Q: Why do white people have sex with their cousins?

A: The only ones doing it are loser scumbags, so what difference does it make?

If you're sick of being around black people who say the n-word, then start hanging out with some black people who aren't freaking idiots.

If you hang around black people who speak words you don't like, then only a freaking idiot would need to be told what to do next.

[QUOTE="GettingTired"]Because society bends over for idiots like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson who marginalize racial seperation, and make it so whites feel as if they have some sort of obligation towards blacks. comp_atkins

The history of slavery in the United States (1619-1865) began soon after the English colonists first settled in Virginia and lasted until the passage of the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Approximately 12 million Black Africans were shipped to the Americas from the 17th to the 19th centuries. Of these, 5.4% (645,000) were brought to what is now the United States. The slave population in the U.S. had grown to 4 million by the 1860 Census.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_slavery_in_the_United_States

My ancestors were chased out of Poland and the Czech Republic during WWII. So, by the logic I am gathering, I should be able to walk around Germans and go "Hey! You owe me, man! You killed my great-great grandpa!" and they should go "You're absolutely right! Sorry about that; Here, take my money."

:|

i feel no obligation other than the obligation one ought to feel towards any other human being. my family did not immigrate here until the early 20th century. the never owned a slave, they never employed slave labor. what obligation should i have????

Exactly. Just as no German alive today chased any of my family members out of Poland, none of my living family members had to go through what they did, so why should I act like the Germans owe me something?

Why should I owe black people for something my ancestors never even did, and that they were never even subject to?

black people need to get over it. words only have power that we give them. thats why cracker isnt taken as seriously. most white people dont give it power. if black people didnt get offended when called ****, the word would lose its power.

I thinks its just a very common word to a lot of black people. I've hear the word used by black people to describe everything, even used to describe a white person once.

My point still stands.

Rather than calling black people ****** and then getting mad when they get offended, I think it's easier to just stop calling them ******.

Whether or not YOU say it isn't the point.

I mean, you don't call black people ******, but you also apparently don't get offended when other people say it. Doesn't stop you from telling black people to stop getting offended. But god forbid that you recommend that other people just stop saying it.

Following that logic, it must be okay for me to call my wife a ***** because I came home in a bad mood. If she doesn't like it, it's her fault for not being okay with me being a jerk.

you seem to be missing my point. if i felt the urge, id say it. nobody could stop me. but black people have the power to make it lose its meaning.

I think you fail to realize that this thread almost entirely consists of people complaining that they "can't" say that word the same way that "black people do".

Once again, I'm not specifically referring to YOU. I am referring to the people who are mad that they "can't" say it, and then argue that they should be able to say it because it's the black man's fault for getting offended.

And if you don't see what's wrong with that, then I don't know what to tell you.

Yeah, right. If these forums gave me the power without penalty, I'd inform you of a number of things in a descriptive manner, starting from my perception of your genetic flaws, which has translated into your ineherent lack of intellectual ablility passed down most probably through your family and then point out the questionable history of your parent's maritial status when you were born and how that relates to you.

But, you wouldn't find any of that offensive would you, not giving the words power and all that jazz. Right? Or have you just realised that words have power? Its a little different when its yourself isn't it?

Where are all these people who come out of the closet claiming that words don't offend them because they have the ability to take away a word's power? I don't see them in real life. Oh, I remember now, I have seen them, long ago in school. Bullies used to steal their money from them while calling them their ****. Great guys. Great to see a philiosophy in action.

Cracker doesn't have any power for a reason; it never had power. You can't take from something, something it never had.

Insults in general are stupid, but I kind of understand his philosophy on this. 'You cannot hurt me because I do not care', and that's an all-right philosophy to have, but it's absurd to demand that of other people to alleviate their suffering.

LOL! You fall for the most basic thing. you respond to words. Words you claim only have the power YOU give them. So willing to apply this logic to others, you cannot apply it to yourself.

Because of that, I see through you. You pretend to try and understand but you don't want to for a reason; you don't want to.

I think a lot of people just get mad at the double standard of it. I don't use that word, I respect my black friends (who also dont like that word) too much. My neighbors are also black. I think white people get confused because we know the negative history of the word, yet the word is still glorified so much music, movies and TV. Also the word is used to describe almost anything now a days, not just people. It seems strange that a word with such a negative connotation can still be used so acceptably. I mean does Dave chapell need to use the N word so much? No, but he does it and no one cares. If N word is going to be an offensive word, lets put the word where it belongs, the toilet.

The N word will always have a double meaning linked by racism. When a black person uses it, its a casual slang word. When a white person uses it its a racist term used to put down a whole race of people. Lets just get rid of it on both sides.

Just to help you out, since you may not have gotten my original message, I wpouldn't stoop to calling people names for its own sake on a forum. That post was specifically to test something - a suspicion. Which you in your response to it, met.

If you took it personally, I apologise. Even if you don't know, I know that words have power.

Why can only black people say the N word .

It's called "White Guilt". Somehow it came about that only black people were ever enslaved so now all white people must feel guilty about it.

Right.

The word 'Kid' is used as a derogatory word on a forum such as this when targted towards another in the context in which it was used. If you don't know this, then perhaps the value of words and 'power' in such a discussion isn't an area of expertise for you. I'm not going to analyse your post further, but simply state that my continued belief is that you fell, hook line and sinker for it.:D

Simple. They are all hypocrites. Theysay that when someone of a different color says the 'n' word it is degrading to their entire race, but they call each other that all the time. HY-PO-CRITES.

