0/10. Music isn't dead, it's more alive than it's ever been.LiftedHeadshotI'm not too sure about that last part...
I suggest stop looking to the radio for new music. There will always be good music, you just have to sift through the sea of crap.
I don't know i anyone's interested, but I just recently found out about this band, called Adept. They are a swedish Metal band, pretty friggin' rad I think. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkIMW2Uq85Iletlive4
they're pretty good musically, but lyrically they're not overly good, and have a few rather sexist songs which brings them down somewhat for me.
I am glad grunge is dead it was fun then but I can't think of anything that was dated quicker than grunge.
The Funeral by Arcade Fire came out in 2003
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEKC5pyOKFU
Origin of Symmertry by Muse came out in 2001
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x43IrXnFK30
Mika's Life in Cartoon Motion came out in 2007
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWiccrTB4LM
and Sirens Sister's Unspeakable Things came out in 2009
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=na0rrZely-w
so you are wrong.
If we're now making generalizations and such, then I'll say music died by 1982, and the peak was 1969. Maniacc1
[1971] so you'd be wrong.
I've heard four of their songs, and downloaded them all immediately. I didn't know they had sexist lyrics, I'll look into that. I'm not much of a fan of sexism either, haha. But I think the chorus in The Ivory Tower is good lyrically in my opinion. "We are the sun and the sea and the mountain, We are the Children who still can't believe. We have faith, We have hope, We have answers.. in our heart is where we are free."letlive4
i know "sound the alarm" has some offensive lyrics towards women, and so does "at least give me my dreams back you negligent whore." Though, idk how serious they are in their lyrics. I know Asking Alexandria has "Not the America Average," and that song, while rather sexist, is so over the top that it almost seems like they wrote it just to be funny. I didn't know Adept had some new stuff out, I'm liking "the ivory tower." Hopefully they'll be able to tour the us, though idk how often post-hardcore bands from sweden come over seas. As for the lyrics, well I'll get my uplifting/inspirational stuff from power metal, but for their genre it's actually pretty good, apparently they have evolved since I first heard them.
They were. Good lyrics, shameful music.Nirvana probably killed music. They were pretty terrible.

So what happened was, Grunge was pop in the early 90's,
J-man45
THIS was pop in the 90's.
lol "Chinese food makes me sick" The lyrics of LFO are pure poetic gold."When you take a sip you buzz like a hornet
Billy Shakespeare wrote a whole bunch of sonnets"
"Stayed all summer then went back home,
Macauly Culkin was in Home Alone"

Thoughts?

deftones is music
surely, but what they spawned later on was horrible. I'm not saying that the Deftones were bad, just that everyone after them became deftones posers and nu-metal was then established into what it was.

Music went downhill when Justin Beiber started singing.jediknight52501
And before Justin Bieber, there was Soulja Boy. And before Soulja Boy there was Fallout Boy. And before Fallout Boy there was Terror Squad. And before Terror Squad there was 50 Cent, and before 50 Cent there was Eminem, & before Eminem there was Backstreet Boys, Nsync, Limp Bizkit, etc.
And before Limp Bizkit there were the last remaining bands that were actually decent. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Failure, Deftones, Refused, Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, & Mr. Bungle.

basic, you should be with me on this one, since you like The Cure. There comes a point in a man's life where music is subjective but objectivity is needed when you go out to parties or listen to stuff with your friends.
I pretty much avoid parties now soley on the basis that the music is so horrible, my ears bleed.

I don't listen to radio music ever. It is an abyss. But there is still good music to be heard.Woah dude. The Killers have some catchy pop post punk revival going on.....though I don't find their albums compelling....but to dismiss Joy Division in favor of The Killers? The Killers will never be as esteemed as Joy Division....nor their songs as powerful. Joy Division made albums as opposed to The Killers which make hits with album filler. You guys are all ridiculous. I love The Killers. I love Joy Division. All of that 80's new wave/post punk. I like the revival of it too. The Killers write great pop songs. "Mr Brightside" is undeniable. Joy Division were one of those groups that helped form the "post punk" movement, which led to electronica. All these bands PLAY THE SAME KIND OF ****. Who cares who is "original". The power is in the song. I cry during "atmosphere". But that was 30 years ago. Its time for new music. and Ian Curtis was a crap singer. Rest in peace :(

Not saying I don't like some of The Killers music....because I do. But post punk revival in no way is as good as the original post punk. And I listen to both generations of the music.

This seems to be very much a case of 'stuff was better in the old days'.
It would seem that your mind is already made up on the issue and you will never enjoy a new band again which is a shame.
That's the thing, it's common knowledge that Ska died in 1997 with this song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIGMUAMevH0
and Punk Rock died in 1998 with this song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWrKOAS4MxU&feature=related
Days of the New, Deftones, Korn, Limp Bizkit & a bunch of other ones, Filter, LP, SOAD & others followed suit from 1997-2001.
CaptainBeer
Punk rock never died with refused,on top of that refused are seen more as what is considered a hardcore band by todays standards and one of the biggest influences on modern hardcore which has spawned a mass of subgenres.
That album alone revived and modernised the hardcore scene by being what it was, to refute that claim is absolute nonsense cause most hardcore bands today have all listed Refused as a major influence on their songwriting and various other aspects.
On top of that "Punk" as you will see it still is going strong and trust me it is Blackpool has a massive punk festival every year im sure dunno if its stopped. But i can also say the likes ofThe king blues, Anti Flag,Against me and Frank Turner are still turning heads on the punk scene to be honest the genre's evolved like every other genre aswell as local scenes being as strong as ever.

Im not trying to dismiss Joy Division. The point Im making is that if all we do is cling to music from 30 years ago,we wont give new music achance. Joy Division was great, The Cure was great (You really think their new stuff holds the same weight?) , the list goes on; but its time for new artists' voices to be heard, and people shoot them down before they give it a shot.

Bloodflowers came out in 2000 and it's one of their better albums. And while I don't put The Cure or 4:13 Dream at the top of the list....they both have songs I do like. Underneath The Stars is equal to If Only Tonight We Could Sleep, From the Edge of the Deeo Green Sea, and songs of that caliber. I do like new music.....but as I said Joy Division > The Killers. Good music is timeless....[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"][QUOTE="scorch-62"] If you already knew that, you wouldn't need an explanation.scorch-62It was a rhetorical question to start with....;) It wasn't a question. Then I fail to see why you answered the statement.....nonetheless it was rhetorical.

The way you phrased the original statement comes off as nothing more than contempt derived from embitterment and gives the sense that you don't understand the subjectivity of music taste.
