wow what the hell? 5 years in jail for killing some cat? call me whatever you want, but thats the stupidest thing i've ever heard. these 5 HUMAN BEINGS actually have the ability to contribute to society, & they have families & friends that worry about them. so now they're going to jail, and possibly get raped & abused for making ONE mistake in life? seriously.. WTF is the world coming too. we're putting cats above humans now?
sure, the cat didn't deserve it, but we ALL do stupid things. from smoking pot to getting into fights, to having sex with our bestfriend's girl. is that reason enough to condemn these young men to prison? seriously, some of you guys make me sick.. one of you actually said they deserve 10 years..? WTF? do you know what prison is LIKE?
PEOPLE MAKE MISTAKES.

Maybe you do. Personally, I haven't, nor will I ever, do any of those things. And I will certainly not find myself torturing another living thing for pleasure. Human beings who get a thrill from breaking into peoples' homes and torturing animals will not contribute to society unless they resolve those issues. In fact, humans who get a thrill from breaking into peoples' homes and torturing animals as youths generally end up in prison later in life, having commited a violent crime or crimes against people. You reap what you sow. Breaking into the house and the vandalism alone was enough to warrant prison time. Torturing the cat - that completely seals the deal. These kids are disturbed, and society must be protected from them, which is exactly what jail and psychological assistance is for.
You need both if these boys are ever going to be the functional members of society you think they will be. You need them to face the consequences of their decisions, and you need to get them psychological assistance. If they respond well to this assistance and are deemed to no longer be a threat to society, they will probably be paroled. If not, they must stay behind bars.
They didn't make a mistake. If they thought it was a mistake, they would have taken the cat out long before it died. It was screaming in agony for 10 minutes. 10 MINUTES is long enough to realize that something is suffering and that what you are doing is ***** up. If you DON'T realize that within 10 minutes, it is NOT a mistake - it is intentional and malicious. And that is confirmed by the messages they left for the owners after doing the deed.
This isn't about putting cats ahead of people. It's about recognizing that any person who is capable of doing what these boys did to the cat is a danger to society, and that danger must be eliminated within reason.
