I've always thought of master chief as the dude with no identity other than being human, and shooting hordes of aliens until they are all dead at his feet. Beyond the loss of character mysteriousness, whatevs.

Where would you get these statistics from? There are not enough Gay Gamers to warrant a franchise where the protagonist is Gay How is this even arguable?

what exactly are you even arguing? I'm not gay and I would love to see a gay protagonist in a video game.

Why?

"A Government Survey" is not really a source.

For ****'s sake, read the goddamn link. The survey was an extension of the 2005/2006 census. Next are you going to say that the US Census Bureau isn't a reliable source because it's part of the government?

Game companies should not start making Gay Protagonists. The Protoganists are Heterosexual because that is what the majority of Gamers identify with.

Snipes_2

They also shouldn't make them badass. The protagonists shouldn't be badass because the majority of gamers are not badass. How can you relate (or feel connected) to such a character?

"Badass" is subjective. Everyone has a different definition of it, plus, most kids playing these games see the protagonist as someone they would want to be.

And I. Want. To. Be. Gay.

8.8 million of 307,066,550 is 4%? No, It's 2.86%. Still an insanely low number, and how many of them are gamers? Probably A LOT less.

I'm guessing he doesn't want to play as a gay protagonist because he isn't gay Game developers want to reach the widest audience possible so they stick to the generic game hero. However, since sexuality isn't usually an issue in most games....develop your own character story as you see fit. Then everyone is happy....

That's what I'm saying. The Gay MArket isn't very large, so making a Gay Protagonist wouldn't really yield much profit.

Why would they have any reason to implement such a character development? A character's sexuality, unless relevant to the plotline (rarely ever is), isn't important.

I consistantly play hetero sexual characters all the time, I also play female characters and characters that are not human.... I don't understand how a heterosexual could have a problem doing the same once in a while with a homosexual character... in fact, i do recall an old playstation one game getting a little extra spotlight for having a lesbian protagonist.

Minorities get acknowledged in society, too, whether you like it or not.
Yes, You posted the Most Relevant part, that's why I read THAT PART...Snipes_2
That doesn't mean you can ignore everything else, especially since we were arguing OVER INFORMATION THAT WAS PROVIDED IN THE GODDAMN LINK.

The Argument is not over whether or not Minorities get represented. There are not enough Gay Gamers to warrant a game with a solely Gay Protagonist. Maybe I assumed too much, when I see someone post the "Most Relevant" information, That's what I generally look at.

nearly all characters now are completely ambiguous, so it's up to the gamer to decide anyway

So, in other words, you're saying that minorities don't deserve to get represented in various forms of media because they're minorities? Okay; that's all you had to say.

If he saved the world, who cares if he's gay Plus, in 2552 being gay isn't really taboo, it's all about interspecies relations. :P

And that's exactly how Master Chief was designed as a character.

That isn't always possible in a broader sense (which I'm going by since you said character, and not chief.) It be rather hard imagining a princess is a prince when they look much differently. :P
