[QUOTE="CecilChups"]

[QUOTE="MirkoS77"]What a terrible way to see things.  You just need to know where to look, you are only seeing what you choose to.  There is as much beauty in the world as there is ugliness.  How you decide to view and live your life around it is only up to you. I'm a pessimist myself, but even I can easily say there is always hope and it's very possible to see all the good among the bad.

MirkoS77

I've been trying that for years. Then something comes along and it changes my perception again. It's just so, SO negative in the world in general. I don't see how you do it.

Also, knowing humanity will kill itself out of selfishness and greed really doesn't help matters. We had it all and now we will destroy it all. I just feel sorry for the planet itself that it has to deal with our species.

I tend to believe that the harsher things get for people, the more prone they are to become positive.  Almost like it's necessary to survive.  I also agree with others to ignore much of what you see and hear.  It's the information age, you hear about all the bad in the blink of an eye from everywhere every day, and nothing garners more attention than coverage of negative news events.

I find Bill Waterson put it best:

"It's not denial. I'm just selective about the reality I accept."

At times, I wish television news never existed. All it does it show that people love seeing bad things happen to others. Its incredibly sad. I mean, why else does it sell so much and its always being reported?

[QUOTE="CecilChups"][QUOTE="chaoscougar1"][QUOTE="CecilChups"] It's alright, it really doesn't matter anymore. I take comfort in knowing that someday I won't exist on earth. Its kind of liberating.

You know what I take comfort in that too And judging by your posts It will be sooner rather than later...

Thanks man. That actually put a smile on my face :)

Gee thanks for the depressing negative story, have you ever thought about seeing a therapist to try and help you see things in a more positive light?

First step is realizing the world isn't miserable and getting a better attitude, kiddo.

You should do yourself a favor. Log out of gamespot until you are over 18 years of age. You know, an actual adult. Then, you can come back here and actually try to have a conversation with the grown ups, son.

You come in here, acting all judgmental and then write this condecending nonsense. You need the reality check.

Yeah I agree, looks to me that we have a new troll among us.

a universe without an intervening creator is far more elegant and beautiful, and a lot more hopeful.  We have each other, friends and family.

CecilChups

Oh I bet. I bet its also more beautiful believing that when they pass away someday, they just rot in the ground. Yeah, having no creator is great, isn't it?

Rot? Not necessarily.  They fertilize.  They compost.  They turn into something beautiful.  A tree to hold the nests of birds, a bush to bare the fruit to feed animals, the nutrient soil or a beautiful pasture that future people will paint pictures of.

Its been a while since physics, but how does it go? Energy never disappears, it only changes form?

This is not counting the memories and evidence of a person's existence, passed on from generation to generation.

I think you need to reframe your worldview, Cecil, it seems to be really negative.  Yeah, stuff can get pretty ugly, especially if you listen to what is forced on you,  but the steady trickle of good overwhelms even the greatest of infrequent waves of negativity.

I didn't read the entire topic because it was long, but basically.. Why should I be scared of death? I have already experienced inexistence prior to my being born. Also, death isn't really scary cause you know there's nothing to be missed, as you can't complain about your predicament or have thoughts on the subject.

You're totally fine with the idea that your loved ones just stay dead forever when they pass on? How does this NOT bother you? Finding out if they live on in a peaceful place would kill all of my hopeless views of this doomed species.

Each day that flys by, how do you cope with all of the misery that this world brings. All that you hear in the news is some man killing his wife, gang killings, some maniac going postal killing dozens of people, bombings etc. Each day that goes by, I wonder that if there is truly no creator (I'm agnostic I guess) then whats the point in it all. I guess if there is no higher power, then there is technically no point and that we are evolutionary organisms.

Sometimes people wonder why I'm not goal oriented or ambitious, I just say whats the point. We are doomed to kill ourselves through nuclear weapons anyway. Our history is dark. The holocaust, purpopsely injecting diseases in african americans long ago, intentionally letting radiation out onto a city just for an experiment to see what it does, it just makes everything so...hopeless.

