I never really bought the accusation that Muhammad was a pedophile or the like. It was very common during his days, he wasnt doing anything out of the ordinary. Of course, what he did is horrible nowadays, but the vileness of a person has to be judged relative to their standards, not ours.

What about the invasion and destruction of Bagdad?

I never personally heard any book praising the mongols for other than their war tactics.

please check out this book, i read it in high school , a real eyeopener.

and yes the mongols were brutal, but they were remarkably less so then the rest of the world.

for example torture was extremely taboo in their religion, as was most forms of bloodshed. which is why they relied on the bow , as to see or touch blood in mongol culture was considered highly disgusting.

ps the burning of Baghdad wasn't exactly uncalled for, it was a time of war and the Islamic kings did provoke the mongols in the first place,

the mongols preferred to keep conquered cities profitable and intact, they rarely burned them.

pps I'm American, just with a deep interest in history.

But in terms of war tactics it was astonishing, even the Arabs with their Arabian horses have never done it.
