http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_lesbian_prom_date#mwpphu-container wtf is this? School officials are some of the dumbest people i've ever read about. Not just for this case but for every ****ing thing. I could go on and on with stories but just go to google and type in "student(s) suspended for... and you'll get all kinds of examples of why school officials probably use the least common sense out of any profession out there. I feel so bad for her and generally the students at the school.

Being gay or lesbian is not a call for attention. If anyone is seeking attention, it's the overreaction (saying the very least, in the most generous way) of the school board that is it.

I won't say that homosexuality is a normal thing but it is still healthy in the sense that you are being yourself and not lying to everyone else about it just to fit in.

true fact. why couldnt this girl have just worn a dress with her significant other? but noooo, she had to violate dress code regulations and dress up as a guy, and get prom cancelled for EVERYONE. she got exactly what she wanted, and its too bad everyone else in her class had to miss out on prom because of it.

Yeah, why does a person feel neccessary to dress how they want. All the heterosexuals do it all the time without any second thoughts.

High School officials are a complete joke. They pretend their job is serious yet they either abuse it or don't know how to handle it. Disregard whatever they do entirely, it's never the right decision.

What I want to know is why someone wants to pretend to be gay just to get attention. There's plenty of other ways to get detention. Like coming to school dressed up like a circus clown or slapping the principle in front of a bunch of people.

Its hard to distinguish one from the other at such a young age. Young people dont know what they themselves are all about, and thats what college is for. ;)

while, i know there are dress codes, but sometimes they are far behind the times. that was more of a general statement, rather than to this case. But for this case, I just think they are overreacting with banning women from wearing tuxedos, especially since they are not as male exclusive as they once were. I also agree I didn't really think all the way through with the previous statement

Straight people don't have "Straight Pride parades" because their is no ill-conceived notions that heterosexuality is "wrong", "evil", "immoral". It comes from a time where it was basically illegal to be gay.

Guys do all kinds of crap for attention too. By your criterias, highschool guys are fake too. Also, seeking attention isn't a bad thing, whether or not it is appropriate is completely circumstantial and it is also a very human thing to do. Most of us, if not all of us are guilty of seeking attention at one time in our lives. One of the reasons you might find the number of apparent homosexuals and bisexuals to drop when these kids enter adult society, could be that as young adult, you have a tendency to experiment, and to test the limits of your enviroment. It doesen't really all have to be about getting attention, it can just as well be a process instigated by a desire to explore yourself and who you are, identity wise.
