*sigh*..we're not talking about realism...we're talking about intent....do you think Bouguereau created his pieces with the intent of making money off guys needing material to wax the carrot to?...having a child that goes into this or porn isn't a question about not appreaciating art or the human form...it's a question of your child having more respect for their body than to put it on display or for it to be used with the purpose of getting random people off.......Tell you what Omni: nevermind Bottticelli, how about Bouguereau?

[QUOTE="chaoscougar1"]If she knew anything about her religion, she would have known this would be a terrible ideaYellowOneKinobiI thought it's the religion of peace? Unless you do something that is opposed to the religion of peace, then you must die. It's a rather simply religion really.

There's a fair amount of eroticism to much of Bouguereau's work, so yeah, I think it's possibly that he was at least cognascant of the thought that some right be turned on by it.
I hate Muslims like the people giving her death threats so much.
Plus, I'm starting to think that those people aren't "extremists"... I'm starting to think that's just how their culture is over there... it's the norm.
People talk about how that isn't how the "true" Muslim religion is. That very well may be, but when everybody is acting like THAT, then the "true" Muslim religion is nothing more than a thought... it's not reality.

Every Muslim isn't acting like that any more so than every Christian is saying that evolution is the work of the Devil. It's just that the worst of any given group tend to make the most noise and get the most attention.

Of course. But either there are a TON more radical Muslims out there than radical Christians, or their religion is really like this. You can't go one day without hearing about some form of violence committed in the name of their religion. It's very sinful in Islam to do something like that, but even so, that doesn't give anyone the right to threaten her with violence. Those people giving threats ought to be ashamed of that, because two wrongs don't make a right.
I mentioned this on the first page and people still apperently think it's something about Islam.
Islam teaches muslim to dress modestly, it doesn't mention the killing of those that doesn't.
This IS ALL ABOUT CULTURE!
Middle eastern cultures are VERY CONSERVATIVE when it comes to sexuality. She knew what would happen and that her family cut off contact with her, instead of honour killing her, means she got off easy.
Because of course culture and religion are totally decoupledI mentioned this on the first page and people still apperently think it's something about Islam.

So an Indonesian muslim has the same culture as an Arab muslim?

Islam means submission, not peace. I don't know who thought it meant that. It's a peaceful religion yes, the Quran tells men and women to dress modestly. This is more inline with middle eastern culture (Turkey is part of the middle east too).
I sincerely doubt she's a muslim, no muslim woman would ever do such a thing.
The only person that knows her faith and what she believes is herself. Anything else is nothing more than speculation. There is no speculation, no Muslim, whether man or woman would pose naked or almost naked for a magazine.
It always amazes me how much hate is woven into religions, particularly the monotheistic religions. Also this tendency for, seemingly non-radical muslims wanting to kill anyone one goes against their beliefs does not look good at all. There are a lot a negative stereotypes faulting around about muslims and they are based on things like this.Diablo-BIt's a classic case of 'thats wrong because my religion says so'.

Actually, there are plenty of Christians throughout history that felt the same way. Hell, the Amish are just as conservative in the type of clothing htey allow women to wear, I don't see anyone criticizing them the same way people are criticizing the burka.
lol imagine that, theone bashing christians in an attempt to justfiy more radicalism from muslims.. I am shocked.

Religion is interwoven into middle eastern cultures (and most other cultures as well). For most cultures their religious beliefs is at the heart of their culture. The 2 are not mutually exclusive.[QUOTE="m25105"]

Everyone wouldn't go giving her death threats however many would probably disown her if she were their daughter.

Nope, I won't play your game.
In Denmark some years ago, some company (I don't know if it was a Danish company) launched beach sandals, with the picture of the blessed Mary. While most Danes where in general indifferent about it, Arab Chrisitans living in Denmark, protested. Quite loudly.
Take the prophet cartoons, boycots and major happened in the middle east, in Indonesia you didn't get much response. Indonesian is the country with the largest muslim population.

Agreed there.
Can't say I share wollocks' and thenone's views and enthusiasm on celebrating equal rights for women this way.
Here's a nice trade-off. Next time pro-life nutjobs firebomb a Planned Parenthood, or the Jewish Defense League preaches violence, OT must make a thread lambasting their respective religions as extremist and dangerous because obviously, just because we hear about the radical minority in the news, that means they are the norm.
Or, we could stop this irrational hatred of the entirety of the worlds 1.6 billion Muslim population, and instead focus on how we can stop radicalism of all kinds, including the very real problem of Radical Islam.
EDIT: And yes, I do realize that there are more Radical Muslims then in other religions, and they are more then willing to use violence to achieve their ends, but they are still minorities in the scheme of things.
She can do exactly as she pleases within the boundaries of German law. And since she stayed within those boundaries she did nothing wrong.
She doesn't need to be accountable to anyone but herself. If people don't like what she did then it's THEIR problem, not hers.
When will those fanatic people understand that they can only mess with their own lives? They have NO say over other people's lives.
Muslim men need to jerk it once in a while.
An orgasm could help their anger built up inside.
