I'm a Muslim and every time I turn on a news channel, the journalists are just slamming the Muslims and most currently, Pakistan. I'm from Pakistan and when I came to the U.S, people would ask me if I used to live in deserts, encountered scorpians, had an actual house, see people weilding AK-47s on the street and then a lot of them would ask me where's Osama Bin Laden as if he was my uncle and I was hiding him in my basement and how my English was so good although I was a "FOB". Last but not least, if I ever saw a bomb up close.

Every time I see an article or news on Yahoo! which is even slightly related to Muslims, man! There's a sea of anti-muslim comments on the bottom of the page.

Just for the record, I used to have a really good life in my home country. I was a middle ****Pakistani, used to live in a very beautiful house, had a pet parrot, studied English and played video games since the age of 4, had 3 cars. There were no bombs in the corner of the street and no people walking down the streets with AK-47s. The weather used to be really nice and it was mostly rainy.

Yes there is terrorism and my people are trying their best to stop it. It's not an easy job because Pakistan is a developing country and the resources are limited. What really makes me sad is people here in the west never get to see the "better" side of Pakistan and that's mostly due to the media.

The real problem with this world is bad people in general. Bad people come from every religion, race and country. The world can be much better place if people put that basic fundamental into perspective. The U.S if full of beautiful and amazing people but at the same time some really ignorant people who make me feel like crap and I blame the media for it. When I ask them a couple of questions, they don't know crap about my country nor my religion. Just some ignorent comments based on news.

Before someone asks me what the hell am I doing in the U.S. I came here primarily for my education. I study in one of the best college in the U.S and after completing my education I'll go back and help my country.

What are your thoughts on this?

If anything they try to accomodate and protect islam as much as possible. So much so that many networks now are afraid to offend muslims.

I'm not aware of that but western media has a lot more impact due to the scale and population.

If you're living in another country and the country provides you with all the resources then it seems resonable.

The media presents stories that will pull in viewers. It IS a business. But at least it's not owned by the state as some countries media is owned. And it's always funny when a kid whines about the US but has no clue what the rest of the world is like.

They put whatever they think will make their stories sell on all forms of media. For example if toothbrushes started to be able to walk and hold guns you should expect a massive terror media campaign based on toothbrushes.

Our youth? Maybe.

Americans were anti-muslim to begin with. Being predominately Christian and experiencing 9/11, the media is only pandering to a sentiment already shared by most.

The media does make Muslims look like barbarians. The media only shows the 1% crazy and rarely show the other 99%. Being a Muslims I would be a millionaire if I could get a dollar for all the untrue things I've heard about Islam on the news and things people have said to me personally. Sadly most people seemed to refuse to accept that most Muslims are like everyone else.

You're basing your views mostly off of comments on the internet.

The American media does not brainwash people against Muslims. However, they only really report the negatives in the world. So when Muslims come up, it's almost always about the extremists and terrorists. This does give a biased view. Most Americans know that the media only really reports the bad in the world, but there are enough out there who don't understand the difference between news reporting and the real world.

If you just listen to the news 24/7, almost every major institution, group of people, or organization is evil in some way. That's just how American news media is. It brings in the viewers.

People don't care if some organization helped vaccinate 10,000 Africans for free, they'll only care about the 3 cases where the vaccination killed the person due to an allergic reaction. The media will jump all over that and make a huge, usually very bias, case out of it and it usually harms those involved.

Happens equally to all people, groups, and organizations.

The image of Muslims has definitely been distorted through the media. And I sympathize. However, just so you know, the corollary of my observation is not that Islam itself is peaceful.

Dude, most Americans do not realize how the media exaggerates. Otherwise fox news wouldn't be still on the air. Too many Americans are heavily influenced by the media. The US media tends to give one sided stories to a lot of issues that are going on in the world. Including Muslims. Most Americans think the middle east is all desert and camels. When moved to Qatar I had family members ask me were there cars over there cars over there. They even asked me was I was going to have to wear a burqa. Majority of Arab women don't even wear it. Many of them don't even wear a head covering. And most people here drive cars that are no older than 5 years old. Now my family aren't uneducated people. They are teachers, lawyers and doctors. But the media has made them think all these outlandish things.

