You have the audacity to tell me what I was referring to? Libertarianism is not right wing. There are certain aspect that are right wing such has the support of limited government and free markets. However, on many social issues Libertarianism is much more aligned with left wing ideology.

No, it's much more aligned with the 'states rights conservative'. Which is right wing ideology.

The point is that this thread is focusing on social issues primarily and how conservatives (right wing) oppose things such as gay rights. This is very contradictory to libertarian belief. In the U.S. right wing, conservative, and republican are all mostly identical terms.

Yes, and they also oppose what the Supreme Court says on social issues, ergo they're states rights conservatives in which qualifies as right wing ideology.

You're misunderstanding my point. In the United States, when people refer to right wing, they are referring to Republicans. That is the convention of the media, politicians, and political commentators. Libertarians are not equivalent to Republicans.

I never said that. I refuted your stance that libertarians agree with left wing ideology on social issues when they largely agree with right wing ideology.

.. Can't say I am surprised when we have popular candidates of the party calling Obama a snob becuase he wants people to have the ability to go to college.. Or a large portion of the base seems to be anti intellectual when it comes to things like accepting the Theory of Evolution.. Something a large portion of the Republican party including politicians in office seem to disagree on.. Or the fact that many of them seem to be behind in social issues like women's rights.. Hell I remember when Romney was the only candidate early on saying he wouldn't care about having a Muslim in his cabinet because it wasn't a important classification.. The crowd and the other candidates attacked him for saying that..
Conservatism always provided people with a sense of safety from any change in policy by progressives. It only makes sense that the less intelligent fear the unknown instead of making discoveries and contributing to progress.Mafiree
Stalin brought progress...... Progress isn't always great

And Russia was a better place because of it. If not for his purges and forced industrialization(particularly in the caucasus), the USSR would have been quickly overwhelmed by German forces in World War 2.

Well the dumbest poster on here (atleast OT) I have seen is either Banjo (who is pretty liberal) or another liberal. That is more do to there being much more liberals on this site as a group to draw from thus increasing the chances. There are dumb users who are liberal and those that are conservative.HubbaHax

Banjo is a troll tho. He's trying to be dumb on purpose.

That being said, all Banjo alt accounts should be banned upon registration. He's such a cancer to OT.

Are you even remotely familiar with the history of libertarian thought?
Why am I even asking of course not
Vuurk, sorry to tell you, but Sun_Tzu is right. You were referring to the right wing.

Libertarianism, at least in the American respect of the term, is right wing. That is not to say that it isn't distinct from conservative, which it is. That said, your brand of libertarianism is a mixture of states' rights paleoconservatism coupled with traditional right libertarianism.

The fact that you're attempting to classify me into a political party without knowing my ideology on many things. Vuurk

He did no such thing. Re-read what he actually said and don't get so defensive.

The fact that you're attempting to classify me into a political party without knowing my ideology on many things.

1. I didn't classify you by party, but political ideology

2. You have described a large number of political opinions on this site, more than enough to paint a broad picture WRT libertarianism, states' rights, abortion, etc.

Oh, who the fvck am I kidding? Your economic views are too unique to be labeled, your political philosophy too nuanced to be summarized, your internal passions are more powerful than words. You are just as beautiful as a little snowflake gracefully easing through our rapidly warming atmosphere, different from all the rest, save for the fact that you are a hexagonal prism comprised of H2O like the rest all the god damned snowflakes. Face it: if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, waddles like a duck, worships ducks, it's a fvcking duck.

Eh more or less yes that is exactly what he did.

No, you're just making sh*t up and playing the victim. I mean come on, Sun points out the basic idea of Libertarianism with respect to a political spectrum and you accuse him of disagreeing with everything just because you say it. Despite him being factually correct.

Well I do not know about that, there are many conservatives and liberals who are more intelligent than myself. I do not view politics as influencing ones intelligence.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2095549/Right-wingers-intelligent-left-wingers-says-controversial-study--conservative-politics-lead-people-racist.html

Here are some facts.

 • Children with low intelligence grow up to be prejudiced
 • Right-wing views make the less intelligent feel 'safe'
 • Analysis of more than 15,000 people

Right-wingers tend to be less intelligent than left-wingers, and people with low childhood intelligence tend to grow up to have racist and anti-gay views, says a controversial new study.

Conservative politics work almost as a 'gateway' into prejudice against others, say the Canadian academics. The paper analysed large UK studies which compared childhood intelligence with political views in adulthood across more than 15,000 people. The authors claim that people with low intelligence gravitate towards right-wing views because they make them feel safe.

Crucially, people's educational level is not what determines whether they are racist or not - it's innate intelligence, according to the academics.

tenaka2

You realize the type of people who typically conduct these studies lean left most of the time? Besides, these types of social studies typically have such a broad definition of "racism" or "homophobic" or "sexist" that it could literally include almost anyone. I have seen these studies done by political sciences and psychologists, and when you look deep you can usually find several flaws in how they measure things in order to make it biased toward what they believe. I say both far right and far left people are morons. That being said, in my life I have to say left wingers are typically the less intelligent whereas businessmen and people who are successful tend to lean right.

You don't seem to realise what an Ad Hominem is.

Why don't you go ahead and point out my ad hominem.
