[QUOTE="surrealnumber5"][QUOTE="MannyDelgado"]Man, this is like a new level of right-wing retardedness: not only are poor people responsible for being poor, sick people are responsible for being sicktoast_burner

so gyms are now a right wing conspiracy and some how so is balanced nutrition?

I'll go tell my dad to throw away all his medicine for his blood pressure and just go to the gym instead.

I wasn't planning to respond in this thread. And I don't mean to sound like one of THOSE guys (and by that I mean one of those diet conspiricists), but gluten really is a poison of our generation. If he stopped spiking his blood sugar with so many carbs, and spent his youth focusing on diet and exercise, then he probably could throw away his medicine.

Again, that's because the US is huge. In Europe you get much more diversity per square Km, and that goes for people, scenery, pretty much everything.

nunovlopes

Has nothing to do with the size and more to do with the mix dude.

Think about it this way. If you're in a random place in Europe, and you drive a few hundred Kms in any direction, chances are you'll enter a different country where people speak a different language, eat different food, have different habits, etc. How's that for diversity?

Thread says England dude. So I don't know what point you think you're making....but you're not.

It's much more complicated than that. There are people who work out, have a healty diet, don't smoke, drink, etc., and still die young of cancer, or other things. On the other hand, there are people who smoke every day until they die of old age in their 90s.

It's a tough reality to accept, that most of what happens to you is genetically conditioned. You can push the odds in your favor, but in the end there's only so much you can do.

I wouldn't say MOST is genetically defined. I think there are people that fall under that category. But saying you can't maximize your odds is very ignorant. Truth be told, 99% of people don't take care of themselves.

Ok, I drifted off a bit. But my point still stands. Take a random area in the US with the same size of England. I'm guessing you'll usually have more diversity in the UK than in a similarly sized area in the US. The US is huge so everything seems to be spread across more space.

You'd imagine wrong. The US is more diverse than England.

I didn't say you can't maximize your odds, you can, but the impact is relative.

Hey, I'm not advocating for people to be lazy bums. I personally try to live a healty life. I just think it's not worth it to worry too much about not eating this, not drinking that, because there's too much stuff you can't control. I think people should live a relatively balanced life, but not stress too much about what they eat or drink, there's just too many genetic or environmental factors that you can't control.

You're thick dude. Obviously it is more diverse, it's many times bigger, much more space for diversity. You can't compare two countries that are so disparate in size. You need to compare similarly sized areas. US vs Europe, or UK sized area in the US vs UK.

You should research the effect of some lifestyle choices on the body. I can't say that things are out of your control, because as I said, 99% of people, well, more like 99.997% of people have lived their lives in this country in a world of gluttony, self degradation, and sedativity. Until there's a larger pool to sample from, I'm going to have to say I believe that even auto-immune diseases are better controlled through lifestyle than medication, or can be prevented altogether.

It's unrealistic to ask everyone to live a healthy life, and I understand that. Up until 2 years ago I never worked out in my life. It's just the way it is. But we can't sit there and say it's genetics when we there's plenty of evidence to say otherwise. It's definitely a first world problem, and needs to be researched a lot more before people start to buy into it.

I get all that, and I fully agree we should do what we can to maximize our odds. But now take this example. I love sugar. I eat large quantities of stuff with sugar, sweets, etc. Yet my blood analysis is always perfect, excellent collesterol level, etc. My brother-in-law on the other hand is very cautious of what he eats and still has insane levels of collesterol.

Changing my opinion? I always said from the beggining the reason the US has more diversity is because it's bigger, go read it again. Here it is:

[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"]US has more variety in the one country than England does.nunovlopes
That's because the US is HUGE.
