Freedom is such an empty and soulless word now. Its been utterly raped by politicians. I tend to see that people who use 'freedom' as a slogan seek to deny it to many. As for me, politics isn't black and white. My affiliation and views have changed and molded over the years, no one issue or term can help describe it. Buuuuuuut for the sake of this thread I'll say the biggest thing that influences my politics today is my loathing of the anti-intellectual and anti-scientific approach of social conservatives. HoolaHoopManI agree with that.
Around Cuba, all you see are signs that advocate freedom and self-reliance. To my understanding, it's the same in north Korea. These signs are place there by the government to give the illusion of freedom to their oppressed population.

i would suggest hunter x hunter too.
it starts out light and seemingly kid friendly, but ends up being incredibly brutal, dark and fun.
>CoolioMonster is fairly dark and stays away from almost all of the common problems with anime. Neon Genesis Evangelion is f*cking depressing. Imo it always was. It's such a relative and yet meaningless concept. In any situation anyone would have something that they would say is keeping them down, whether it be the government, businesses, culture or even their own limitations within an environment. Having people feel that they're free enough is a part of not pissing them off if anyone was wondering but again freedom is a bit too subjective to bother basing an entire view around imo.Freedom is freedom from the government.[QUOTE="Ace6301"][QUOTE="HoolaHoopMan"]Freedom is such an empty and soulless word nowBMD004
Federal government should (in my opinion) be there to protect people militarily, and to protect their rights granted by the constitution. It should do little else.
I think the government should let people be. That is freedom to me.
What about freedom from corporations? If we let companies run around unchecked, they could have the kind of control over our lives that we fear when it comes from the governmen

cowboy bebop was only supposed to have one season (the ending supports this)
death not is way better as a manga than an anime.

I think my friends are bad people, or at least they have bad taste in anime.
So far, they've shown me:
Death Note (sh!t-tier)
Full Metal Alchemist: Bro (Very Good)
Spice and Wolf (meh, has ups and downs)
Penguin Drum (sucked)
Angel Beats (boring)
Stiens;gate (EXCELLENT)
Durarara (i kinda liked it)
HunterXhunter (ughhh)
Future Diaries (kinda gay)
There were another small handful that I've forgotten that were sh!t. I think Code Geass was next on the list. I'd mentioned Cowboy Bebop and Evangelion, but they were all "those are so old" or somesuch.
Oh I know. No one took the bait, though.whats wrong with anime/manga? it's so diverse there is bound to be something you like.

your Friends like hyper safe "Americanized" anime.
Code Geass is also garbage.I think my friends are bad people, or at least they have bad taste in anime.
So far, they've shown me:
Death Note (sh!t-tier) - It's okay until episode 25, then it goes off the deep end so hard
Full Metal Alchemist: Bro (Very Good) - It's alright
Spice and Wolf (meh, has ups and downs) - Shit
Penguin Drum (sucked) - idk what this is
Angel Beats (boring) - Shit
Stiens;gate (EXCELLENT) - Good
Durarara (i kinda liked it) - It's alright
Cowboy Bebop (ughhh) - It's alright. A lot of people overpraise it
Future Diaries (kinda gay) - idk what this is

I feel like they were playing very safe with me as the idea of getting IRL me to watch anime probably struck them as a very difficult task. I just wish they'd stick w/ good stuff. OFC, they have meh tastes in American stuff, so I should have expected this.
BeansÂ
Just watch these:
FLCL
Monster
Vision of Escaflowne
Darker Than Black
Bakemonogatari
Eden of the East
Planetes
Black Lagoon
Samurai X
Macross Plus OVA

I'm sure there's good sh!t out there. It's just a matter of filtering. My IRL friends are very bad filters.
But beans, from that list you gave with the exception of Steins;Gate which is amazing, none of those shows are that great (well haven't seen Durarara so I won't comment on that). Old shows do not mean bad though, and Cowboy Bebop and Neon Genesis are better than almost any modern anime. For old shows, Rurouni Kenshin and Yu Yu Hakusho are also very much worth checking out. I'd also recommend a personal favorite of mine, which is Crest of the Stars. Gunbuster is also good if a bit overly dramatic. And of course Ghost in the Shell (movie) and Perfect Blue (movie).
And let me emphasize again that Monster is amazing.
For newer stuff, Steins;Gate is the best but you've watched that. Kara no Kyoukai is a series of movies that is fantastic. Paprika is another great movie. As for shows, Fate/zero is definitely worth watching, Hellsing Ultimate is a giant pool of badassery, and Shiki is a good mystery/horror show. There's some other good stuff but this should get you started.

No.
I left school because the semester ended, and I'm now at the folks/working full-time over the summer.
I will return in August.
I think that is a pretty normal thing.
When I was at school, friends I regularly hang out with there could convince me to watch bad shows.
