http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2010/07/23/tennessee-republican-floats-secession/?fbid=94a0bnZb7YB So this is the 2nd republican to say his state should secede from the US because of the healthcare law along with Texas Governor Rick Perry.. Didnt these same republicans call americans unpatriotic for being against the war in iraq? A war built on lies and has cost thousands of lives. BTW i NEVER remember hearing ANY democrat go this far as to threaten seccesion because of Bush. This is getting ridicoulous

it's not loading, but he's just a candidate you say? Meaning he has yet to receive any power? I'm gonna say that guy is an idiot in that case. That's no way to get elected.

At least Texas is not surrounded by other US states; how would the secession of Tennessee even work?

Not being funny or trying to be nasty or anything, but what you said was kind of stupid. Plenty of countries in the World are surrounded by other countries. It wouldn't be any different for Tennessee, they'd just be surrounded by one country.

I think he means since Tennessee is surrounded, they can't trade or defend their borders since they're surrounded by their enemy. Texas is the only state that has the highest chance of success aganist the U.S. Even then, it's damn near impossible.

The Federal Government is failing to do their job.

It's time for the states to have enough.

Too bad they can't legally do it. I'm surprised the Founding Fathers didn't add a provision in the Constitution that would have permitted states to do as such.

Ah the South. Central to rational thought in the United States. Somehow I don't think he's going to get the states approval for this. Or could it be the fact that a large portion of our insurance companies come from the South? Hmmm...

Its funny that all of these tea party red states receive more federal money than they pay. Most of the blue states pick up the tab for these crazies in the south and in flyover country.

Hmm...a completely landlocked state seceding. Well if they could convince North Carolina or Georgia to go along with the affair, they'd at least have access to the sea...but they'd still get pwnt by the US navy...I think Tennessee is SOL on this one.

We still have the largest economy BY FAR and our national debt relative our GDP is still pretty low (30% IIRC). In contrast the second largest economy in the world (Japan) is in debt by more than twice the amount of it's GDP. Our military power is likewise unrivaled. Our healthcare system has always been ranked low for an industrialized nation, so we've got nowhere to go at this point other than up. I'm failing to see how the US is dying. But hey, go ahead and have your tea party state secede anyway. I'm sure that will end wonderfully. Just look at how well the last secession attempt went when half the country tried to split off. I'm sure your state will be able to fend off the US military.

please visit usdebtclock.org to see our skyrocketing debt. our healthcare before the new one goes into law is the best in the world when it comes into law we too will have stories of people on two year waiting lists. our military is unrivaled yes but we are war tired and history teaches us war tired nations dont last very long in combat never mind the fact our stupid ask questions first tie your hands behind your back and wait for the order to shoot policy instead of bomb the hell out of the country take it over and get out instead of this 10 year marathon war bush started and obama is continueing. our large economy is true just means well fall harder. i agree with AHUGECAT the USA is crumbling im sure arizone will secede i mean what with the feds sueing them. and several other states trying to invoke 9th and 10th amendment rights blockades against the feds. so yes incoming civil war. and lets not forget riots are starting to break out. and the USA has a rather high jail population. quite frankly the reasons the USA is falling are endless. and this goes far beyond a republican vs democrat issue.

But how much of that federal money is in the form of unnecessary farm subsidies? If the entire South was to secede today (re-forming the Confederacy) it would be the #5 economy in the world in terms of GDP. Federal funding would not be a problem............ Also, the top 5 states for federal aid per capita are District of Columbia (not a state I know), Vermont, Alaska, New York, Massachusetts.

But here in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, we have the largest stockpile of nuclear warheads and weapons-grade uranium in one place anywhere in the world. Y-12 is the Fort Knox of uranium.

Basically, Tennessee would have more nuclear weapons than the remaining U.S.
