We need to redefine the term Emo. All of a sudden it's now defining people that commit suicide for no reason and wear clothing that's weirder than gothic clothing. Those two actions need completely different terms. Emo is what we apply to people who are emotional (people who have no problems, so they make up their own).

Hannah was not emo, she was suicidal.

I don't think he is saying that, but she clearly was emo. I know some people don't like that term because a musical genre cant kill itself or some nonsense like that, but you ( I dont mean you) have to deal with the fact that many people use emo to refer to a subculture or clothing style like goth or punk.

Its the reasons she died that make her death less tragic, she was following a group of peoples lifestyle that involved self harm and other such things. Her killing herself because she wasnt allowed to go to her friends house or because she was influenced by others to do so to me makes her death more pointless and less sad. I am not saying that all supposed emos are self harmers, but there are many that do that.

I never said it had anything to do with the fact that she called herself "emo". It's the fact that she killed herself partly because of the fact that she became "emo" and was frustrated over not being able to stay at a friend's place. Really, I don't care if someone chooses to conform to such an ambiguous label, but her reasoning behind killing herself is stupid. That is what I was getting at.

She just killed herself because she felt the need to conform to a vague and undefined social label and was distraught over not being able to go to a friends house. Somehow I get the feeling that the sympathizers in this thread aren't even reading the damn article.

I have no idea, nor does it matter. This is all we know, and this is what we are basing our opinions off of. Maybe those quotations from the parents regarding what she did and why she did it were forged, maybe they weren't. Maybe her screen name on Bebo was actually Living Disaster, maybe it wasn't. Either way, this is what we know based off of that source. If there's another one that tells the story differently, then I'd like to see it. As far as we are concerned, this is the only story there is on it, so this is the only thing we can have an opinion on.

If you can't laugh at death, then you are a sad person. Death is a part of life and everyone is going to face it. Why does one person's death, tragic or not, have to be catered by sympathy?
