[QUOTE="gamedude2020"]I can't believe people are actualy saying USA:roll:
What do American kids get taught at school? First history lesson - planet earth rotates around North America - Americans are a special race of humans - American guns never run out of ammo - American action heros never die, even though they get shot 600 times.
If you look at the history of planet earth - the USA is not even worth two milli-seconds.
The greatest nation on earth was either the British Empire and its commonwealth or the Roman empire.

Do they teach the rest of the world to be insecure? Why do you care if some people say the US? Some people say Rome, England, Mongolia, etc. Each choice has valid points.
But at the same time, he does have a point, my country has achieved a lot, but at the same time, the general populace is shrouded in ignorance and fanatical patriotism. And it doesn't really help that we wiped out an entire race of people.America has such a hold on the world right now that its tough to ignore it as the best of all time. Although you could argue with classics like Alexander the Great's Empire, or China during the Middle Ages and before.TheSystemLord1
erm what? america's "hold" is nothing compared to what past empires had.
For example the British empire... ruled not in-direct influence or anything like that but invaded, conquered, and ruled over 1/4 of the entire globe.
america's "hold" is nothing compared to what past empires had. muppet1010Yeah, if anything, the Middle East has a hold on us.

They weren't, but they were radically democratic for the time period.
Canada is the only place that fits that description.metallica_fan42
Can't argue with that. It has all the needed ingredients - beer and hockey. Canada wins. Thread over.

comeon...the british empire? And as for "earth rotating around N America" I think the British were far more arrogent during their imperial days than any other nation then, now, or in the past.
and once again some poor naive guy thinks america is gun crazy...
but I agree it would be a great place and time to live. I love England, especially Oxford. Eagle and Child FTW!
Texas, of course. I mean, it only lasted like 9 years as a country before joining the US, but certainly would have conquered everyone on it's 10th anniversary. Oh, what could have been...wallymartin
I am actually studying Texas for a class now (actually, the American west) and trust me...you would not want to live in Texas back then.

If Texas were ruling the world, we'd have been on the moon by 1900. :P
But yeah, you're right. The house was falling apart, it was better just to move in with the neighbors. You know, the ones we still got along with.

Though only males who had served the compulsory service could vote, it was in many ways a direct democracy. Doesn't this add to the "democratic value" ?
PS: I'm not saying they were more democratic than the US.

It definitely adds to the "democratic value," just not enough to overcome the fact that only 1/10 of the population could vote.

Those are in the North. But I like northern cali - sacramento is really nice -> it has no bad parts unlike some other US cities.
Wow how surprising, all the Americans think their country is the greatest...
It's definitely a great country in many ways, it just doesn't hold a candle to the many empires we've had over the years. Like the Roman Empire. Revolutionary army after the Marius reforms, aqueducts and public baths, they controlled the world for over a thousand years, some of the greatest people in history were born within its borders and it influenced culture more than anyone. There are a handful of empires greater than America so don't feed us your overly patriotic bull****, America isn't the greatest country in history (or the greatest of today) and it never has been.
My vote goes for the Roman Empire.

I am sure China is still around.
Hardly, China for much (if not most) of its history has been invaded and taken over by entire different peoples, broken up, reunited and broken again just to reunite later.
Byzantine had the same general form of government and maintained its sovereignty for 1100 years.
I can see people saying the US out of Patriotism, but apart from that well, all other reasons fall flat.
I'll have to go with the Antarctic Empire.

Been a Marine 6 years, so yeah it gets me a little hot under the collar. But the Captain in charge of that recruiting station totally flamed the protesters from Code Pink in an open letter and did it with tact like a military officer would, so I had a good laugh at that. It's just a bunch of old hippies still burning their bras and bitter cuz they never married, no big deal. Least it wasn't the whackjobs from the westboro baptist church out there:lol:

Well I think it's fairer to say the world revolves around you when you actually rule a quarter of it, rather than just influence it like the US does.
This is why you shouldnt make threads like this because jackass anti-american people come here to this American MADE website and talk sh*tThrice125
americans take great pride in their freedom, i think you forgot something called freedom of speech. I don't mean people have a right to hurt each other by words, I mean people have a right to express their opinion about a subject.
apart from that I really recommend the movie "Easy Rider", especially the part where Jack Nicholson is talking about freedom in america.
Great Britain was the greatest empire of all time, not just because I am British, but because there are reasons:
1. We owned more if not as much of the World as Rome and still managed to keep it in order.
Azure-Supernova
far more. the farthest Rome spread to was Spain to Arabia or so, and Canada alone has more land mass then that.

I'm not closed minded, but it's nearly impossible to say that the US doesn't have the most enlightened politcal system in the World. We were the first country that allowed people to pick their ruler, every other nation had theirs pressed upon them to that point. So no, I don't like in a "think walled bubble" and the politics aren't THAT bad. The system is best ever created.

do some research, i hope in time you realize your crazy
In actual fact England was the world's first modern parliamentary democracy and consequently many constitutional, governmental and legal innovations that had their origin in England have been widely adopted by other nations.
remember england is also why you exist ...
and before you ask im not english and i love america
i'd feel selfish if i said the U.S.
in recent times? canada. they're good to their people and don't stick a foot in world affairs.

First parlamentary democracy, yes, but you still had a Monarch, the US was the first nation to ever allow their citizens to pick their national executive. The British weren't.

Do you actually know anything about the british empire? sure they were arrogant... only nation on earth to put "great" in their name... But they were the absolute undisputed power in there time. What America has to day absolutely pales in comparison to the British Empire's hey day.
as I said Britain had control... that means they forcibly invaded and ceased control of more than 1/4 of the earths land mass. That is way, way, way beyond America's capabilities. And America will never be able to achieve that. And during that time Britain had the military power to crush many rebellions, the navy to as the song goes "rule the sea's"... What the British Empire did was mad. And something like it most likely won't ever be achieved again.
