Has anyone seen the latest South Park Episode dealing with Muhammed? Behold...

Here's a picture of Muhammed. I think it's clear that we live in an ever progressive world that has been rapidly becoming more and more secular. South Park seems to be pushing the few remaining borders. Clearly, it's going to get to a stage where nothing is offensive. Shock value will be nothing but a distant memory, but for now, we have Muhammed. The prophet of the Muslim faith has eluded media appearence until recently.

What do you think gamespot? Do you think it's time Religious ideology and rules should be kept to those of the faith or we must we all continue to bend over backwards in order to keep Muslims happy?

I'm not trying to spread hate, I'm merely curious.

Offending billions of people for the hell of it is not what I classify as an ever-progressive world. How bout this: We don't act like assclowns to people for the luls, and in return we don't freak out over the smallest detail when all one wants to do is inquire. There, everyone's happy, society progresses.

Here's my honest opinion.

If some Muslims come out of their way to riot, threaten and attack people just because they've been offended. They should be swiftly brought to justice and prosecuted.

Because personally I think if the exact scenario happened but with a pack of Jews/Atheists/Christians/Buddhists/Zionists/Satanists etc. did the above, they'd be swiftly brought to justice and prosecuted.

I was more upset how Comedy Central had to bleep just the name of Muhammad, cause they had no balls. They entirely bleeped a two minute long speech (just nothing but one loud annoying bleep) that Kyle had. It was spose to be a very a good speech also. The god-damn irony of censorship and free-speech from all of this in the middle of America was just baffling.

You are right, and its not just taboo there is an actual part of their religion which states that they are to be no visual representations of the Prophet Muhammad. At least, im pretty sure thats what it is. I have a very close friend who is muslim and we often discuss religion and politics but im not an expert on the subject or anything.

As far as answering TC, i think that if the directors/producers of South Park want to show Muhammad then they should be able. Sure, showing an image of Muhammad is against their beliefs but as any viewer of the show will tell you, South Park makes fun of everyone and disrespects everything. They have put plenty of things on their show that would make them go to hell in many many other religions. (Oh and im not trying to bad mouth South Park there, im a big fan of the show)

Not to mention in the US we have freedom of speech and freedom of religion. The muslims trying to stop Muhammad from appearing on South Park is, in a way, forcing their values and beliefs on the creators of South Park and to an extent on the rest of us. (I am willing to admit that that very well could be a huge stretch, but so be it).

Anyway, thats my two cents on the issue.

And censorship is pretty taboo for many Americans. Who should we side with? Seeing as the show was produced in America, and not a predominately Muslim nation, I'm going to go with south park on this one.

Censorship is taboo for many Americans? Is that why there's a public outcry whenever the latest up-and-coming starlet lets loose some side boob in public?

Anyway, I don't have a problem with showing the image; I have a problem with people who only want to show the image because people don't want the image to be seen. Attention seekers, essentially.

So nobody worships his image. The worshiping of Allah's image is extremely forbidden in Islam, and they were afraid that Muhammad would become worshiped like Jesus erroneously was if his image was presented.

If there is a context that Mohammad needs to be depicted in, then you should have the right to post it. If you are posting it with the sole intent to flaunt your right to post it, knowingly pissing off Muslims in the process, then you're just an inconsiderate jackass.

It's not a freedom of speech issue, as the order to censor the show came from Comedy Central, NOT the government. This is where everyone's getting confused regarding this issue.

You can't yell fire in a movie theater because it endangers safety. Threatening to kill those who offend you does make you an extremist. Watching southpark is optional, it isn't forceably broadcast into muslims homes on screens they can't turn off.

How is this different from calling Jews and Christians idiots for believing in a man who lives in the clowds and grants wishes? Or calling Tea Party members Tea Baggers? Or gange members a detriment to society?

I find the concept of censorship with the intent to avoid being offensive ridiculous. Some ideas/people who hold those ideals should be challenged. Sometimes being challenged involves someone being offended.

