All I know is that if Greg Stillson wins, we're all in trouble. That's a future that should scare all of you.
You really think he'll use those nukes? +100 for getting the reference. :)This topic is locked from further discussion.

You really think he'll use those nukes? +100 for getting the reference. :)You can't make this stuff up! There are reports there is a "Draft Bachmann" effort going on among the Conservative Republicans to put her in a leadership position. We'll see if buyer's remorse sets in quickly.

There is seriously going to be a schism in the Republican party now. Anybody denying it just isn't observing the facts. Hopefully this means what we've all been waiting for: a true multi-party system (if the Democratic Party divides as well).

I'm all for that, but that's probably not something Republicans want to take into consideration. :P

I really, really hope they refuse to do more than acknowledge her existence, let alone give her a position of any leadership whatsoever. People like her and Sarah Palin may very well break the Republican party. I greatly fear the consequences of that happening, because the Dems won't divide.

Well if my political calculus is up to snuff, a Republican civil war would cause the Democrats to rally and unify, HOWEVER, moderate Rockefeller Republicans are going to rear their heads. If they have spines, real spines, the Rockefellers are going to work with Democrats because they hold the Senate and the almighty Veto. That leaves them with access to bacon for their districts and if they can avoid getting primaried by tea party (Libertarians/Social Conservatives) wedge-issue candidates, records for re-election.
BTW speaking of Palin, I figured out how the Barbour and the boys could eliminate her: make her RNC Chairwoman (you know, Micheal Steele's position), give Steele a golden parachute. She'd bea fundraising monster for Republicans, but everybody knows, and I mean EVERYBODY, that Barack would crush her soul in a Presidential Election. Also, if she started throwing bombs int he primary, win or loose, it'll hurt the Republicans long term.
*sigh* We fought until the bloody end, but we're gonna loose Conway in KY :( Indiana has a Senate race?? *researches*Polls close in eastern Indiana and eastern Kentucky in two minutes.
And here... we... go.

Rand Paul has an insurmountable 61% of the vote!

Why haven't all the networks called it for Chandler!

We'll still have the Senate though. Also, President Obama has several historical strategies to deal with his adversaries, I'm in the middle of this article right now. We're in for a ride next election, but we have to see these results.

If the party were to split, I think that libertarians would eventually develop a hard time stomaching the tea party due to the social and neoconservative types similar to Palin, but that's just me. I would prefer a marriage of Goldwater conservatives and libertarians, but alas we are few. My money is that if the Republicans win a majority in one of the houses of congress, the ball is partly in their court and they have to do something with it. This, I think will encourage bipartisanship to some degree.
That actually wouldn't be too bad of a gig for Palin. It would keep her away from elections. On the other hand, she could theoretically polarize moderate voters. It would be damaging if she got the Republican ticket in 2012, and nothing short of disastrous if she got the ticket in 2016.
Rand Paul's lead is down to 56% in a matter of minutes! JACK CONWAY SURGE! At this rate, Conway will have 203% of the vote by midnight!

Some of us Chicago people were down in Kentucky "getting out the vote," if ya know what I mean. 8)

We're still at 1% of the vote counted. There's a reason why I'm not updating the maps in the second post in this thread until we get to at least 10% of the vote counted. :P

Bah Goldwater? Wasn't he socially conservative?
I'm just wondering who is going to buck up and lead the moderate Republicans...it ain't Snowe, she has no spine. And flip-floptastic 'I-was-never-a-maverick' McCain is definitely a no-go.I know Demint is going to be the Tea Party's champion, and very well maysteal McConnell'sgig as Minority Leader.
Over on the house side, if they were smart they'd elect Paul Ryan as Speaker if they take the House.

Socially conservative? Not at all, he probably wouldn't be endorsed by the Republican party today.
You do mention an interesting point. Those with the leadership capabilities and influence that the GOP needs happen to be complete pinheads. Paul Ryan would seem to be a fitting pick for the party, especially considering why people voted the Republicans in.

I hope Paul wins man. We need more balance right now. I'm no Republican, but one party rule is never a good thing.CNN called 4 races, all were 100% according to 538. Nothing exciting. Two republican holds (SC, and Kentucky), one gain (in Indiana), and one Democrat hold (Vermont)
Also, Democrats are pretty much getting owned in Indiana.
GabuEx
All thanks toEvan Bayh (sp?) who didn't even help by giving his campaign money to Democrats. Total turncoat traitor as what he does now is throw bombs at the Democrats from the sidelines. That's the problem with some conservative Democrats, they're Republicans under a blue flag
*sigh*
EDIT: According to the pundits Bayh could have successful carried Indiana. One of the bullet points on why I think he is just useless as a team player Democrat.
So Jim DeMint is the projected winner of the senate race in South Carolina. Surprised?Travo_basicActually I am since DeMint started the recession.

I'm not just talking about the Senate; Andre Carson (IN-7) is the only one right now not getting torn to shreds.
Also, with 15% of the vote in Rubio (R-FL) is up big.
Yeah, Crist had no chance against Rubio even in a two way battle. He served as a spoiler for Meek who I think could have made the race competitive against Rubio with the help of moderates. Meek was the complete opposite of a Jellyfish Democrat and he was level-headed enough to appeal to moderates. Too bad.
I am watching the election on BBC: "Americans are going to regret voting the Republicans in in two weeks". Really BBC? In two weeks? I don't think so.
Ohio called for the Republicans right off the bat.
GabuEx
No surprises there.
Gabu what site are you getting the results from? (I've been using NYT but they seem to be a bit slower updating).

Honestly a vote for Republicans at this point is a vote for gridlock at this point given their record. Politicians have to work together giving and taking from one another to get things done.
The buyer's remorse will come sooner than two weeks if it becomes apparent that the Establishment Republicans successfully make their new wing fall in line. The lobbyists will come, the debt ceiling will be increased, the Tea Party base will get pissed off at the politics as usual, elected Tea Party Republicans will stop caring about their constituents and more about their re-elections, which with Citizen United, any Tea Partier that goes lone wolf and acts on principle will be PRIMARIED out of his seat by a willing pawn.
