[QUOTE="Bourbons3"]Shell suits were cool once, as was break dancing and wearing your cap backwards. Being cool isn't necessarily a good thing...Button_man

This does not sound like valid logic. Don't be cool now because you may not look cool in 20 years? Who looks cool in 20 years anyways?

I meant that people act cool because they are stupid and follow trends for the sake of it. Past cool things prove that people who followed them were stupid...

not people bragging about money, drugs, and violence.

That's the meaning right there. It might not be as preachy as some rock songs, but it still has an audience who likes it.

It's what those things represent. If you're actin' like a G you feel invincible you're tough, your someone people don't wanna rub the wrong way. That said, I only say yo at the beginning of sentences usually preceded by "Ey". I say the n word from time to time, but only when refering to a friend who does something dumb or silly. My pants don't sag past my butt and my shirt is large cuz that's comfortable(large shoulders, I need the space.)

So its considered cool to say "yo", "homie", andthe N wordevery other word, wear a rag on your head, wear a crooked hat on top of that, wear pants falling off your butt, a shirt thats big enough to keep 10 people warm, and say things like "I iz da man G skillet".

bmoreangel

I don't know if I should laugh or be offended by that. I know you're talkng about Black people saying we sound ignorant blah, blah, blah but if thats how someone chooses to talk or dress then no offense or anything but its really none of your business. Those words like yo and homie are slang, a way of communication like how someone might use dude. And if u don't like the way certain people talk then just ignore it.

I'm pretty sure he wasn't referring to black people. I know a few black people are they're perfectly nice, decent people.
He's talking about the people who think it's cool to act like a 'gansta'. That could be anybody from any nationality.

Exactly. So bmoreangel you kinda just insulted your own race.

Letme make this clear e-arguments get no where and I don't wanna start 1 but I heard other posters do something like this and thats who they were referring to

That doesn't change the fact that you assumed ,because of the description given, that they must be african american. yea, you kinda owned yourself.

That's actually commonly the case. Someone will make a general statement about the way a person talks or acts and someone will accuse him of racism, but in reality, the person who says "racist!" is usually the one who makes the assumption in the first place.

Okay so what would most of you "gangsta" haters think. If someone dressed like a typical "gangsta" but would act/speak/and represent himself better then most of the people that judged him? You can't judge someone on how they look. Didn't they teach you that in the 1st grade?

Of course they like it. Why else would they wear it? And I think there is seriously something wrong with someone's opinion if he thinks gang-bangers are cool.

I had a few good laughs reading this post, however it ISNT funny how you can all just judge people on the way they look... Its pathetic. I really dont care what you dress like as long as you dont press it on me to do the same. Dont worry about what other people do it doesnt make a difference to you.... Whew.

No, I don't care what they dress, talk ( as long as I can understand it) or look. Its the attitude that most people have when they these attributes above. They act like they are tough or can beat anyone but when they are alone they can't do anything to defend themselves. They need to be in groups to feel secure and start crap with people its disgusting. I'm not stereotyping everybody who has these features, infact some of them are my friends who are good guys and introduce to some kool rap artists. The fact is however, most of them will act like jerks.

Good point, from now on I won't judge people wearing swastika shirts with KKK hats. After all, maybe they are all just nice people.

Of course, I'm being sarcastic. You're point is not always practical. I'm sure there are a lot of good people who dress like that, but the point is, it comes from the mentality that being a street-thug is respectable.

I'd feel sorry for the people who have to deal with these people on a daily basis. I find it extremely annoying. It's not that I mind how they dress, and I don't mind the 'yo' part so much. It's generally the way they speak, in that you need a translator :P

I never said you did, but if you're denying that the large majority of people who dress like that act accordingly, then you're mistaken. Like I said, the dress comes from the mentality that being a thug is cool.

