[QUOTE="testfactor888"]

i noticed waiter and delivery driver wasn't on your list, but perhaps with the vast job experience you've forgotten them. so how exactly would you suggest a waiter or delivery driver get a better job? just stand out on a street corner waiting? maybe applying for that CEO position thats been in the paper?

[QUOTE="testfactor888"][QUOTE="Jandurin"][QUOTE="testfactor888"]I have had over 20 jobs. Working at 3 different delis (Schlotskys, Atlanta Bread Company, Panera Bread). Also I have worked at McDonalds, Del Taco, & Burger King. I also have worked as a manager at a CVS Pharmacy and a dishwasher at a casino restaurant. I have also worked at movie theaters and video rental stores. I have also worked at grocery stores and many other random jobs such as one job where I was digging holes for the For Sale signs in front of houses. I have worked and worked many of the jobs people feel entitled to receive tips at. I still don't think tips should just be handed out to people for doing shoddy worktestfactor888

I bet you didn't get tipped well :3

it really depended on my mood of the day. Sometimes I would be in a great mood and give amazing service and get tipped well and other days I would not do a very good job and not make very good tips. Its the nature of a tipping job. The best day I ever had at a job was when I worked as a courtesy clerk around 9 years ago at a Smiths grocery store (owned by Kroger). It was the day before Thanksgiving and I stood outside and everybody who came out I grabbed their cart and helped them to their car. I ended up making around 100 dollars in 3 hours in tips for doing that. Was kinda conning people though as they diden't ask for help but I did need alcohol money

so you don't have an issue conning people out of money for walking their groceries to their car but you can't tip someone who brings you food?

Well I have always been kind of a bad person in that regard though you can't really go into criminal histories on here otherwise I would go into more detail. Yeah I don't mind conning people out of money but at the same time I don't want to tip people for service that isn't good. I never said I won't tip I just said I don't want to tip if the service wasn't good

[QUOTE="J-WOW"] Well, yes I do live in the US, BUT how do you expexte me to tip them anyways when Im poor and I dont have a job, yet they do? Atleast I bought something from them and they are getting my $$$ anyways, I wish I had a job :(Jandurin
if you have enough money to afford their food, how do you not have an extra couple bucks also? Perhaps you should go to the grocery store.

I take it youv'e never seen the office O_o

racer8dan

I have not seen it in many years. Stopped season 3 I think :> I guess it's a line from that? :P

+1. For the record, I am a good tipper.

If I recall correct, delivery men made about 5 when the minimum wage was 5.75 at papa johns, but at dominoes they actually made minimum wage? so it depends ALL waiters make under minimum wage unless they have multiple positions AFAIK. I made 4.50 an hour as a lunchtime waiter because they expected less tips during that time.Jandurin

I believe you but there are types of restaurants where I'm not sure if the employees are making less than minimum. For example, buffets where you serve yourself and the only function of the waiters is to bring you drinks.

yeah, that's different. i worked at fuddruckers which was a similar sort of deal and made over minimum wage and bussed tables/was a cashier and didn't get tipped much but i didn't expect to get tipped either, cause i was making a couple bucks over minimum wage NOT TO MENTION free video games (i always got game tokens for the machines from the managers) and half priced burgers yum

Always for waiters, depends on the deliveryman. If they got a company truck, like UPS and whatnot, no tip. If the guy is using his own vehicle, like for most food delivery, then tip.

Right. I don't tip UPS workers, but I will tip the local delivery boy who drives as fast as he can to my house in his Ford Focus.

Same LOL...

I keep telling myself "I need to do this more often..." because I start looking like a hippy, but for some reason it's just too much effort to go and get it cut.

Here we go, I'm not sure the terms and conditions are but...

I don't like tipping, most delivery people don't even expect tips here in England.

Never seen the point in tipping; if you want more money then get a better job.

I tend to tip 20%, but I don't go to many places that I have to tip so its all good... Also people are expected to be tipped can be payed less then minimum wage so yes they do depend on your tips a lot of the time...

I've worked as a delivery person, I didn't get less than minimum wage and I also made tips. It was pretty damn good money for requiring no education whatsoever.

I've also worked as a grocery store clerk, made about the same per hour and recieved no tips.

There are so many examples like this that show how are tipping culture is completely irrational and based on old traditions rather than merit.

I was refering to waiters, you know the group of people who make less than minimum wage.

If i had never worked in a restaurant, my tipping habits would be terrible. But since i know what it's like getting 1/3 of minimum wage, i always try to tip between 15% and 20%. And to whoever said they leave a penny for a waiter, shame on you. Your picture has been circulated around the state and people know to consistently give you average to below average service.

Meh Christmas is just another day to me so if I we're to get a package on those days I would treat it like any other day. I don't order stuff around that time of year though as typically they are all far to bogged down to expect it in a timely manner. In short order I don't think just because someone is delivering a package on Christmas Eve they automatically deserve a tip for it.

I tip waiters because most of them do a pretty good job. I don't tip most other people except the rent-a-car shuttle driver at the airport, unless they drop me off in some inconvenient place.

I never tip, and the only reason I would ever tip is if I got exceptional service. Even then it would likely be less than $5.

I work in a supermarket and give good service. Do I get a tip? No. Why, therefore, should I tip a waiter for giving good service? I already pay their wages through my food price, no way I'm giving anything extra.

Dark__Link

I hope you enjoy the dirty looks you get, and the various bodily fluids (and maybe solids) in your food. You certainly deserve them.

Un, when they are earning $15-$20 an hour (the same amount I do) then no. They do their job, they don't deserve anything 'extra' for just doing their job.

you in fact do not pay their wages through your food prices. They make less than minimum wage. If you were to pay their wages with the food, the food would cost about 15% more than it does now.

Depends where you live. Seeing as only about 20% of people tip here (in Australia), it's seen as an extra, not mandatory. They already earn the minimum wage ($15 an hour), and these is no legal way they can work for less (unless they are under 20, and even if they are, deal with the lower wage, every other industry has to)

As has been said before we are discussing situations in which they are not payed adequately and depend on tips which is common in the US.

I always tip well.

I remember at one restaurant my daughter didn't like the multi-grain bread that came with her meal (some sort of fancy grilled cheese platter). It was the only type of bread they served. When the waitress asked my daughter why she wasn't eating her sandwich, my daughter told her. We told the waitress it wasn't a big deal and that there was plenty of other food on her plate that was to her liking, and would fill her up. Next thing, we see the waitress exit the restaurant and cross the street to a bakery. Shortly after, she comes back to our table with a new sandwich for my daughter (grilled cheese on white bread). Mega-tip for her.

fvjonj

That's actually illegal to buy food from other businesses who's jobs isn't to be food proveyers :P

Although I must say, that is a noble act indeed and I would certainly tip her well in that situation.

No. I heard it's customary in the US, but not in my country. I don't see the point, they get paid by their manager to bring you something...ok. Its not like I tip bus drivers for bringing me somewhere.

garathe_den
In the US, it's legal for their employers to pay them under minimum wage because tips are expected. So the tips become part of their wage.

That's actually illegal to buy food from other businesses who's jobs isn't to be food proveyers :P

Although I must say, that is a noble act indeed and I would certainly tip her well in that situation.

It is? because I know of multiple bakeries that sell bread at their store and to restaurants.

Thats what I was wondering, I used to work in a italian resturant and we had our own fresh baked rolls we served but sometimes by the end of the night we might run out and have to run to nearest store and by some of theirs.

Yeah I always tip. If you're too cheap to tip, then don't go out to eat.
