God.

 Nice try. This is my example now! :x

The equivalent is the man being the general and the woman a private or some other lower rank. The woman's role is not merely different; it is inferior.

For comparison: if I said that blacks should submit themselves to whites, would it be racist?

A liar.

n the Bible, it says, "Ye have heard it said of men of old to not commit adultery.

Thank you for your honesty, GC.:) Now for the conclusion...
According to God's standard, the Ten Commandments, you are a lying, adulterous, murdering, blasphemer at heart.
Based on these answers, what do you think your eternal destiny is going to be? Heaven or hell?

Of course a topic about morality had to be hijacked by the OT into a discussion about whether or not the Bible is sexist.

Though this is probably a new record for the length of survival of a semi-religion oriented thread's on-topic-ness here in off-topic :)

thepwninator

Indeed it probably is. :P Are you a Christian and/or just annoyed with the OT's bashing of the Bible?

I would say that's your observation. The "always" is a bit too much of an over-generalization. Lose it and you're fine.

I don't think the idea that women, in general, are better caretakers than men, is sexist. Even though I don't like the concept of females feeling obligated to being caretakers just because they're a female.

Yes:| Did I say that?

Tell that to the thousands of stay-home dads in America, I'm sure they'd love to know that, on AVERAGE they're worse then women at taking care of children.

Well, of course it has some morally good bits to counteract the insanity in the Old Testament. But to identify, say, the death penalty for homosexuality as bad, and love your neighbour as good, we need some external criterion. And once you have that means of telling whether parts of the Bible are good or bad, why bother with the Bible for moral guidance?Funky_Llama
That was the culture of the day. I'm Christian so I follow the teaching of Christ. I don't recall him arguing for the death penalty for homsexuality.

I have a question for you, TC.

Who is the only one that can judge?

Crushmaster

Indeed. I don't think we'll be answering to you when we get to the pearly gates :P

Aye. You won't.
But I don't exactly see how asking you a few simple questions is judging you.

beacose we all know where those questions lead to

As far as I'm aware, it's only adultery if you are married or have relations with someone who is. Otherwise, it's just sex. :?

Wow. According to Jesus....judge not lest ye be judged. And you have judged him here. God knows humans aren't perfect. He asks that we do our best to overcome the human condition.
