How long do you think it will be until humanity stops practicing religion, if ever?

If Jesus could spread Christianity and make it as popular as he did, then I don't see why someone can't spread atheism and make it as popular as organized religion. If someone were to try and spread atheism and make it worldwide, what steps do you think they would have to take?

Religion will never disappear completely. Modern religions may disappear but something new will replace it.

Hopefully organized, corporatized religion comes to an end very soon. It does nothing good for the world. The only good thing about religion is some of the people who practice it.

Never or thousands of years from now at the earliest. I'm not sure you realize how hardcore religious countries outside of the west are.

But the western countries have a great influence on the eastern countries. If you prefer, how long do you think until the end of religion in the western hemisphere?

Its becoming less and less popular.

I don't care what anyone else says, this generation is definitely more open minded than the previous ones.

Uh... yes... Even those who claim to be religious tend not to go to their respective churches/etc. on a regular basis (i.e. culturally and traditionally motivated reasons such as weddings and funerals) and whatever religious beliefs they hold are usually just personal beliefs.

Well as organized religion you might have a point but it's not like 100% of Europe is atheist.

For the most part, Atheism wont become the norm until most of mankind is educated. In an educated country (lets say Canada) I'd say its about 80 years until at least 80% of the population is atheist.

no it doesn't. Atheism is a rejection of a unproven claim that there is a god. How can you reject something that you don't know? That doesn't make logical sense.

Atheism means to not believe in god, you can't believe in something you don't know about.

I'd say atheism is disbelief in God. This is just pure ignorance, not belief or disbelief in any way.

Well just because something doesn't make logic doesn't prevent people from doing it. I don't think someone is capable of making that decision at a very young age.

If you really want to get technical, and not use the term atheist in such a sweeping manner, you could say that we are all born "true agnostics." But in the broadest scope possible, atheism is merely the lack of belief. It is when you start getting into concepts such as "knowing the claims and rejecting them" that you start needing greater amounts of explanation (i.e. a gnostic atheist actively knows there is no God, or has chosen a specific, or many specific definitions to reject because of there own reasons).

The Pope lives in a gilded palace funded by the charity givings of his followers. The entire organization resembles a business more than it does a religion.

Exactly. Which is why the best way to define atheist, so it covers the vast majority without descending into ridiculous sub-definitions is merely to state "those who lack belief in God, gods and/or the supernatural."

I consider anyone who isn't part of an established religion, an Atheist. Whether they believe in a higher power or not.

Just for the sake of simplicity. All those extra specifications is pointless and a waste of time.
