[QUOTE="spacedog1973"][QUOTE="champion_tyler"][QUOTE="dreamdude"]I think the only reason most black people use the word and dont want white people saying it is because of their parent. They grow up in homes where their parents used the word all the time and then tell them that its wrong for white people to say it.
Well thats the best thatI can come up with because whenever I ask other black people why they say it, they always give me that lame excuse that its an impowering word or something and I find that to be complete bull***.
dreamdude
I think it probably does have something to do with the parents, though not in my case. I never say the word, but I don't care if anyone calls me that, whether they're black or white.
Sometimes these forums really make me wonder. I used to hate hiostory at school it was the most dull subject, but I sure am glad I picked up the basics. The answer to the thread's question isn't complicated.
I know my history quite well. I know perfectly well about slavery and then what happened for a hundred years afterward.
Thats exactly why I dont say the word. I find that if we dont want white people to say the word then we shouldn't say it. Its creates an unnecessary inequality that really doesn't have to be there.
I'm glad you know your history quite well. If white people need a lead from black people in saying specific words, thats news to me. So if black people stop saying the N word, white people will, right? Or it 'creates inequality'. Well lets get rid of the bigger inequlities first. This isn't one of them.

I'm not saying white peope will automatically stop. I'm just saying its wrong to tell somebody not to say a word that your saying all the time. Its not a big inequality....I just see it as a problem that doesn't have to exist to the extent that it does today.
[QUOTE="whipassmt"]because of racists like al sharpton and the stupid NAACP. i don't care i'm white and i say it among my family. freedom of speech and if the blacks don't like it, then i just got to tell them to stop being so sensitive. if the blacks don't want us saying it then they should tell their crappy rappers not to say it.gman56Yes, I agree with you.
im indian black if that counts but i agree too all the way!
Anybody can say it, that's a fact.
I'll tell you why. White people pity black people. White people feel guilty because they are white. White people are stupid. A black dude will say "Hey, you can't say that... cause you are white." and the white dude will say "EGADS!! That makes perfect sense." Even though it doesn't. The N word is the only crutch black people have. If we took that away from them they would be forced to find a more legitimate complaint.
Because society bends over for idiots like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson who marginalize racial seperation, and make it so whites feel as if they have some sort of obligation towards blacks. GettingTired
The history of slavery in the United States (1619-1865) began soon after the English colonists first settled in Virginia and lasted until the passage of the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
Approximately 12 million Black Africans were shipped to the Americas from the 17th to the 19th centuries. Of these, 5.4% (645,000) were brought to what is now the United States. The slave population in the U.S. had grown to 4 million by the 1860 Census.

LOL. You mean bring to the fore more legitimate complaints, right? You sound like you lack complete insight of others, lack the basic skill to relate to others and see things from their perspective and then have the nerve to spout your so-called insight on a forum, no doubt intended to seem thoughtful.
I've read some of your posts before on similar subjects and the interesting position you've stated, in believeing that a word effectively is just a combination of sounds, nothing more; the interpretation of those words is the responsibility of the reciever.
Well, in keeping with that twaddle of a philosophy, chew this for realism; on this subject, you lack skill.
Oh, a disclaimer: If you find my post in any way personally offensive, then blame it on your interpretation abilties.

How many years ago was that? Precisely. Lots of bad things happened in the past. Get over it and stop using it as an excuse to be a freeloader on society.
I don't get a few things. Ok if blacks try to use it more to take away the racist meaning, why whenever a white person says it for the most part, they are labled as racist even it it wasn't in racist context? You can't have your cake and eat it too. You either don't say it completley, or allow other races to say it too. Disturbed_Dude
Elaborate on the point. I don't get it.
So you say black people say it to take away the racist meaing to the word. But then you say if a white person says it.... but in what context? If not a racist one, then what exactly? to their friends in a friendly manner? What friends would then call them racist for doing so? Or to take the sting out of it as you say? Don't see how that would apply. I can't think of any other reason a white person would need to say it.
HAving cake and eating it has nothing to do with your point.
WTF is an 'N word' there are many words that start with N..chicken008
We can't say it but if you wanna know....
Look up the word for black in spanish
or
Watch pretty much any mainstream gangster rap video.

Says it in a non racist mannor. A non black person can say the N word without being racist, Geroge Carlin sometimes says the N word in his jokes, some think its racist while others don't. What I'm saying is, is that if blacks don't want people saying it, then they shouldn't be saying it either. Blacks saying it so much encurages other races to say the word...so you can't continue to say the N word and expect everyone else to not say it. Its a 2 way street.
I say it when I am joking around with my friends, but I don't mean for it to be offensive. No, I would probably never use it around a black person unless I knew him really well. I don't want to anger people over a silly word when I'm perfectly capable of replacing it with another word.
I'll say it around the people that don't mind it, but I won't say it in front of the people that do.
It's not like I say it that much, anyway.
Go ahead. Say it. Is it a law? It's an unwritten rule that, frankly, lots of blacks I know don't really take to heart. I used to be offended if anyone, black or white, used the word until I realized: Do I fit the criteria to be a N*****? No? Then they're not talking to me. It's hard to be offended if you're called out of your name if you don't fit that denigrating word.
And to those trying to turn this into a political thing, it has nothing to do with it and you know it. If you want to make a legitimate jab at Sharpton and the effed up NAACP, please there are better areas to poke at but this? Bad try. The demonizing of the word has nothing to do with them.
I don't know why they can say it and white people can't, it's just one of those politically-correct things.
To make things fair I make a point to get EXTREMELY offended when a non-white person uses 'cracker' in a racist way. Actually I should refer to is as the 'C-word'.

Ouch. I wouldn't forbid a white guy to use the word.....and I don't even use it. I just wouldn't mind.....at all. Also, white people aren't more stupid than black people. I think you're talking about Americans in general. Americans don't exactly have a reputation for being smart. I've lived in America all my life, but I'm not real proud of it. Public education is awful. People graduating from highschool know about as much as a 7th grader really should know. I've never lived in a mostly "black community" before, but I know that you generally get more respect if you walk out of jail than if you graduate from college. It's pretty sad. I don't like any of the stereotypes regarding my race, but this one happens to be true. Most of them are for a large percentage I think....but be careful not to make generalizations.

I don't know where you've been living, but for anyone that matters, you walk out of jail you're just another con versus graduating from college.
it ppl want to consider it offensive, it ought to be offensive by all. otherwise it only adds to the racial tension. they didn't want seperate water fountains but they want seperate words????

You effectively repeated the same point. I still don't get it. As I said, the only weay a white person can say it in a non racist manner is to their black friends and they are not going to call him/her a racist for doing it - if they are friends. I can't think of any other reason for sayiong it.
If you can clarify what you mean by a non racist manner - then that would help. As in wht circumstances, you quoted a comedian, I think it doesn't really apply to the majority of us that example does it? As it is, it seems you are complaining about nothing.

My ancestors were chased out of Poland and the Czech Republic during WWII. So, by the logic I am gathering, I should be able to walk around Germans and go "Hey! You owe me, man! You killed my great-great grandpa!" and they should go "You're absolutely right! Sorry about that; Here, take my money."

Anyone can say it. It's just less acceptable for certain people to use it than others. Also depends in what context.
