Is your sexuality just like any other choice?

Hard to say. I think a lot of the reason homosexuality is looked upon as vile or wrong in our society is because of the prominence and importance we give to the Mosaic Laws. If you look at ancient Greece, heterosexual unions had to be mandated as a form of population maintenance because of how widespread same-sex relationships were, and that was a simple difference of cultural perspective.

I'm not saying it's 100% choice, because studies that I've seen compel me to think otherwise, and I could never bring myself to have any sort of sexual contact with another man. I do, however, believe that it's at least somewhat an issue of social conformity that starts early in life. Again I'd point to the relatively casual stance of the Greek and Roman empires on homosexuality as supporting evidence. It was such a different world from ours.

It is not advisable to ignore your sexuality. Eventually, it comes out.

I don't think it's a conscious choice, you don't wake up one moring and say "I think I'll be gay today", it doesn't work like that, your still going to find women attractive and not men. There are studies that have been done, but they are all unreliable as they are done for agenda reasons and funded by special interest groups (this goes for both sides of the debate), there is no solid evidence one way or another to confirm that sexuality is a choice or born with.

In my personal opinion, I think it's due to a development process. It's what happens to you as you age and come into your sexuality, the brain is very complex, it's not really a "on" or "off" switch, it's like a turning of gears and wires. And this can become developed or wired to do different things, sometimes it can cause someone to develop homosexual feelings or identity.

I believe it's psychological, people who are searching for a gay gene will never find one, because it doens't exist. It can't, it is not evolutionary possible for a gay gene to have been passed down in humans. Also genes don't work like that, they can influence some things but there is no gene that profound or powerful to override someone's sexuality. There are straight women that went gay after their bad boy friends, conversely there have been some gay men who became straight.

Like I said, the brain is very complex and I think it's a developmental process that determines someone's sexuality. Not a concious choice and not a gene. But that doesn't matter, the important thing is that we treat gay people with respect and love and make sure they have equal rights like all of us, which is what God wants.

Homosexuality is definitely a choice. Personally, I chose to be gay shortly after choosing to be tall.

That doesnt make it different than any other choice. Only proves my point that either everything is a choice or everything is fate.

Anything from personal preference, to inner feelings/stirrings, to environmental surroundings, to peer pressure to dramatic life events/experiences can either determine or bias you toward a sexual preference and it can change over time or remain static forever.

What matters is that there are so many different factors that determine an individual's sexuality, both controllable and uncontrollable, that there shouldn't be any restrictions in society based on your sexual preference.

To assume any one reason for sexual preference is pure misinformed ignorance.

Why is such a complex issue here not sure if there is a yes or no answer for everybody.

I don't think the issue is black and white. There are those who are genetically wired to be either hetero or homo sexual, while there are others who, I believe anyway, have either learned or have chosen to live a hetero/homo/bisexual "lifestyle." Is it a clear-cut choice for all? No, but there are obviously some who do chose one way or another.

I never made a choice to my knowledge. I never sat down one day and went "Do I want to f*ck girls or guys?". When I hit sexual maturity I wanted to f*ck girls. Honestly if I did have a choice I would have chosen bi, cause the more the merrier, right? However I don't find the male body attractive at all. I can't imagine it's too different for gay dudes. I think it happens a lot less than we're led to believe (one source said 3.7% of inmates were raped and 10% had engaged in intercourse). That's still a high rate though. In my brief search I got the impression that a lot of times the prison staff is complacent about it, which leads me to think it has a lot to do with the attitude we take towards prisoners in general.
