"In Oakland alone, the Police Department said, the crowd grew from about 3,000 people at 7 p.m. to 6,000 an hour later. The situation grew tense late Wednesday, with SFGate.com reporting that a group of protesters had started small fires in the street and broken windows. Police officers in riot gear were called in, and at least one officer was injured, according to other local news reports." This sounds like a riot.

"One of the biggest demonstrations was in Los Angeles, where protesters burned a Trump effigy at City Hall and shut down a section of Highway 101. Law enforcement officials were called out to disperse the hundreds of people who swarmed across the multilane freeway." They ran across the freeway.

"More than 2,000 students at the University of California, Los Angeles (protested)... There were similar protests at the University of Southern California, in Los Angeles; University of California campuses in Berkeley, San Diego and Santa Barbara; Temple University, in Philadelphia; and the University of Massachusetts." At least California and Massachusetts legalized marijuana.

There are tons of videos and it does look like a riot. If I worked on one of those streets I wouldn't be able to get to work. Do you support the 'Not Our President' movement?

I'm not the kind of person to get behind a movement like that. But I can totally understand why people are doing it. The man who will be sworn in in January (?) is absolutely awful in every way.

Lol and these same people were "horrified" when Trump suggested he wouldn't accept the election results.

I actually think this is better than the possibility of what Trump supporters would have done if Trump didn't win and didn't accept the outcome if Hillary won.

Looking at the crowds and hearing their statements. It seems to be the same largely young demographics, behind all the recent riots and "peaceful protests". And I emphasize "peaceful", as there's apparently a very broad definition of what a peaceful protest is nowadays to these young and self entitled activists.

Now if this was Sanders that lost. It would be a bit easier to see how these crowds relate to Sanders. But this is Clinton were talking about. She was a far different candidate than Sanders. And shame on Chicago in particular. Clinton abandoned her birthplace a long time ago. To pretend she was a true New Yorker simply for a bigger political spotlight.

Unlike Trump these people actually checked to make sure they were correct about the results before freaking out.

They have every right to protest. Emotions are still running high and they need to blow off steam. Let em. Make all the noise they want.

Now, if they started vandalizing and wrecking the properties around them, they're going to get some teeth knocked off.

They have every right to protest. But when said protest leads to violence, vandalism and other laws being broken, I have a problem. Sadly, by the looks of it, it became rather problematic.

If I was american I would have voted for Hillary, but damn man. Be reasonable.

I have no idea how this can be a known thing. Is it just because you think of them as respectable? Trump had been telling people for weeks that it's rigged, and that he would only accept the outcome if he won. It wouldn't be surprising at all if they were protesting a loss given that context.
Hell people were discussing actual civil war if the elites kept screwing them.

Mostly in high blue voting states. It's interesting some burning US flags while flying socialist red flags or Mexican flags.

It's the second loss in our lifetime where the people were denied the person they voted for. Personally I kinda think it will only ever happen to democrats, I mean look at what Comey did, you think that was for the FBI or do you think it was a republican who hates Clinton?

There are more people going nuts over a superbowl game... Is this actually anything to be concerned about? How many will actually still be bitching and running around if a few small concessions are given? I just don't see the issue.

There would've been protests one way or the other.

Had Hillary won then Trump supporters would be out in the street in protest, it's to be expected when there's been such a large gap between the political parties and the voters, along with the animosity displayed from both parts during the campaigns. As much as people have said the nation is divided, the campaigns likely helped amplified it rather then narrowed the gap.

It has nothing to do with getting what you want.

Never mind the fact that this man is wholly unfit for the presidency on every level, women are going to lose a constitutional right, and millions of Americans, most of whom voted for Trump, are going to lose their healthcare coverage.

What constitutional right?

Sure been nice if you angry angry people would have been angry enough to actually nominate your own party representatives for the election then. I didn't see nearly enough democrats flipping shit about the super delegates and maybe if you had you might not of had your DNC "bullying" everyone not Clinton to drop out/not run.

Your votes didn't count for shit for everything up to his point, why the hell lose your cool now?

I totally agree with you. Sanders was the better candidate by far. He was leading Trump by higher margins in the polls. I was quite upset about that as well. The DNC really screwed us over this time.

I understand the anger but he won "fair and square".

besides, we had the last 8 years and they were pretty good, did we really think we'd get another 4/8 years? Rarely does it work that way. But Trump?....c'mon....

there are more constructive ways to protest. For starters, there are dozens of non-profits that are going to be losing funding that need support. A lot of art institutions will also be losing funding, they will need volunteers. Take all that rage all channel it towards something constructive, people, especially in place like San Francisco where Trump wants to cut federal funding.

Apparently you don't know how the electoral college system works. Trump got selected by the electoral college, not the rich elite. He didnt get more voter turnout than the past few republican candidates. lazy ass millenials ruined the election by not turning out in signficant numbers. Now we're stuck with this shithead. Good job on your generation. Maybe you can play some pokemon go while the country burns around you. and your conspiracy theories of the rich elite selecting trump.

The electoral college is there to make sure ALL states have at least some voice in the election process, without it presidential elections would always be decided by the 5 or 6 most populous states.

This says more about the people involved than it says about anything else. What is a public tantrum supposed to do anyway? The people have spoken, it's a done deal. These cry bab...err protesters are butthurt and too immature to deal with reality so they take to the streets on their unicorns with bags of pixie dust ...err mollie's because their mommies never spanked them as children.

I usually come to GS to watch fanboy meltdowns in the hype threads. Massive flops and wins...to think that I'm witnessing this in real life I have to say is fucking hilarious. People butthurt and having meltdowns...holy shit y'all just best accept it. Nobody saw protests like these when Obama won.

There has not been a Republican who got the votes from Democrats since Reagan.

I'm one of those people. I was Democrat, voted Trump.

Protests typically have a goal in mind. Something rational that can be reached. He won a democratic election fair and square. These were the same people, when the polls showed Hilary well ahead, were telling the Trump supporters to shut up and accept defeat. I dont want a Trump presidency, but he was elected, and will be the president. If I cannot act like an adult, and accept the outcome of an election I participated in, my opinions should not be taken seriously in the electorate in any case.

They didnt. Trump didnt get more votes than the last 2 republican challengers, Hillary just got far less votes than Obama did. Had the base come out, she would have won. Plain and simple.

That is depressing...

Depressing indeed. The American people didnt get who they voted for. We voted for Hillary, Hillary should be our President. Hes not who the American people voted for. We must let our voices be heard louder than ever. Trump and every person who helped him steal power will hear our roar.

Stand up dear Progressives, its your time to shine. We will support yall 100% in all yalls wishes. We will fight for yalls rights like never before. They shall hear us roar as we tear does these walls of oppression. Let it be known, Trump was not who we voted for. Hillary was the American peoples choice. May you never forget.

Yeah. I thought every voted counted. Guess not. 336,000 votes didn't count.
