You have to remember that is George Zimmerman's account about their exchange of words, and he could be lieing.

A witness told police he saw a man in a dark hoodie, and Martin was wearing a dark colored hoodie, on top of a man wearing a red jacket, and Zimmerman was wearing a red jacket. There is no way that he could have known what Zimmerman was going to tell the cops or even what the cops were putting in their report of their initial findings. His testimony in court corroborated what the cop wrote down and Zimmerman's claims.

In all reality, OJ is most likely guilty and Fuhrman didn't plant evidence. But at the time that damaging testimony that made him look like a racist, combined with the Rodney King situation being so recent made it hard for black people in Los Angeles to trust the police and probably aided in people doubting OJ's guilt at the time.