I've heard people say "You don't need a creator, just give yourself purpose". Sorry. For me that doesn't work. I can't put myself into self ignorance that way. That would be me trying to rationalize that I'm special. I'm not and if there is no creator, then no one is. I realize nobody is really special. The universe is so vast that this planet is a tiny little sand grain, just a pebble. Just existing through the accident of evolution. So much chaos and death *sigh*. What is wrong with the human species and this planet.

The price of gas is rising, the cost of living is rising, our politicians and people in power are corrupt and psychopaths (same could be said for ALL world leaders, not just in a certain country). Really, what is the point. Everything is just..hopeless. The way our society is so superficial and shallow as well. People putting too much emphasis on clothes, how certain people look , the crap on TV ( I don't watch it, but hear about it). I mean, really?

I guess I think about this so much because losing loved ones is  the hardest thing to deal with in life. All the chaos in this world, I think of the all the people that not only lost their lives, but their loves ones as well. Its just so depressing. The only thing I can really do is continue to treat people the way I wanted to be treated, just focus on me, I can only control myself. But sometimes its just so hard when you hear or see that news headline of a lunatic doing something so heartless.

It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on this and how you cope.

Also, does anyone else feel the same way perhaps? Peace.

You assert that I wouldn't want to live forever, but in reality I long for an existence much longer than my own. It doesn't bother me because it's inevitable and as you grow up it just becomes a part of life, an inevitable fate that has been going on for millions of years on this planet.

Wouldn't it be more depressing knowing there's an all powerful creator who is willingly let this stuff happen?

chaoscougar1

Not at all.

How do we know this "all powerful creator" is willingly letting this stuff happen?

Fact is, nothing matters in life. Everyone dies, which means our consciousness is gone. And everything you cared about disappears through space and time.

I don't think there is an easy way to sum up my response without it being like writing an essay for college...and that ain't happening. Short version: Look at the big picture: educate yourself, surround yourself with good people, expand your horizons and do not dwell on what is wrong but what is right. Etc etc...... Dismal outlook only reflects your limited view. Don't use it as an excuse for your issues.

What if God is a deist God which created the universe with no specific purpose and couldn't give a single sh!t about anything in it?

I don't believe that, so it doesn't matter to me. Regardless, I wouldn't see that as valid. I take value over stupid things such as cakes that I bake. Wouldn't a God care about a world he built? The deist god pretty much kills off any mythological tales around anyway, which would be dull. :P

God is supposedly infinitely powerful, so people are infinitely insignificant.

Also there are more planets in the universe than cakes you've baked.

[QUOTE="ShadowsDemon"][QUOTE="Zeviander"] What if God is a deist God which created the universe with no specific purpose and couldn't give a single sh!t about anything in it?toast_burner

I don't believe that, so it doesn't matter to me. Regardless, I wouldn't see that as valid. I take value over stupid things such as cakes that I bake. Wouldn't a God care about a world he built? The deist god pretty much kills off any mythological tales around anyway, which would be dull. :P

Also there are more planets in the universe than cakes you've baked.

Which is why it's obvious he does care.

Yes it is.

No

I'm curious to why you think this, as many seem to agree.  As in, why is the world not beautiful without a creator?

Fair enough, I'm tired, my bad.  So you'd say it's equally as beautiful?

Hard to say considering we can't really understand the nature of either the universe or a God (if there is one). I guess equally then. In any case the universe as we know it is probably not the most amazing or beautiful existence.

Sure. The world have many problems. But, I'm not miserable. I've been to places of massive squalor. Yet, many people there still manage to smile and have hope, creator or no creator.

If I didn't truly believe that God has always been, and will always be, at my back, guiding me through the terrible times, I probably would find a bridge and jump off.

He never promised that you would skip through life, happily ever after. But he's always there for you, whether you want him to be or not.
