Money has nothing to do with it.
The fact you can set up a similar trade for porn is meaningless.
Yes...and your point? They made an idea and expressed it, and people respond. Different people will respond in different ways, some will like it, some will agree, some will disagree, some will get angry, some will see it as silly, ect, ect. That doesn't change or diminish what the statement is. It still stands.
dnuggs40
Of course it does....losing money is not bright.
No..it's not meaningless....it means people will give you what you ask for to get free porn. It means they DON'T have to agree with your statement to get the free porn. Understand NOW?
They made their statement...and they ASSUME they get the bible due to agreement. To say absolutely that is why they are getting bibles is naive.:)
[QUOTE="EboyLOL"]I wonder how many kids care about the "symbolism" of trading a bible for pornography... using a google search engine isn't the most difficult thing in the world...dnuggs40
It's obviously not directed at kids...
Alright, let me rephrase that:I wonder how many adults care about the "symbolism" of trading a bible for pornography... using a google search engine isn't the most difficult thing in the world... of course, adults should be able to aqcuire pornography over the internet.
"In my opinion, there are no atheists. There are fools," Pastor Rick Hawkins of UTSA's Family Praise Center said. "So, that would be foolish propaganda. I don't know one believer that would take his Bible and turn it in for pornography."
St. Matthew 5:22 "but whosoever shall say, thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire." :| :|

Who ever said every single person has to agree with the intent? That has nothing to do with anything. I really have no idea what your point even is.Is a requirementof makinga statement that everyone agree and/or particpates in only the manner you intended? I really think you are stuck in your thought process...this stuff is pretty simple.
"and they ASSUME they get the bible due to agreement"
What agreement? A few kids are making a statement about religion, thats it. Some will participate with this in mind, some will just get free porn, some won't even participate, some will get angry., but it doesn't matter. They are making a statement, and the statement stands as-is.
I think you just disagree with what they are doing and just reaching way to hard. I really don't even know what your point is. Are you saying they have no point becuase some might be just getting porn for the heck of it?

No...they THINK they are making a point. But if the reason you get bibles is NOT the reason you want...you fail. Plain and simple. What they want to do is CONVERT to their cause....but if you don't succeed in converting then you are not successful. Have not made a statement of any merit. And lost money as well.
Never assume......I don't care in the least about what they are doing. I look at it independently and see is as naive, foolish, costly...etc.
Of course they don't have to agree with whatever point they want to proove, and im sure they realised that as well, but that's not what matter to them, they probably could careless the reason behind why the person want to trade bibles for porn.Of course it does....losing money is not bright.

Of course they want agreement....or they wouldn't have set the program up.
This is about a few students (not kids) who are making a statement, sticking it to the church, religion, and the subsequent devotees. To them, it's not about the money. It's about the statement. Whether or not the participants are in it for the porn or the statement is quite frankly, irrelevant. They still further the statement.
I don't think that there would be many people who would exchange dictionaries in return for porn. They would probably buy the porn directly...or get it from the internet for free. Why? Because exchanging a dictionary for porn does not have the same effect, the poeticly beautiful spitefulness that the former exchange has.

lol...ok LJ...whatever you say. Again with the "ownage" and "you fail" stuff again. I can see where this is going, and I will end it here. You are missing the point entirely (as already pointed out by 3 other people) and really have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. They made a statement...thats it. Regardless of how effective it was is an entirely different issue all together. But seeing how you are now is "ownage" mode, I will have to end this conversation, and let you believe whatever you want to.
"I don't care in the least about what they are doing. I look at it independently and see is as naive, foolish, costly...etc. "
You and I know that is not true. You looked at it from a Christian perspective, and have gotten defensive, like every other thread that "attacks" religion. Please..."independently"...anybody actually buy this?

