[QUOTE="quiglythegreat"][QUOTE="jsmoke03"]To punish a person is to not condemn their actions, but to condemn the person for those actions. The disassociation is never made in the punishment process. How could it be?its easy really. my parents punished me when i was younger for doing the wrong things even if they loved me. consequences are there for you to experience or to avoid. if you knowingly do bad things, you arent being punished as much as you chose it. god just tells you to not do this, its up to you to follow him, but there are consequences.
btw god is an all loving god, but he is also a god of justice. if he wasnt a god of justice, then no one would know what a loving god would be. but justice and love can co exist when punishing people.
ive always wondered why people are scared of the ultimate consequence. your choices are your own.
jsmoke03
well god did say dont do that. you don't accidentally sin. what god does is set the rules, if you break it, you should know your consequence. that is justice, and as much as everyone would want an all loving god that throws justice out the window, it just isnt right. dwell on the love if it makes people feel better. im more for owning up to my actions. if i commit sin then i know what i must do until i have time to do it because it was written that that is the way it is.
for people who cant accept that, its fine, but it doesnt mean that it doesnt make sense. people condemn other people for lesser things. isnt the fact that we do have time to try and make up for our mistakes, which we knew full well what the consequences are, enough love for all of us?
Why couldn't a loving god be a god of justice too? Look at the role of parents. They have to love and punish at the same time - and their children rarely end up dead.
If you keep committing sin, then repenting, you won't have learned anything from your sins. If absolution is automatic then sinning then repenting means you can live an unjust life and still get to heaven.
The bible tells us that righteous people that do not believe in god will not get into heaven. That does not make any sense at all to me.

Scientific theories based on facts? Theory and Fact do not belong in the same sentence. Neither the big bang nor evolution disproves God's existence in any way.
Would you please do me the favour of looking up "theory".
Its far better to rely on positive proof, rather than negative proof, otherwise we're back to the old invisible tea-pot spinning round the sun.
Evolution and the big bang hardly support a belief in god, but must be accomodated in christianity, at the expense of the scripture.
Like it has been said in earlier posts. God was created to explain the unkown. All these theorys about him being beyond space and time, they are just far fetched excuses. The greeks believed in many gods? Were they wrong? How do so many people follow religions that arn't the same as Christianity?
By the same Science could Prove God doesn't exist. There were already to many people who could never be convinced as it would make it all seem so meaningless. The church, the pope, everything. That why people still believe. In the bottom of their hearts, they desperatly want to find proof though, some sort of physical thing so that they KNOW he is there. I'm sorry, you won't find it. This post will not change anything, it is just my view. Continue believing, if it makes you a better person. But from what I can see of history. Religion was one of the greatest sources of conflict. Why? People had different beliefs. Same goes today. I think, unless there is a proven, universally accepted, peaceful religion I will remain non-religious.
[QUOTE="jalexbrown"]What made God, indeed. That's an excellent question. I've already read lots of answers being thrown around, and at the risk of causing major controversy, let me say that I think most theories I've heard thus far are crap. The idea of infinity? No such thing. Consider this...if we are using infinity as a measurement of time, then we must understand that time didn't come into existance until man came into existance. TIME IS NOT A THING; TIME IS A CONCEPT. Therefore, there is no such thing as infinite time, because we can pinpoint the start of time to the start of human life (it should also be noted that humans are the only beings on Earth at least that actually measures time). Infinity is a terrible concept; it creates a load of problems with science as we know it. Secondly, this question does make loads of sense. Everything had a singular point where it came to be, but we hit a paradox: if all things are created, where's the singular point where the first creation was created? And, of course, what created the first creator? What people most need to understand is the difference between a thing and a concept. Concepts are things people use to grasp ideas we cannot grasp without these concepts. Things are just that...things. Anything that is, in fact, a "thing" has to have some physical property.
Paper_Knife
except the bible said that we cant even comprehend before god or anything of that caliber. so your post is crap.
Using the bible to prove in God...there's a bold Christian move if I've ever seen one. That's what I love about Christians. They cannot make an honest effort to prove their beliefs without the use of the bible. First off, we need to remember that the bible was written by man, and man is prone to errors. So to assume the bible is flawless is ignorant. To top that, we also must remember just how many languages the bible had to go through before it became English. For example, the number of the beast isn't really 666...it's 616 (before you even call it, here's a link: http://www.religionnewsblog.com/11134/beasts-real-mark-devalued-to-616). So we can naturally assume the bible is also most likely plagued with translation errors (which can also be seen just by looking at the different versions of the bible). What American Christians call the bible is so far from "the word of God" (even assuming the bible was the word of God to begin with) that you can't even hold it as a valid scripture. If you really want to read the word of God (by your standards, at least) learn Greek and Latin and then go find yourself the original scripture.

A scientific theory is a fact. Though, that last part of your post is absolutely correct, the issue is the definition of god.Other than that it is God's will, is there any reason for acts that cause no one suffering to be considered sins?point taken. you say that your morality is based on suffering and people suffering. but in christian religions, doesnt jesus suffer for the sins of man? catholic stance on this is that jesus continues to suffer as long as man sins.
well im sure some people like you learn or feel remorse for the sins that you committ to other people, but not all sin in gods eyes are when other people get hurt. things like lust and glutony arent necessarily the type of sin that would hurt anyone but those things are considered a sin based on other things that arent necessarily in the form of suffering.
also most people dont feel bad for the sin they do. ive met a lot of people in my day and ive done things that hurt other people that i had no remorse for. ive changed since then but a lot people dont learn as easily as others.
well im going to put this one to rest for the night. either way to each his own...i respect your opinions and i guess well end it with a friendly disagreement of opinion

Scientific theories based on facts is a paradox statement. Theories are educated guesses that lacks factual evidence. Critiqing and atheist mind about the scientific method, because you haven't experienced "The big bang" with your own senses disproves that it ever took place. It's illogical. Science and the whole theory of evolution is not a fact and using the same logic that science tries to use to disprove God, it can be used to disprove all scientific theories to this point.
Also. Science hasn't proven that the Big Bang ever took place because of deduction. To deduct any kinds of evidense we would have to replicate events in the same way that we theorize the original event took place. It's an impossibility.

It's definitly not as facile as your making it. To automatically render a designer of all things fiction is the same essense of saying that no one created my computer or that no one created my t-shirt. When in actuality, someone did create it. I don't know how but they did.
Fiction can only apply to things that we've created and disprove as being real. No one has proven God as fictional.

2.The bible tells us that righteous people that do not believe in god will not get into heaven. That does not make any sense at all to me.
1. That's kind of the point. If a person does something wrong he can still be forgiven if he asks for it. But asking for forgiveness is not a "trump card". God looks at the heart of the person, not the lips. Theres a difference between knowingly doing something wrong and then asking forgiveness when you aren't actually sorry, and actually feeling the shame of doing the wrongful deed and truelly wanting to be forgiven. The 2nd means you will go about and try not to do that again.
2. Not true because all men have sineed and will sin. There are no riteous people because there is no one who can go through life without doing something wrong.

Yes time exists. Its the duration between two periods. Without time, whats stopping things from happening all at once? And If God is an eternal creator, he created time, and why would an eternal creator be at the whim of what they created? God shouldn't have any restrictions on what he/she/it can do.