Since 9/11, a wee bit, yeah. Though, it's more the America's cultural reaction than media influence.

Maybe the media influences an already existing prejudice to come out to the open without worrying about the scrutiny that would usually follow being biased for or against race/religion/politics etc.

Yes, cause it was Islam that told the western leaders to invade their countries, stage coups against their democratic elected leaders, sanction them to the point where 500,000 children dies. Mhm.

I find the whole flag thing in America very odd. I'm from the UK and I see way more Korean flags then any other flag a day. Seeing a English flag or the Union Jack or hearing the national anthem is rather uncommon.

you wouldn't have called that brainwashing if you'd seen what iranian media was doing to it's ppl.in fact even if it's indeed a form a brainwashing i won't blame the US for it's pretty much a counter attack.i'm not saying it's ok but i don't blame them either.

i watched a documentary last night in which 5 different muslims from different sects and areas of the world were asked whether or not it was wrong to kill the infidels.

not one would either answer at all or say it was wrong.

make of that what you will.

don't feel bad though muslims, the christians are just as big of asses as evidenced by the silly shyt they constantly pull as you are.

I believe for citizenship you say the oath of allegiance or alliance or something like that. It's different than the pledge we say in school. I'm just curious are you saying that you should not have to pledge allegiance to the USA when you are in fact becoming a usa citizen?

No, US media all about rating.

They air what will get the highest ratings to cost ratio.

History & stuies have shown war, disasters, and general tragic mass deaths get higher ratings

The content they air tries to highlight and focus on that.

Unfortunately for Muslims they are they are the hot topic of the past decade or so.

Sometimes. Lets say Fox news for instance is always trying to hate on muslims in anyway possible. Whether or not that is because of an economic or ideological motivation is something i wont comment on. But to be honest, CNN and MSNBC are not that bad when it comes to their portrayl of muslims or any other culture. They've shown a lot of doucmentaries about muslims being normal people and whatnot (which they are). I think the bad rep that muslims have in the west is mostly because islam is always associated with terrorism. Maybe part of that is because stories about Islamic terrorists attract more viewers (you barely hear about right wing extremists in the US) and obviously part of that is because mosrt terrorist attacks you hear are from muslims. But the same connection to religion is barley made when a right wing extremist does the same, as in Norway

It goes both ways, FOX and conservative media try to tell you that your friendly neighborhood Muslim at the cornerstore is out to get you. While the liberal media makes the actual terrorist muslims out to be "misunderstood" people fighting for a just cause. Both are untrue generalizations. I know many nice muslims here in the US, and my brother in the army has seen how gracious muslim civilians overseas can be, but also how some can be hostile, as well as obviously seeing how bad muslim terrorists are.

Its like all religions.

Example:

Ehh idk. I wouldn't say brainwashing, but I do think there is a certain focus to terror attacks committed by Islamic extremeists above other acts of terror. And a lot of times I think the media tries not to jump to conclusions, even when it's the obvious (and correct) answer (see: Fort Hood shooting, Times Square bombing).

[QUOTE="m25105"][QUOTE="-DirtySanchez-"]no, I'm pretty sure Islam in and of itself does a good enough job of making people feel the way they do about Muslims/Islam/Indians/middle east-DirtySanchez-
Yes, cause it was Islam that told the western leaders to invade their countries, stage coups against their democratic elected leaders, sanction them to the point where 500,000 children dies. Mhm.

oh shut the f*ck up, i never wanna hear people defend a group that thinks its ok to clip the sexual organ's of their females

Translation = It's ok for us to bomb them and exploit them and use information involving one country and apply it to another.
