Would the BMW burn a lot less fuel cos of all the new tech in it? And I reckon that Mustang couldn't corner to save it's life.

thegerg

Haha. Maybe you should look at the test results before reckoning.

I think people see the name BMW and automatically assume it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. The handling on American muscle cars has vastly improved since it's early days in the 60's/70's. I guess that same old stigma won't go away though.

Isn't the next-gen M series BMW being downgraded to a small V6 with twin turbos and an electric supercharger? So much for naturally aspirated engines.

The M3 started (E46) as an inline-6, then jumped up to a V8 for the E92 model generation. If you knew anything about vehicle performance, you would know that turbo chargers are lighter than more cylinders... and unlike muscle cars, weight plays a big role in the performance of BMW's, so cutting out a bunch of weight by dropping two whole cylinders, will be better than any advantage natural aspiration would give. Also, the new M5 has proven resoundingly that a TTV8 >>> NA V10.

[QUOTE="imaps3fanboy"][QUOTE="psychobrew"]Niether is worth it. You're better off getting a Kia Forte or a Hyundai Sonata. My days of overpriced cars are done.thegerg

Honda civic > those two Ive had a kia and it was one of the biggest pieces of junk, and I've heard bad things about Hyundai

Hyundai is making some of the best cars on the market today.

Example: Hyundai Genesis 3.8L it's a beauty. And I'm not talking about the coupe...

Aside from the aesthetics (of which everyone will have a different opinion), the reliability and build quality of what Hyundai has been producing lately are amazing.

To each their own, but I see spending 60k on a car to be a waste of money. It's not like you're going to be driving these things [legally] in a manner that is pushing them to the limits of their capabilities either way.

In addition to my earlier comment, 9 out of 10 times I see someone driving like an as shole, it is a BMW. I wouldn't want one due to that stigma anyway. (not that I would ever buy a Mustang either)

What makes you think you know how people will drive their cars?

Unless you are blatantly disregarding the law and safety of others, having a $60k car will not get you anywhere any faster than my $20k car will.

A faster car will, though. I'm not talking about price. Anyway, there are ways to push an M3 or Mustang to its limits without disregarding law or putting others in more danger than if you were driving 35mph to the grocery store. To say that one can't drive "these things [legally] in a manner that is pushing them to the limits of their capabilities either way" is simply untrue.

What, are you the new LJ? Why are you so contrarian? Every $60k BMW I see around here is either driving erratically, putting people in danger, or sitting in traffic right along with my car, which costs 1/3 of the price. I don't see anyone ever pushing these things to the limit, and being a responsible driver at the same time.

Any car can last 20 or more years. In my country you still got Malibus from the '70s running strong. It's how you maintain the car. Sure, maybe Japanese and Germans are more reliable but that doesn't mean that Fords or any American vehicle can't last 20 years.

BMW's do? Did you ever hear about the 8-series? A car that, almost as soon as it hit 100K miles, the engine just failed working and required a complete rebuild.

I would take the BMW. It costs more, but I hate American cars with a passion since all of the American car companies are in bed with the government. Any German car would be ahead of American on my list. Plus BMWs are pretty cool.

If you have the money it really doesn't matter does it?

BMW will keep an exorbitantly higher resale value, not to mention the prestige associated with it. Finally, the Beamer will last you a great deal longer. The Mustang may go 200,000 miles if you're lucky, while the BMW will go twice that or longer on average. This is based on keeping the car maintained, serviced, and not constantly ragged and hot rodded out.

You really get what you pay for in this case. Maybe not in the upper, upper end of 6 figure cars, but a BMW will always trump a Ford all the way around. It's not just about equal performance as I've stated. And I actually like Fords and other American cars. It's just the fact of the matter. I've grown up in the 80's and 90's when American cars were complete garbage on the large scale for the most part in the lower to mid-end.

BMW's are unreliable and overrated

Whereas Mustangs are as unique as a**holes.

For that kind of money, I'd just get an infinit G or a Grand Cherokee. Much better daily drivers

Of the two I'd have the M3. While the Mustang has the immediate cool factor to it I think the M3 would probably age better and on our smaller roads in the UK would be more practical to drive to.

If I had 60k, I'd get the Tesla Model S.

It would probably outlast both the Mustang and the BMW combined. Less moving parts, less maintenance. There is only one moving part: the rotor. Because of this, acceleration is instantaneous. MAX torque at 0RPM.

  • 0-60 in 5.6s (4.4s Performance Edition)
  • Instantaneous Torque (MAX @ 0RPM)
  • 300mi range
  • 45 min charge
  • Seats 7

basically the passenger side of the car has two doors that open normally, it doesn't have suicide doors like RX-8s or Saturn coupes lol and i liked the non turbo when i test drove it but id definetly go with the turbo power to bring it into the hot hatch market. im debating between that and the 2013 focus st

It's also not just in the stats. Though I have no experience in a new M3, all the ones I have driven have seriously good handling. As always BMW has the better craftmanship, but the mustang doesn't look like no slouch. Plus it's cheaper. So I idk depends on what you want
