Pretty sure if there is a real religion, it wasn't founded by a pedophile rapist.

Hajj%201431%20-%2093%20Makkah%20Haram%20

so all these terrorists follow the teachings of a "pedohile rapist"?

Minus the word "terrorist" yes, they are following an illiterate pedophile who killed hundreds in the name of his religion.

F*cked a child? That religion is sick, how can anybody follow that religion knowing the founder was a sicko?

 The only Muslim I can recall that tolerated and encouraged inter-faith discussion was Akbar the Great. Unfortunately his grandson didn't share those aspirations.

I never really bought the accusation that Muhammad was a pedophile or the like. It was very common during his days, he wasnt doing anything out of the ordinary. Of course, what he did is horrible nowadays, but the vileness of a person has to be judged relative to their standards, not ours.

As for him being the pinnacle of the moral man.....get real.

the mongols had a very loose religion which they never imposed on anyone, and allowed all conquered states to retain their religions.

in fact the mongols are considered one of the the most religiously tolerant group in history. oh and this golden age of Islamic learning was also brought about by mongol rule, in fact the Renaissance was caused by the mongols too.

i could list forever the contributions of the mongols, they are a people to be respected.

:|

What about the invasion and destruction of Bagdad?

I never personally heard any book praising the mongols for other than their war tactics.

please check out this book, i read it in high school , a real eyeopener.

and yes the mongols were brutal, but they were remarkably less so then the rest of the world.

for example torture was extremely taboo in their religion, as was most forms of bloodshed. which is why they relied on the bow , as to see or touch blood in mongol culture was considered highly disgusting.

Wait what?

I could have sworn I read somewhere than Mongols drink their own horse blood if they had no water.

[QUOTE="frannkzappa"]

[QUOTE="GrayF0X786"] speaking of Mongols what happened to the Muslims after the Mongols ripped right through the muslim world, did islam change to the religion of Mogolism?

BossPerson

the mongols had a very loose religion which they never imposed on anyone, and allowed all conquered states to retain their religions.

in fact the mongols are considered one of the the most religiously tolerant group in history. oh and this golden age of Islamic learning was also brought about by mongol rule, in fact the Renaissance was caused by the mongols too.

i could list forever the contributions of the mongols, they are a people to be respected.

Yea you mean the same guys who destroyed the library of Baghdad turning the tigris black with ink after it was soaked red with blood? The list of muslim polymaths is high much before the Mongol invasion of baghdad in the 1200s Really, if you are mongolian (I have to assume you are) you are as fascist as GrayFox.

i never said the mongols weren't brutal in their conquest, its what happened after that made them amazing.

ps the burning of Baghdad wasn't exactly uncalled for, it was a time of war and the Islamic kings did provoke the mongols in the first place,

the mongols preferred to keep conquered cities profitable and intact, they rarely burned them.

pps I'm American, just with a deep interest in history.

also if want to read up on this there's this great book, pretty short too.

I'm also not really a big fan of that but when you're calling a guy the last prophet of god and that he's some kind of moral pillar I think it's not an entirely unwarranted fact. As for saying it's the right religion because people worship it well...I think we all know how silly that claim is.

I never took you for an apologist. Why can we not judge the actions of ancient figures by the standards of today? Especially if we are being compelled to hold them as a figure of reverence and leader of a spiritual tradition that is said to be "morally timeless" and "completely relevant" to modern people. Muhammad married a six year old girl and f*cked her at nine before she got her period. Such behavior today is determined to be of the lowest rung on the moral ladder. The fact he founded a religion in which more than two BILLION people follow WITHOUT QUESTION is disconcerting in the greatest degree. At least Jesus kept his pecker to himself and propagated a teaching of universal love and understanding. With Muhammad, we have a ruthless warlord out to conquer and oppress.

I'm not an apologist, just a realist. Morality is relative. Muhammad was acting according to the standards of his time. Did I say he was a moral authority? Did I say he was to be revered?

its not like Islam prevents practise of other religions, yes today our leaders are all a bunch of fvck heads, but if you look at the early examples, when Muslims took over christian countries, they would allow them to carry on their pagan sunday services while Muslims had their friday services in the same church.

Listen. I am not referring to any religion in particular. However, considering the premise of this thread, I can understand why you misinterpreted my previous post.

Im sure I read it somewhere back in school, but im not a history major nor was I intrested much in Mongols very much.

But in terms of war tactics it was astonishing, even the Arabs with their Arabian horses have never done it.

Good. At least something positive might come out of your "conversion".

Hmm... could have sworn the latest estimates were pegged at over 2 billion. My mistake.
Did I say he was a moral authority? Did I say he was to be revered? BossPerson
Nope. Didn't say you did. Just using what most Muslims claim as emphasis for my point.

Well, most muslims try to hide the fact of his marraige because its embarrassing to them. Anyways, as atheists there is enough to debunk and attack about Islam other than the marraige practices of ancient arabia.

There's effectively no chance that a 'universally' (among (most) Muslims) recognized caliphate will ever be revived, so I'm not even sure why this is an issue. You only need to look at Islamic history and it seems (to me) obvious that it won't happen.

[QUOTE="frannkzappa"]

i doubt that, but considering the mongol/horse relationship it may have happened during some of the latter marches.

TehFuneral

Im sure I read it somewhere back in school, but im not a history major nor was I intrested much in Mongols very much.

But in terms of war tactics it was astonishing, even the Arabs with their Arabian horses have never done it.

an army of 100% horse archers is kinda hard to match.

Throwing away such an effective tool against Islam is unwise.

[QUOTE="BranKetra"]I can not support a nation centered upon a religion or one that seeks to outlaw spiritual practice. People need the right to choose what they do with their private lives. BranKetra

its not like Islam prevents practise of other religions, yes today our leaders are all a bunch of fvck heads, but if you look at the early examples, when Muslims took over christian countries, they would allow them to carry on their pagan sunday services while Muslims had their friday services in the same church.

Listen. I am not referring to any religion in particular. However, considering the premise of this thread, I can understand why you misinterpreted my previous post.

sorry, trying to follow all the posts while playing battlefield at the same time....

Heaven lieth at the feet of mothers

Every good act is charity

Do you love your creator? Love your fellow-beings first

One hour's meditation on the work of the Creator is better than seventy years of prayer

The acquisition of knowledge is a duty incumbent on every Muslim, male and female

A Muslim who mixeth with people and beareth inconveniences, is better than one who doth not mix with them and beareth no inconveniences

Feed the hungry and visit the sick, and free the captive, if he be unjustly confined. Assist any person oppressed, whether Muslim or non-Muslim

He is not strong and powerful who throweth people down but he is strong who witholdeth himself from anger

An adultress passed by a dog at a well and the dog was holding out his tongue from thirst, which was near killing him, and the woman drew off her boot, and tied it to the end of her garment, and drew water for the dog, and gave him to drink and she was forgiven for that act

Almsgiving is duty unto you. Alms should be taken from the rich and returned to the poor

To listen to the words of the learned, and to instil into others the lessons of science, is better than religious exercises

What an evil guy.

It's not an attack on Islam, more of an attack of the source of it. It's a fair point to say "should we be listening to a bunch of people who thought it was okay to have sex with children?," but that is not what I see most atheists do.
