http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2095549/Right-wingers-intelligent-left-wingers-says-controversial-study--conservative-politics-lead-people-racist.html

Here are some facts.

  • Children with low intelligence grow up to be prejudiced
  • Right-wing views make the less intelligent feel 'safe'
  • Analysis of more than 15,000 people

Right-wingers tend to be less intelligent than left-wingers, and people with low childhood intelligence tend to grow up to have racist and anti-gay views, says a controversial new study.

Conservative politics work almost as a 'gateway' into prejudice against others, say the Canadian academics. The paper analysed large UK studies which compared childhood intelligence with political views in adulthood across more than 15,000 people. The authors claim that people with low intelligence gravitate towards right-wing views because they make them feel safe.

Crucially, people's educational level is not what determines whether they are racist or not - it's innate intelligence, according to the academics.

similar studies have been made around the world, all supporting the data presented in the OP, just from different statistical angles, so i'm not surprised

Well, there is the fact that conservatives are less open to new thought patterns.

THE_DRUGGIE

People of lower intelligence tend to be like that too. It's hardly surprising, the lower your mental capacity, the lower the chance you'll actually stop to qiestion your views.

It does apply to other political groups too, but more conservatism, if we're talking about social conservatism.

Not buying this propaganda. I have seen Liberals just as stupid. BTW, I am a moderate that leans left on most things. I just see that both ends have valid ideas.

Anybody could have told you this. There is no logic in being anti-gay or racist at all and it is almost always linked to religious beliefs. This is why I have an incredibly hard time respecting the intelligence of the religious because they are so blind to their own beliefs that they refuse to think for themselves and as a result have their religion think for them. They hide behind the bible and god as reasons for not wanting gay-marriage, they hide behind the bible and god when they are presented scientifical evidence that contradicts their beliefs, they hide behind the bible and god when something bad happens in their lives, do you see the pattern? These are weak minded people who are unwilling to think for themselves. Now don't get me wrong, I have no problem with people who want to believe in god, they are free to believe whatever they want, but it's the people who try and present evidence for their god, the people who tell you that you are going to burn for an enternity simply because you don't believe what they beleive, the people who are so f***cking far gone on the intelligence scale that it's not even worth trying anymore with them, those are the people I have a problem with. It just so happens that most of these people cling to the political side that conforms with their beliefs the most. The study is accurate and it's not the first study to say the same thing and is far from liberal "propaganda"

Considering most politicians in power are pretty right-wing, I'd say if they aren't as intelligent, they're certainly as cunning, if not moreso.

You realize the type of people who typically conduct these studies lean left most of the time? Besides, these types of social studies typically have such a broad definition of "racism" or "homophobic" or "sexist" that it could literally include almost anyone. I have seen these studies done by political sciences and psychologists, and when you look deep you can usually find several flaws in how they measure things in order to make it biased toward what they believe. I say both far right and far left people are morons. That being said, in my life I have to say left wingers are typically the less intelligent whereas businessmen and people who are successful tend to lean right.

Actually the fact you believe this prove liberals are bigger idiots than anyone thought. I can probably find a study to prove any point I want to make, they are a dime a dozen.

ROFL.......

New Study shows Liberals have a lower average IQ thanConservatives- HARVARD

The study was conducted on 100,000 registered voters in 40 different states over the last twelve years, and has concluded its results.
The first part of the study lists the correlation between political beliefs and intelligence. Subjects of the study were chosen at random and requested to come to an unmarked van to take a test and answer some questions for a reasonable amount of money.
Of the 100,000 people, there were people from many doctrines, from conservative to liberal to marxist to fascist. Socialists came out on bottom, with an average IQ of 87. The second worst were Liberals and then Marxists, with 88 and 89 respectively. Conservatives received an average score of 110, which is significantly above average. However, the conservatives did not score the highest. The holder of second place were Communists with an average I.Q of 115, and the first place was apolitical people who did not follow any specific doctrine, who received a whopping score on average of 135.

Why do I have to read anything more carefully? These so called studies are all ridiculous anyway, and idiots like Tenaka use them as an "I win" button so they don't have to really debate on OT......which is laughable. I am not going to spend time reading through these "more carefully", got better things to do.

The only people who are less intelligent than everyone else are whoever takes that article even remotely serious.

The only people who are more intelligent than everyone else are the people who don't buy into this "right wing/left wing" bullsh*t and think for themselves, rather than let a label dictate the majority of their political views/votes.

I can definitely say not every right-winger is going to be stupider (because that's subjective, and they could be smarter than other people at other things) than any left-winger, but I guess basing your life off a book has its consequences lol.

Republicans are better at sex.[QUOTE="Funky_Llama"]no surprise there. inb4 all the right-wingers dismiss it on no grounds whatsoever

Atleast they do not rage and demand the topic shut down and allow opinions they do not like. Liberals froth at the mouth when offended explaining why they are always taking others off the air because they are offended.

Why do I have to read anything more carefully? These so called studies are all ridiculous anyway, and idiots like Tenaka use them as an "I win" button so they don't have to really debate on OT......which is laughable. I am not going to spend time reading through these "more carefully", got better things to do.

Do not stress it, studies show that we are better at sex. http://www.indianexpress.com/news/republicans-have-better-sex-than-democrats-survey/907913/ Maybe that is why they are smarter, to over compensate?

Eating several eggs a day is bad for you, says study. Men are more intelligent than women, says study. There are lies, damned lies, and statistics, said Benjamin Disraeli.

1: The article you are posting is a poll, not a scientific study.

2: Who cares about the connection between political affiliation and sex? If a whole bunch of Democrats swtiched sides, their sex lives wouldn't completely change.

Now consider that the mainstream self-proclaimed righties and lefties in the US are barely different on any issues and you have a conundrum.

even if i do aprtially agree with what the study says, i wouldn't believe it from a study, those "studies" are biased as hell.

What the hell is wrong with this website? I've tried to reply to someone else THREE TIMES and the only thing that happened EVERY TIME was that my text was replaced with the original three-tier quotation I was replying to. :|

Anyway, it's hilarious how people are trying to refute the article. It only concludes by saying that the AVERAGE conservative has a lower IQ than the AVERAGE liberal. It does not at all claim, and in fact it outright points this out in the article (so here's some evidence that a lot of "conservative" people in fact frothed at the mouth and didn't think clearly enough to consider even a skim-over, as evidenced by the guy who posted the Harvard study  ) that any conservatives you meet will be stupider than any liberals you meet, so all your anecdotes about liberals being "dumber" in your experiences are completely goddamn worthless and utterly irrelevant, and in no way lead to the conclusion that the study is false.

Bloody idiots, if you want to refute a claim that your "side" is stupider then don't do it in a way that proves you have no understanding of statistical analyses or even the concept of reading to get enough information to form an opinion.

I already knew that.

Also, our Conservatives are much different to American ones; I have no idea why they compared them.

Also again, Ed Miliband sucks.