That's totally different. I was reffering to people that wear oversized shirts, and jeans. Hats and chains and whatnot. I'm talking about someone going around wearing all red or blue with Crip or Blood tattoo'd on there neck holdin a gun in his back pocket and giving everyone dirty looks. There's a difference. People wearing the aforementioned or people wearing KKK styled clothing are promoting it and they pretty much want everyone to know who they are. Someone wearing a big shirt, big jeans, hat, and chain is much different.

People are going to wear what they want. Some people are going to follow a certain style because they think it will make them cool, these people are impresionable and since so many people are like this trends develop and then move on. You can criticize any fashion and ask why people think it is cool. Why do people dress "gangsta"? Why do people dress in dark clothes and band shirts? why do people dress preppy? Why do people dress casual? why do some people dress etc...Everyone is going to have a style that they feel comfortable with, most people aren't doign it to be cool, they are doing it because they like it. I don't see why you (TC) see an issue with this (i address you directly because these threads have become all to common for you now (why do these people think they are cool, why do people liek crappy music, etc)). TC, what kinda clothes do you wear? Band shirts? casual? the pseudo unique Abercrombie type clothing? what? Do you wear it because you think you are cool? I hope not, i'd assume you wear it because you like it, let other people do the same.

Acting like whoever is a higher status would seem to elevate you to their level.

Ex. If you act like Paris Hilton who is "rich and hot" then you'll be perceived as more "rich and hot" as well.

I've read a few pages worth of responses to this topic, so I now feel that I can construct my own.

First off, I will say that I have NEVER thought the whole gangsta look and lifestyle was cool. Seriously... Do people that act, speak, and dress that way have any idea of what they are attempting to emulate?

It's not rocket science. It really isn't. Just look a the word, "gangsta." It's slang for gangster. What is a gangster? It's a person in a gang, so here we are again. We're back to the whole glorifying violence, selling drugs, and robbing convience stores. Not only that but it glorifies lack of education (spitting bad slang out of every orafice), and ignorance of what a gangsta really is.

My point is that the whole gangsta fad is just for people who think it's cool to look and speak like a thug, and I would like to make it perfectly clear that this refers to people from all walks of life. I've seen all types endulge this fad, regardless of race, ethnic background, sexual orientation, etc.

Sure, I'm not the picture of societal norms myself, and I never claimed I was God. However, I find it silly that people from upscale neighborhoods act like they live in the ghetto when they themselves have no idea of what the ghetto really is.

Case and point: The "gangsta" lifestyle is not cool. It's idiotic.

Aren't gangsters supposed to be Italian, where suits, and actually look and sound really classy before the spread your brains across the room with their well concealed pistol? Thats the cool 'Gansta'. The original, anyways.

[QUOTE="Godly_Cure"]It's not considered cool, but it's a style. Like some people who only worship classic rock. That gets old also.HessenKnight

So what? Classic Rock songs actually had some meaning, not people bragging about money, drugs, and violence.

Now you're generalizing. Not all classic rock songs had wonderful meanings: just as not all songs of other genres are about money, drugs, and violence.:|

There were plenty of classic rock songs about drugs sex and money. :|

Yah but at least they don't all go "I f***** my *** then I made her suck my ****." these are the lyrics to baisicly every rap song and it's disgusting and un called for.

Aren't gangsters supposed to be Italian, where suits, and actually look and sound really classy before the spread your brains across the room with their well concealed pistol? Thats the cool 'Gansta'. The original, anyways.lobodob

Don't let tv and movies turn you into an idiot, there is no cool type of gangster or however you say it. They are just people who found it easier commiting crimes instead of getting a job and finishing school like the rest of society.

It's idiotic.

thank you.

I might pay for this later but whatever,

I blame the celebrity hip hop generation and the way they glorify drug selling, pimping and shooting a guy just cause he knocked off your hat(canadian refrence)

God tell me you aren't serious, it is safe to assume you have a very limited experience when it comes to rap and don't know what your talking about.