One...I haven't used the word own or ownage. You mentioned ownage....that makes it self ownage dude.
Two...you are missing the point. I don't believe they are getting the response for the reasons they think. That would mean their attempt on converting people to their beliefs is a failure. They didn't do this because it didn't matter to them.
Three....I don't care what anyone believes. I'm only responsible for myself. So yes, in assuming I care about their beliefs makes you WRONG.

Agreement? What agreement? Agreement that said if I you trade your bible for porn you'll became an atheist? They're not that dumb. In this case they see the bibble as "polution" among the communites.... You know its sama like "Money for Guns" program in Australia.. The police didn't expect anything more from the person that hand in their weapon to therm, wether they going to acquire another weapon in distant future is another problem... Now the point is they did hand in their weapon and that what's count, same thing in the case.[QUOTE="Panzer-schreck"]This is about a few students (not kids) who are making a statement, sticking it to the church, religion, and the subsequent devotees. I never said anything remotely like that, but there is an element of beauty in spite. Intolerance isn't even part of this. And this is a small sample of a few students - and me (and others) who find this to be absolutely brilliant.
Not all atheists are like that. In fact, you probably couldn't tell the difference between an atheist and a theist in passing conversation. And that is WAY offtopic and WAY out of bounds LJS...

I agree it was brilliant. Here we are on a web site that has absolutely nothing to do with religion, yet we are discussing it. I think they accomplished EXACTLY what they set out to do. If it was so pointless, why are we even discussing it? Obviously contraversy is what they tried to create...and wala!...here it is :P

"We consider the bible to be a very negative force in the history of the world," student Ryan Walker said. Walker is part of a student group that calls itself the Atheist Agenda.
Club members this week posted fliers promoting what they call the "Smut for Smut" campaign, then set up a table in the student union to collect religious materials and pass out adult magazines such as Black Label and Playboy.
Now...show me tolerance of a belief that they don't have. And I made no personal judgment on atheists....that's the impression I was given from your post. Which is why I used a question mark.
I have no problem with atheists....unless, they are intolerant.;)
Doesn't matter what they're trying to prove, it's wrong.--Wolf--
How is it wrong? The bible is just a bunch of words on paper glued to a binding. Most things in the bible are not even relevent to todays more realistic society, why do you think they keep making new ones?

There was no intolerance. What they said was fact. The Bible spawns hate for gays/lesbians (leviticus). The bible spawns plenty of it's own intolerance in the OT. The Bible was the source of the crusades and other holy wars. I know that religion in general causes wars and tension, but in general, the Bible has been a negative force. Especially the continued acceptance of leviticus, which has caused a lack of gay rights in America and tremendous hate/intolerance (Fred Phelps, anyone?)

Yes, I didn't see any intolerance either. They said they think the bible is a negative force, not that they do not accept people who read it.
in·tol·er·ance
nounDefinition:1.refusal to accept differences:unwillingness or refusal to accept people who are different from you, or views, beliefs, or life**** that differ from your own
They did not say they hate or do not accept the people who read the bible, just simply they believe the bible is a negative force. That's an opinion on a book, NOT hatred for the people who read it.

Ah....orientation. Well....those who use the bible to foster intolerance are intolerant without the bible....if that makes sense to you. As far as the NT....it clearly says to love everyone. Wars...including the crusades are generally about greed when it all comes down to it. The crusades were more about land than promoting religion.

My answer would be the people....What they want to do in their spare time, they can do. I'm not phased by people with too much time on their hands.ElZilcho90
Well considering they are students at a very good school, I doubt this is a case of people with too much time on their hands. Rather, this appears to be young ideological people who are trying to participate in national discussion and to generate controversy and debate. I would imagine these students are creative and smart, and have a bright future ahead of them.
google sucks. has anyone here actually tried looking for porn on google??? It's just one giant maze!! Even if you do find a good site, you have to pay for the decent pictures.
And besides that...it's all...fake....I can't enjoy it if I know it's fake...the girls in porn always look like they're enjoying it too much. I mean they usually have a smile on their face. That's unnatural!!
