There's really nothing wrong with the thread besides there being about seven that are of a very similar topic. The OP presented his points and COULD have been the impetus for interesting discussion. Unfortunately most of us are way too defensive.

Then don't worship him.
Its a shame though, because my god is a loving god. Not the way you interpret him.

If you believe in a forgiving and benign god, then the countless innocent deaths and global suffering through history should cause you some alarm. This is because it does not seem to fit with the message you deliver in these threads.

You are trying to justify gods existence. That's why you're posting here.

I know what time it is.

As I have said, death of i innocents is not a bad thing. They go to Heaven! What is bad about that?

No, I'm justifying that God is not evil.

I didn't say anything about time.:|

"Thou shalt not Kill"? If killing innocents is a good thing, why would he tell us not to kill? Then tell us to kill anyone who disagrees with you about your religion? If he exists, he's pretty cruel.

Well.. the book was written by man and men have always been blood thirsty. If you actualy believe the bible is the word of god then you're sadly mistaken.

For thousands of years men have been gathering together to deceide what should be in the bible and what shouldnt be. This has nothing to do with a god, or the only god.

It has to do with humans.

Anyways, you're silly as all other people seem to be when it comes to religion.

I agreed. Look at all those first born from Egypt that had nothing to do with the slaves. I'm sure some did but those that dint, died for nothing and a lot most likely went to Hell. Now this happened before the 10 commandments but its still murder...Take a look at King Davids history though, how many people did " A man of god" kill? And for what...just some land and the right to become a king.

All of the scriptures you quoted are from the Old Testament which was the old covenant. You need to read the New Testament because it's the new covenant and the old covenant doesn't apply to us. The Old Testament is there to explain how everything got started and the New Testament explains the life of Jesus and gives us instructions on how to live our lives in a way that brings purpose and joy to us and we can figure out what God wants us to do with our lives besides just existing.

Okay then, who's been pressuring you TO believe in God? :|Aquat1cF1sh

I was watching a documentary of the book of revalitations today in Dutch subtitles. (the day of harmagedon when jezus christ is suposedly returning back resurection)

Christians that were interviewed tell that all unbelievers will go to hell and burn for eternity for ever and ever.

Apparantly I'm going to hell... It was almost like they were threatening me. I felt kinda offended to be **** honest. So in a indirect way they were actually ''pressuring'' me yes.

[QUOTE="Theempire30"]

I been doing some Bible reading these past days and have stumble upon some very dark things. Some are just disturbing.

The following are people that God himself orders to kill.

Kill People Who Don't Listen to Priests

Anyone arrogant enough to reject the verdict of the judge or of the priest who represents the LORD your God must be put to death. Such evil must be purged from Israel. (Deuteronomy 17:12)

Death for Cursing Parents

1) If one curses his father or mother, his lamp will go out at the coming of darkness. (Proverbs 20:20 )

2) All who curse their father or mother must be put to death. They are guilty of a capital offense. (Leviticus 20:9)

Death to Followers of Other Religions

Whoever sacrifices to any god, except the Lord alone, shall be doomed. (Exodus 22:19)

Kill Nonbelievers

They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul; and everyone who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman. (2 Chronicles 15:12-13)

Kill Women Who Are Not Virgins On Their Wedding Night

But if this charge is true (that she wasn't a virgin on her wedding night), and evidence of the girls virginity is not found, they shall bring the girl to the entrance of her fathers house and there her townsman shall stone her to death, because she committed a crime against Israel by her unchasteness in her father's house. Thus shall you purge the evil from your midst. (Deuteronomy 22:20-21 NAB)

Kill Men, Women, and Children

"Then I heard the LORD say to the other men, "Follow him through the city and kill everyone whose forehead is not marked. Show no mercy; have no pity! Kill them all - old and young, girls and women and little children. But do not touch anyone with the mark. Begin your task right here at the Temple." So they began by killing the seventy leaders. "Defile the Temple!" the LORD commanded. "Fill its courtyards with the bodies of those you kill! Go!" So they went throughout the city and did as they were told." (Ezekiel 9:5-7 NLT)

