Personally the group demanding the boycott seems akin to groups like stormfront. Not to mention Idris Eldris is a good actor, and I am glad to see him play a non villian role for once.

This group probably has about 4 members, so I highly doubt it will affect the ticket sales of Thor.

Yes I really don't see this getting that big, but I also don't see this movie being extremmly popular.

Their racists, they're opinions don't matter. The sooner they realize that, the sooner they can stop getting butthurt about everything.

I don't mean this to be racist, but why is a black actor playing a Norse God? That's not racist to question the decision as it doesn't make sense and seems to just be a move to be inclusive just for inclusive sake.

I agree. I'm black and it's like making a Aquaman(love him) movie with Black Atlanteans. I'm huge fan of the character so that'd be weird/stupid. I didn't mind Michael Clark Duncan playing Kingpin in Daredevil because his body size matched the character, but it was something that everyone took notice to. So I could see why a black Norsegod would upset alot of people.

I guess because in the Marvel Universe they are not really Norse Gods, but being that inspired norse gods. But in the comics Heimdell is white.

True, but comics are ever expanding and if they followed norse mythology 100% the series would have died off ages ago.

I agree, I don't really understand the choice. I did for Daredevil because it would have been hard to find a good white actor that matched the body type.

are you serious?

The series has taken so many liberties with the mythology i dont see how skin color would matter any more..

i dont see how you can claim they are norse gods. The series is all over the place.

I get that but PC or not the ancient Norse and their Gods epitomized Arianism. Having a black actor or asian, etc. just doesn't make sense. That would be like casting a white actor for a Mohamed Ali movie. I'm aware Marvel is starting to get hyper PC these days but some moves are just absurd and it's not racist to point that out. IGN vilified the very questioning of the role and I don't think that's right either.

The only Black Aquaman charachter is his main villian Black Manta. And that dude has murdered babies and killed innocent people. Whats up with that a black man going up against the blond blue eyed king and killing his son...racist JK. Anyway maybe Idris was the best actor for this part, honestly he probably could play thor.

They epitomized Arianism? I'm sorry, but the only religion that epitimizes arianism is Hinduism. Secondly, if people can tolerate Christ being portrayed as a white man for hundreds of years, they can tolerate a stupid Marvel movie.

It's not going to stop me from seeing the movie or anything. And like I said, I'd have the same problem if a white guy was playing Ali in a boxing movie because it's incorrect to the actual source and it doesn't make sense.

What people are forgetting is the Asgardians(that is what they are in the comics, not norse gods) are beings born from another realm. Not gods of human folklore. They found our world(midguard) and introduced themselves. Thor met the vikings and they were inspired by him, but he did not like the things they did in his name so he left earth and did not return until his father sent him back. During his time gone the vikings used the image of the asgardians as their gods(considering it was their first experience with superbeings).

Since race alone is the issue here, it's irrelevant weather or not it would have been a "stretch." The fact is he was played by someone of a different race than the historical man actually was.

There are alot of inconsistencies in norse mythos, loki for example gives birth to a snake and something else.

If having a black portray a norse God but had no problem with morgan freeman in bruce almighty then perehaps you are racist then perhaps you are not:P

That's because many artists have depicted Jesus as white throughout the ages. Unlike Thor.

I think Idris Elba is a pretty good actor. You probably don't know too much about him because he's played in a lot of Tyler Perry movies who in my opinion is probably the most underrated director right now imo.

He would have looked more middle-eastern, but yes essientally. The Jews were able to travel and integrate within Europe without anyone overtly noticing their heritage.

Again what race do you think he was? At the time the middle east was largely greek and Roman, not as it is today.

When I first heard he was mantas son I really wanted to read, but I am so out of the loop with DC and this whole brightest day thing. But my post was mainly a joke.

Yeah I know... from the BP sig I know you're a Marvel, I'm a DC(well not really I'm just an Aqua-fan). Brightest Day is cool but you'd have to read Blackest Night first... Only marvel book I read was Doctor Voodoo(for obvious reason), but I was thinking of reading Namor since DC has Aquaman stuck in Brightest Day til next year...

No, but Cesare Borgia was.

Again what race do you think he was? At the time the middle east was largely greek and Roman, not as it is today.

Do you have a source for this? The general population was by no means of Roman descent.

He would have looked more middle-eastern, but yes essientally. The Jews were able to travel and integrate within Europe without anyone overtly noticing their heritage.

but arent middle easterns caucasians ?

No it was Greek and ruled by the Romans

EDIT the Greeks has colonised cities all over the mediterranean, and were often in conflict with other groups, mainly persian, who are also an Ayrian people.

Forgive all my spelling mistakes working and typing!

Again, this is not true. Though it was technically part of the Hellenic world, the population was not "Greek" in the ethnic sense. We are of course referring to the Galileans, of which Jesus was descended. They had mostly modern day middle-eastern racial features.

I think it is alright if he is black, but for other movies reactions are different. With the Last Airbender, the developers were racist, because the characters weren't the ethnicity they were supposed to be. Now with a Norse god portrayed by a black man; those opposing the idea are racist.
