That's just an accident, you conservatives need to stop hunting for crap. It's getting annoying. First the lipstick now this...Grow up.Toriko42
I actually hadn't watched the ad until now, and I was surprised to find that this is the exact quote from the ad:
"(John McCain) still doesn't know how to use a computer."
Not "can't", "doesn't know how to".
I'm pretty much 100% convinced now that people are just totally making crap up at which to get offended at this point. Forget the possibility of "lipstick on a pig" referring to Sarah Palin; saying that this is making fun of John McCain's physical disability is just a flat-out provable factual inaccuracy. That people would still push this interpretation of the ad's contents despite this fact is proof positive to me that people are much more interested in seeing Barack Obama lose than in the actual truth.
What does being disabled have to do with not knowing how to use a computer? I know people who are disabled and they have long since found ways to use a computer.

I don't see much use for a president who looks to manufacture some sort of controversy to play the wounded hero every chance he can.
Obama is a pretty cool guy.
He took Computer Science III and almost hacked ED. But, he couldn't find the IP so he only managed to slow the site down.
:(

We're talking about a man who called the woman running against him a pig.
*Sigh* How are people getting what he said wrong? If youre going to twist what people say, then McCain is also guilty of saying the same thing about Clinton. What do you think of your hero now? FYI, the pig is the Republican parties politics, the lipstick is Palin. He basically meant "you cant polish a turd".
both parties are throwing around absolute BS ads. it's not just limited to one side.

He doesn't know how because he isn't physically able to learn.
I never said the ad was making fun of people with disabilities. If anything, the ad is ageist, and the computer argument irrelevant to the election. What I was saying was that the ad backfired, because the Obama camp didn't do enough research to see that the reason for his lack of experience was because of injuries he suffered defending our nation.
At the very least, Obama should apologize.

Being physically disabled isn't really too much of an excuse for not knowing how to use a computer anymore as there are keyboards and keyboard substitutes for the disable.
And I'm confused. McCain can make a fist and clinch a mic, spread his fingers out, wager his index finger and shake hands but he wouldn't be able to use a keyboard? He could at least use a low-pressure or touchless and they've been around for a million years.

Why use those when he has Cindy to do it for him? He had his arms repeatedly broken by the Vietcong, give him some slack.
In case a few of you still don't understand why a disabled man might have difficulty with the computer, here's a quote from a 2000 Forbes story:
In certain ways, McCain was a natural Web candidate. Chairman of the Senate Telecommunications Subcommittee and regarded as the U.S. Senate's savviest technologist, McCain is an inveterate devotee of email. His nightly ritual is to read his email together with his wife, Cindy. The injuries he incurred as a Vietnam POW make it painful for McCain to type. Instead, he dictates responses that his wife types on a laptop. "She's a whiz on the keyboard, and I'm so laborious," McCain admits.

There is a difference from being physically impaired from using a computer, and mentally not knowing how to use one. That Senator McCain is not currently knowledgeable about basic mainstream technologies like computers and email is a relevant point towards his qualifications for the office of which he is seeking. It's like someone not being aware of the significance of the Industrial Revolution twenty years after it happened. Edit: Pointing out this lack of knowledge is also very different from making fun of a physical impairment.nocoolnamejim
You're totally misguided. You know that Presidents hardly ever use email anyway because of groups constantly trying to supena the info right? It was be silly for such important info to exist on computer networks. Computer are totally irrelevant to a president. In the case that tech knowledge is needed, you can believe there will be a specialist working with the President. This is just a silly attempt by a party who does horribly when on the defensive. For the past weeks, Obama's campaign has been getting beaten down and this is their equivalent of flailing wildly in desperation.

I don't need Obama to laugh this off and explain his meaning. He's explaining the literal meaning of his comments, while ignoring the obvious connotation of Governor Palin's recent "lipstick" comment.
Partially off-topic here but; McCain is criticized for being too old to be president, the American people (or electoral college if you want to get technical) decide who is going to be president.
So if we don't elect McCain, can he sue the American people for agism? Not electing him because of his age?
How about Obama? If he loses, can he get the EEOC to go after the public because he's black?
I, for one, will be scrawling Mickey Mouse's name across my voting ballot!

He wasn't even talking about her! Don't just think because he said "lipstick" and "pig" together he was talking about Palin. I recommend you people stop grasping at straws and start looking at the actual issues

[QUOTE="mysterylobster"][QUOTE="killtactics"]Why would he intentionally call a women a "pig"? Its an old saying that just a while back John MaCain used him self to describe Hillary Clintons policies.... Just like Obama was doing it to describe John MaCains....
GabuEx
As I said, the phrase itself isn't the problem, which is why there was no controversy when McCain used it. This is all about the proximity to Palin's own lipstick comment that turns this phrase into a nasty coded response.
Why would he do this? I don't understand Democrats' thinking all the time, but I do know that when they get stuck in a corner (and, yes, this Palin business has them sweating) they tend to go for the low blow. Remember four years ago when Kerry brought up Cheney's daughter during a debate? The point he was making didn't require him to drag the VP's daughter into it; he just wanted to say, 'hey look, Cheney's daughter isn't straight.'
Or, perhaps he wasn't calling Sarah Palin a pig, and this entire thing in one huge attempt at a manufactured scandal, one which even the McCain campaign has stopped attempting to use.
Most of the world has already migrated onto that option. At the very least you have to admit the possibility that Obama did not mean it in the way you think he did and that its meaning was not "clear", considering the number of people who don't believe Obama was calling her a pig.
This about covers it. The level of outright intellectual dishonesty with these latest two "scandals" being discussed in this thread is staggering.[QUOTE="Genetic_Code"]Why do people bring this up? First off, she has NEVER stated she does not believe in evolution. I believe evolution was a design and therefore I believe in both. Assumming all creationists disbelieve in evolution is stereotypical and ignorant. I wouldnt be surprised if leftist pundits like stewart knew this, but used it to add this stereotype into the mix with the gun toting racist redneck stereotypes. Their simpleton methods of attack through indoctrination are transparent. Also, she approved of an open debate between the 2. She has never called for creationism to actually be taught and yes evolution is a theory with a lot of sensible conclusions to back it.