God Kills all the First Born of Egypt

And at midnight the LORD killed all the firstborn sons in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn son of Pharaoh, who sat on the throne, to the firstborn son of the captive in the dungeon. Even the firstborn of their livestock were killed. Pharaoh and his officials and all the people of Egypt woke up during the night, and loud wailing was heard throughout the land of Egypt. There was not a single house where someone had not died. (Exodus 12:29-30 NLT)

OK, so some of these are things you shouldn't do because well its "wrong" I get that, but what God is this that kills for such little things though? Why embrace into a religion full of blood and with sons sleeping with their mothers, brothers killing each other for absolutely nothing, and a god that orders thousands to go into war and burn and destroy everything in their paths.

Matts07

Good for you now stop posting this crap moron!

So what else do you do, besides exist, over someone that does not believe in god?

The teachings of the new testament often refer to the myths of the old testament and give them validity and credence. Should we reject those teachings too?

I agree. Isn't it funny that churches pick some parts of the bible to preach but other parts ( like the ones you showed) they ignore? If christianity is that great shouldn't they be praising the whole bible not bits and pieces?

man i wish the mods would have the balls to lock these type of threads.

I'm not sure I understand. My comment was a sympathetic observation that other people have encountered the same difficulty the TC has articulated here. I wasn't snidely criticizing the redundancy of religious threads, nor does a lack of courage prevent me from locking any thread. ;) This one may not be completely original, but unless a recent thread has covered the same ground, there is no reason to lock this thread.

Some of them are fine and are based on pre-christian social structures. Others are quite redundant today.

People that do not believe in christianity or theism do have morals too, you know.

There is much good common sense written in the bible. Does that mean you can deny the rabid hatred and poor moral views in the same book?

Perhaps you can pick your beliefs to suit, while ignoring passages that don't fit in with your assumptions of divinity.

Thanks for putting words in the mouths of people who's beliefs you can't comprehend. As you can see from my above post, you are wrong on this count in my case - and (I suspect) many other atheists views too.

Killing is a form of murdering. Its murder when its force on them. His forced others to kill for his name so that is still murdering.

However, im pretty sure there are beyond devout Muslims that believe people that don't believe in what they do when be damned but i won't say that's true since i dont know islam that well. Just saying, not just christians believe in damnation to those who don't believe. Do i make sense sorta?

People should just take the positive and reasonable aspects of religion and apply it to their lives instead of adhering to an entire belief system which is bound to have many flaws.

Oh I see why. It's because all of that stuff you were reading is mainly from the Old Testament which is very violent, but most Christians follow teachings from the New Testament because it is not as violent due to it being the Old Covenant which was very strict and punishable because Jesus hadn't died on the cross yet. But when He did everything became more easy going and God became less violent because there weren't as many rules.

[QUOTE="aDrenaLine1337"]thats all from the old testament.. read the new testament they call it the new testament for a reason.......aDrenaLine1337

It's still the Bible...Old or New.

P.S Read Revelations...its all about death.

I read revalations and its entirely different from the Old testament.. its basically telling those who ridicule God will go to hell those who worship will go to heaven

Now if any part of the bible were written under the influence of hallucinogenics then it most definitely would be Revelations.

[QUOTE="Aquat1cF1sh"]Okay then, who's been pressuring you TO believe in God? :|Theempire30

I dint say anyone was pressuring me, I'm making a point of how violent Christianity is...

Christianity is not violent at all. . .care to give a verse from the NEW Testament? Because the Old Testament pertains to Judaism, not Christianity.;)

Its called Revelation...the whole thing's a blood bath.

Because that's about the Apocalypse. What religion doesn't have a brutal ending to the world.:?

You don't have to follow the Bible to worship God.

A blood bath caused by Satan, the Antichrist, and humans who behead Christians, NOT God. The Bad guys.

Satan was created by God...Therefore God is still responsible, if he knows it all and is perfect as He claims to be then He would of seen a rebellion of angels coming.

Maybe He was bored and needed an enemy.