Firstly, not all black people like the word, and there are plenty who find it bad no matter who says it. The ones who are hypocritical about the use of the word tend to be the ones shooting each other anyway, so there isn't really an issue. In respect to those who dislike the word, and also because I have no reason to use it, I just don't say it.

I can easily "help my own cause" by refusing to associate with people (black or white or other) who say it.

See? I can avoid being offended in a way that DOESN'T require me to sit around pretending to be fine with it when people are calling me a ******.

If people don't want to hear the N-word from anybody who's not black, and they live in a country that has instituted freedom of speech, they'd do best to leave their country.

A lot of people assume that all black people go around saying the N word. I for one hate the word and I don't like it when people use it around me. It's a word that carries a powerful, but negative, meaning in a lot of peoples' minds and it shouldn't be used by anyone.

Or you could just not say the word? It's given it's power because of the history of the word and from when people began using it in a derogatory way.

[QUOTE="LoG-Sacrament"]black people need to get over it. words only have power that we give them. thats why cracker isnt taken as seriously. most white people dont give it power. if black people didnt get offended when called ****, the word would lose its power.stkr

Or you could just not say the word? It's given it's power because of the history of the word and from when people began using it in a derogatory way.

people use cracker in a derogatory way. it holds no power.

The reason you don't see white people saying that word is because when it started up it was an insult to black people. Its out of respect and maturity that we don't say it. They can say it because it applies directly too them. I mean you can talk about yourself however you want, but that doesn't mean you should say whatever you want to everyone else. A lot of people still do not like the word at all, so its respectful not to use it because its background was a negative one.

Racism is not a simple issue. In American culture at least, the things that are accepted for black people to say about themselves do not apply to other races. That does not make them hypocrites. The word was, and is still used by other races (particularly whites) as a derogatory term for blacks and a sign of disrespect. When we realized how wrong racism was, the word stayed as a sign of disrespect and hate from a person of a different race to a black person. Black people flipped the script and it became a term of endearment, sometimes of empowerment for the race. Why, I am not sure. Possibly because it reminded them of the struggle they endured. Now it's used as a common word from one black person to another, like brother I guess, but less 60s and more informal. Why can't other races say it? The real question is why would we want or need to say it? If you're talking about the word itself in a conversation, I don't see the reason why it's so forbidden, besides the fact that it may be a little too much for some to swallow, just like any other profanity. I have used it around black people, not to them, unless as a sarcastic joke between me and a close black friend who's comfortable with me using it as a joke. But I have used it when talking about the word or quoting someone or something. Besides that, is there that much of an urge to use the word? The only reason I think would be as a racial slur, which is and should be forbidden. But you need to understand the power a single word or symbol can hold. It is too much for many to stomach. Jews don't go around drawing Swastikas because that is something that is just too horrific to be reminded of. But the n word is just a word that blacks took from racist whites to remind them of their struggle or just to be used as a term of endearment. The word is not restricted if you feel comfortable saying it, but those situations might not come often. Respect other races and their sensitivity.

because of racists like al sharpton and the stupid NAACP. i don't care i'm white and i say it among my family. freedom of speech and if the blacks don't like it, then i just got to tell them to stop being so sensitive. if the blacks don't want us saying it then they should tell their crappy rappers not to say it.whipassmt

You say it among your family?

Do you say it among black people?

And if you do say it among black people, how do they react?

And if you don't say it among black people, wWHY don't you say it among black people?

Then you clearly don't understand context.

When I watch a Quentin Tarantino movie written by Quentin Tarantino, and the white characters are being racist as hell, saying "n-word this, n-word that" (my personal favorites being "you know what you're acting like? You're acting like two ****ing *****s!" and the surprisingly n-word-free discussion about black people and their stupid names "her name was E-Lois, I **** you not"), I don't say "man, Quwntin Tarantino is a racist.

Why not? Because it was in context.

When I watch Training Day and Denzel Washington refers to Ethan Hawke as "my ******", it's in an appropriate context.

Meanwhile, if Quentin Tarantino were to yell "LOOOK! It's a ****ing *****!!" while giving a public interview, that would NOT be in an appropriate context.

Michael Richards wasn't making ANY kind of statement. He didn't even do it for base humour. He simply got ad at some black people and started throwing racial slurs.

That's a HUGE freaking difference, and I really pity you if you can't see the distinction.

i dont want to sound ignorant but why can only black people say that word? You dont really see white people walking around calling each other cracker casually. I dont mean to sound ignorant in any way, it just confuses me a bit.Film-Guy

I'm a black person myself. I find that it's the younger black crowd that may use the N word. The older blacks that grew up or were educated about the civil rights movement do not use it. I'm one of them and do not use it.

NOT GOOD! I'm from South Africa and there are a lot worse words that people use in SA. Nobody should discriminate even if it is themselves they are referring to.

because being called a cracker isn't insulting - you only take offense if you are ashamed of your racenightshade85

Being insulted can be from pride, not shame. It can also be from lacking respect of the person defaming your race/creed, etc.

Uh, people both online and in real life who are not Black say it all the time. Just not directly at or near Black people of course.