Yes, but surely you can agree that when there is a line to be drawn. You can only be "respectful" to such a degree that it doesn't have an impact on your life or your rights as a person.

Hmmm, never heard of that one (I'm Muslim myself) but interesting, also, Mohammad is to be the 'perfect' being, they don't want a painting/drawing/actor or anyone depicting him because they don't want that to represent him.

If you want the right to show a rendering of him then you must, by extension, grant Muslims the right to express that they have been offended. I do believe that people should be given the freedom to be highly offensive, but that those around them should similarly have the freedom to call them highly offensive.

This is really a lose-lose issue. Censoring Muhammad is regressive, and showing Muhammad is equally regressive. Last time I checked, neither censorship nor open mockery of a religious figure was a progressive idea.

Quiet-Key

Again, this was NEVER a question of censorship and free speech.

Look at the anti-Muslim reaction which resulted from ONE "death threat" being issued by Muslims ( with that "death threat" very possibly being legally protected free speech).

Suddenly, support for South Park explodes through the roof, we see a ****load of people itching tom hate on Islam because of their favorite show getting censored by ONE "death threat".

Make no mistake...if there are ANY winners here, it will be Comedy Central and the creators of South Park. Suddenly, one possibly-not-even "death threat" got blown up into "they're taking urr rights!"

We then see a HELL of a lot of people saying "yeah, **** the Muslims...as someone who values free speech, it's my duty to offend their entire religion just to show that I can."

In regards to "Let's Draw Mohammed Day", **** that. There was nothing stopping you from drawing mohammed before. It wasn't illegal, no one was going to murder your ass, and the only reason why we see so many people supporting that **** now is because now that "**** You, Muslims!" in becoming a general sentiment, it's all too easy for people do do this **** just because it's trendy.

South Park makes it trendy to offend an entire religion, the network recieves ONE "death threat" craps their pants, and suddenly this explodes into a paranoid balloon of fear in which the "terror" isn't you getting murdered, but is instead the "terror" of the Muslims taking away urr rights.

Publicity for the creators of South Park. Sure, Comedy Central migt end up looking bad to some people during this fiasco, which is likely countr-balanced by people having an added respect and interest in South Park.

Meanwhile, this just validated a lot of peoples' fears about the brown foreign people, when all signs point to this as being a mole hill selectively photographed in order to make it look as if it were a mountain.

Is it just me, or is the fact that an image of himself not being allowed elevates him to a level of Godhood in itself?

You're looking at it wrong, it's not that he's "Godlike" but he was portrayed as the perfect being, since no one in the world is currently perfect, nor is any drawing worthy of properly depicting him, they don't want anything false to represent him.

Somewhat on topic, but can anyone remember if Mohammed was depicted back when they did the original "Super Best Friends" episode? It's a pretty old one that might pre-date 9/11, which means hysteria about extremists reacting probably would have been low... just wondering :P

[QUOTE="meconate"]Comedy Central are cowards, they should've grown some balls and played the damn episode as it was intended to be shown. So much for freedom of speech...JustPlainLucas
It's not a freedom of speech issue, as the order to censor the show came from Comedy Central, NOT the government. This is where everyone's getting confused regarding this issue.

Exactly. Sure, they canair whatever the hell they want, but there are consequences. Not from the law,but from the thousands of offended extremists. Shouldtheytake that risk? Well, they've decided not to, and i respect that.

Seriously, from what i've seen, freedom of speech is so abused.Sure, it grants you the ability to say whatever the hell you want by law, but should you? There are other consequences. Do you go into the gay bar to announce how much you're against homosexuality just because you can? Because freedom of speech sure aint gonna stop them frompounding your face into a pulp.

Personally I think the only solution to the muhammed 'issue' is to ban anything which contains the word.

I remember that. And if you watch re-runs from pre-9/11, even today you can still catch him at the end of the theme. Funny how nobody notices that.

I noticed it too, I mean sure I was offended, seeing ALL these religious figures depicted like this, felt like it was a bit invading to others religions, but am I gonna threaten a life? no. I'll just save my thoughts in my happy place *runs to corner*