Gun toting? I haven't seen her "toting" a gun yet. Oh thats right, it's just aggressive liberal jargon. Guess I should start calling Obama a baby slaughterer since he supports abortion after a baby is actually born. That pretty much negates the whole "when does life begin" debate.
She has never called for creationism to actually be taught and yes evolution is a theory with a lot of sensible conclusions to back it.

Actually, evolution is a whole bunch of theories, most of which disagree with each other. Scientists need to sort out this thing before they present it to our kids as fact. On the other hand creationism is just one simple idea: God created Heaven and Earth.
[QUOTE="Ezgam3r"]When talking from a teleprompter, no one can top him, true. But when he doen't have a teleprompter or notes, he thinks though what he's going to say, leading to the "uhs" which happens with many people (myself included). So I don't see the problem as it doesn't make him look like a calculator just punching out the answers like of you knew the questions beforehand.ChiliDragonIt's amazing that so few people seem to think that's why he does it... to me, that's the only explanation that makes sense. The man is very intelligent. Thoughts move faster than the spoken word, hence the "uh" while he mentally doubles back to make sure he's covered everything before moving on to the next point. I know several annoyingly smart people, and they all do it. The fact that they are way smarter than me is far more annoying than the "uhs".
I think this is also true of myself. When I'm speaking, it frustrates me how often I have to stop and re-think over what I was going to say--usually because I lost my train of thought. I think it's partly because when I begin to speak, I only have a vague idea of the later half of what I'm saying. Sometimes, I have no idea of what else I'm going to say. (It's amusing to note that my brothers are the same way. :D) So I wouldn't say it's a weakness for Obama to excessively use "uhs" and "umms" when he's not using a teleprompter. It's not a sure indicator of ignorance on a topic. It can also mean discomfort, a stalling tactic to re-collect your thoughts, and maybe a few other things. It can be very annoying, but it's hardly a relevant weakness for a president.
Now, on topic, I don't think McCain not knowing how to use a computer is quite relevant, either. As far as I know, a president doesn't need Internet access or e-mail to do his job, and I'm sure he would have advisers and specialists on those issues concerning security and computer technology. Frankly, I'm annoyed Obama would try to smear McCain on this. Has his inexperience with computers adversely affected his job as senator? I don't see how it would be much different as president.
He wasn't making fun of disabled people.
If everything people said about Obama was true, he'd be a Muslim, elitist, sexist, and he'd hate disabled people. Although I will admit, that's a bad error on Obama's part.

Sorry have to disagree on the importance of a President not being a computer expert. Also do we really know how much or little he knows about computers? Even if he didn't he has people that can handle this for him. Foreign policy, Economy, etc seems a little more important than being able to maintain a facebook page , agree?
It isn't about facebook pages. It's about understanding the mentality of the age we live in. Massive technology changes impact everything from how we process information to our frames of reference. McCain has stated he is "aware of the Internet" and is "learning to get on himself" but that he still doesn't know how to use email and just has his staff print them off for him. While I agree with you in general this isn't the BIGGEST issue out there, I'd certainly like our next president to be a little more up to date with technological advances than McCain seems to be.McCain said he knows how to text, but hasn't sent in email. He didn't say that he didn't know how to use it.
This is my take in the issue, no obama shouldn't have made the ad, it was a response to the McCain ad saying obama wants to teach 5 years olds sex-ed(not true)
But McCain can use keyboards for disabled people but Obama should have left it alone. But it wont harm the Obama campaign, Maybe it would be attacked on the Media but Palins crappy preformace at the interview and the Hurricane stopped people from taking notice.
Look both sides have made these types of ads, McCain more than Obama but they are still in the wrong.
I doubt Obama's goal was to make fun of McCain's disability. That certainly was a mistake on his campaign's part though.

Palin's hype may have died down a bit, but it has nothing to do with the interview. The interview was fine. Things have just settled. Obama will never get his momentum back. His campaign has seen it's glory days. I believe McCain's real glory days will come during the debates. That's the same tired rhetoric he's used from the beginning. You think the same ol nonsense is just going to suddenly energize him again? You live in a dream. Palin's hype has settled just because hype settles. It has nothing to do with the interview or silly nonsense that the desperate left dug up. What does McCain have to do to win? He just needs to continue to be himself and talk about issues like he has. You havent noticed how weak the Obama campaign has gotten? theyre in serious danger and youre too blind to even realize it.
Has Palin made you blind? McCain never talks about the issues, he only talks about spending and that hes against earmarks. The debates will settle the issue and In my eyes Obama will win
