Amen. This whole healthcare bill thing is a terrible thing this country had to pass. I could not believe that they passed it the way they did, our forefathers are rolling in their graves as we speak, this isnt the country they ment for us to have.

kittyloaf69

Our forefathers were racist biggots that felt that the average person should not vote, and government should be solely in the hands of the elite aristocracy that existed during the time.. There are many things to learn about the founding fathers.. But some how claim that they are still the best people to look to for aid is ridiculous, they were still a product of their time.

Are you kidding? The average person shouldn't vote. This last election was decided because it turned into a popularity contest. The average American is too stupid to vote.

Most people who voted for obama didnt even know about his veiws, I was listening to radio and they were interveiwing obama supporters and not one could answer what he stood for.

So since your guy didn't win you want to restrict who can vote untill only those who will vote for your guy can vote?

[QUOTE="kittyloaf69"] You can say whatever you want. The point is that they are ILLEGAL immigrants.

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20000846-503544.html "Illegal immigrants will not be allowed to buy health insurance in the exchanges -- even if they pay completely with their own money." "Illegal immigrants are not eligible for Medicaid." How have you guys been going on about this point for so long without realizing this? People are so ignorant of the realities of this bill it is fairly complex, but I mean, come on, educate yourself.

Well, what does John McCain stand for? That's a trite, infantile question, and besides, those sidewalk interviews are always cherry-picked.

IMO, i think we as americans should be more worried about the things that are hurting this country little by little. Inflation, outsourcing, and big corporations that do nothing more than claim they 'are losing money' but have no problem paying CEO's millions of dollars.

This health care bill will be adjusted to iron out the kinks, let's just hope that when they do adjust it they think about the country as a whole more than their seat of power.

There were an equal number of those types of interviews from Republican conventions that showed McCain supporters woefully uninformed of the very issues they seemed to be so passionate about. So, of course noone can make a blanket statement that one sides' supporters are less informed about issues than another.

You can't really implement any system in which those who are politically educated and 'intelligent' are the only ones allowed to vote. Any possible system would be terribly exclusive and probably politically motivated (a lot of literacy tests back in the day in the South were designed to exclude blacks). I think the best solution to a lack of knowledge is encouraging people to become interested and involved, not exclude them outright.

They used to have tests in southern states before you could vote. The Supreme Court ruled, though, that this was illegal. By testing voters, they effectively kept out quite a number of minority voters. Not to mention that it is easy to manufacture the tests in order to qualify, and disqualify, certain sects of the population. That is not a power you want to give to anyone. Please think about this kittyloaf.

Only thing I really knew about McCaine was that he was aginst gay rights and he was pretty much another bush, I thought about voting for obama but when he started talking about spreading the wealth and ''change'' I mean change isnt always bad but I always thought ''what change?'' and he also got into debates with a random plumber that asked the right questions and he didnt like it...Learning how extreame obama was I decided to go for a third party candidate so that I can atleast say I didnt contribute to either.

Honestly there are very few people I can see being thrilled about this bill. People who want privatization won't be happy, because this forces people to pay into the insurance companies, and forces the insurance companies to have more reliance on the gov't. And people who want to reign in the insurance companies won't be happy, because it forces people to buy private insurance, whether they want it or not. People concerned about unemployment won't be happy, because this bill will lead to lost jobs.

well, I think the people who will be happy about this bill are the people who will finally be getting healthcare, like those who've been denied based on pre-existing conditions, or those who believe everyone should have healthcare, or people who need healthcare, which I think entails a lot of people probably.

The wait depends on the hospital, not your insurance company :| Anyway, you are complaining because more people now finally get to get health care, and you might have to wait behind them? Nice.

not really in practice. most poor people will not be forced to, for instance, and there's a lot of room for debate over how much that particular measure will actually be enforced. The New York Times: Although most Americans who do not obtain health insurance would face a federal penalty starting in 2014, many experts question how strict the enforcement of that penalty would actually be. The first year, consumers who did not have insurance would owe $95, or 1 percent of income, whichever is greater. But the penalty would subsequently rise, reaching $695, or 2 percent of income. Families who fall below the income-tax filing thresholds would not owe anything. Nor would people who cannot find a policy that costs less than 8 percent of their income, said Sara R. Collins, a vice president at the Commonwealth Fund, an independent nonprofit research group. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/22/your-money/health-insurance/22consumer.html?hp

Without immigrants many states would have a decreasing population. Not to mention, finding a good way to 'legalize' illegal immigrants means new sources of income taxes. It's not like illegals don't already use our services, it's time to get our money back from them.

xionvalkyrie

Yeah except they have been putting money into the "system" much of which they'll never see the benefits from like social security and medicare.

http://www.azcentral.com/business/articles/2008/04/10/20080410biz-TaxingImmigrants-10.html

They can't draw from either medicaid not care or SS.

[QUOTE="nocoolnamejim"][QUOTE="Theokhoth"]Gee, after the passing of the bill healthcare stocks have suddenly magically improved. Teh socialismz gunna destoyz our healthcarez

Don't your bring your "facts" and your "evidence" in here. All those prove is that...is that...is that you're a big stupid head! :P True legislation is made from gut feel and instinct!

08:15 am : S&P futures vs fair value: -7.00. Nasdaq futures vs fair value: -9.00. The futures are currently indicating a lower open for each of the major averages this morning. The news that is dominating the headlines this morning is that last night, the House gave final passage to the Senate's health care legislation. The final vote came in at 219-212, with no Republicans supporting the bill and 34 Democrats voting no. As I watch the Live feed I also noticed Direct TV going up. Must be because of the Healthcare bill!

Considering everyone by law has to purchase from these companies or face jail time, that isn't a huge surprise.

Yeah, That's true. Have you decided what you're going to do about your Healthcare?

If you have no income, they are not going to make you buy health insurance.

I thought if it was if you're "Able" to buy healthcare. As in, if you're eligible for work etc..

Some info here:

"There is an exemption for low-income people. The Senate bill exempted people with incomes under the federal poverty level ($21,200 for a family of four) whereas Obama's plan, like the House version, would exempt people under the tax-filing threshold ($45,295 for a family of four). But the fines levied under the insurance mandate would be higher than the Senate proposed. Obama also keeps a "hardship exemption" that excuses anyone from buying insurance if it would cost more than 8 percent of their income."

More info from the NYTimes here if you're interested.

Financially able. Not theoretically able. People who have no money are obviously not financially able to buy health insurance.

Mercury_May2112

Are you kidding? The average person shouldn't vote. This last election was decided because it turned into a popularity contest. The average American is too stupid to vote.

That wouldn't be fair. Who are you to decide who is "smart" enough to vote? :|

I'm not making the decision. It's how I feel. There should at least be some kind of test to determine it.

There IS an out. People with income below a certain level have a financial hardship exemption. If you have no income, you have no requirement to buy health insurance.

.. The test will be bias one way or the other.. This same kind of "test" is what has been used in all sorts of nations to bar out certain groups the ruling group does not want them to vote..
