[QUOTE="gamerguru100"][QUOTE="Chris_Williams"] if you want to get technical about it, people depict Gods in their image, oh since we're talking about greek mythology some of zeus's kids were african "go look it up" also Gods can take the form of anything they want white or black or anything. So this whole thing is pretty pointless in my opinion. the guy probably has like 3 mins of camera time and everyone is crying about it cause he's black. Come on, you don't see ANYTHING wrong with that? Chris_Williams
If he's a minor character, then there shouldn't be a problem. But if the character is major, I think it would be appropriate for the character to be of European descent....what? so because he's black he can't depict a major character thats based of a comic book? The movie isn't called Norse deity, you know what, i'm not even going to argue with this, the movie is going to be a blockbuster and thanks to all you guys Idris Elba is going to get some attention for this. I just don't see the big deal here, so what a black character is playing a greek god, oooooh, who cares.
It does seem a bit strange to me that a character derived from a type of mythology that was prominent in (as far as I know, correct me if I'm wrong) an almost entirely caucasian population, all depictions of whom are (again, to the best of my knowledge) white, would be portrayed by a black actor. It just seems like an inconcsistency to me, the same way it would seems if you got a white actor to play a Hindu god or an Ethiopian god. It's not going to ruin the movie for me and I see no reason to boycott it, it just seems strange is all. And you're right, a god could coneivably take any form, but one of the rules of consistency in cinema is not to have the audience thinking so much about something that isn't central to the story or the characters.
