I was neutral on it untill reading that cracked overview of the series. Now I hate it.
Some of the underlying messages the book sends are downright dangerous, specifically this whole notion of staying in a relationship with someone who hurts you.
Sending a message of staying in an abusive relationship because you know "deep down they are a good person and will be perfectly nice with your help" is one of the worst messages that can be sent to women and I loathe anything that sends that message.
I love Twilight. Never read the books or watched the movie.
The ladies love it and I listen to them rant about it. Then I take them on dates.
Works out quite well.
because it butchers what is cool about vampires, because it reads like a badly written fanfiction, because it has poor character development and many plot holes, and because it's actually a romance series with "vampires" and "werewolves" slapped on top. i also can't stand its fanbase. they're wannabe goths who have become the female version of trekkies.
You can't even really call them plot holes cuz most are done on purpose.because it butchers what is cool about vampires, because it reads like a badly written fanfiction, because it has poor character development and many plot holes, and because it's actually a romance series with "vampires" and "werewolves" slapped on top. i also can't stand its fanbase. they're wannabe goths who have become the female version of trekkies.

why make plot holes on purpose?

Cuz so you can let a character do whatever she wants without any negative consequences.True Blood is what Twilight should be. Twilight ruined everything about vampires with that sparkling crap.
I don't get why this film garners so many fans, guess the cast drew a lot of young fans who are mostly into films with all flash and no substance. Twilight is one of, if not the worst vampire movie I have watched! david_lckThere are many things beside Twilight that I don't get all the attention. Pop music, metalcore, anime, domestic beer......
Okay I'm Coming out the closet.
I've read all the books. And they are okay. The first one was cute. When i mean cute i mean cute like a stray kitten with flees, ticks and that isn't people friendly. You know its a bad idea but you have to pick it up (cause its meowing is sooooo cute!)
But here is my problem with the series. Its okay. There are far better vampire novels out there and far better romance novels out there. Hell theres even better vampire-romance novels out there but it sells like crack.
And the major reason why i dislike the series now is....
The final book Breaking Dawn should have parents questioning what their kids are reading. Half the book was about sex. The two main characters get married for one reason to have sex and this is a teen novel. I never finished reading breaking dawn because I just don't think young women should think that leaving their family, skipping college just for a chance to get married and have kids right out of high school.
The book sends out a bad message hidden message.
That girls are meant for one thing, to be brainless, and pop out babies.
I hate Twilight because you can't say the word Twilight without every 15 year old girl in the room having an or**sm about Edward Freakin Cullen.

I work in a book store... You can imagine how many times i hear girls (and some guys) screaming "OH MY GOD ITS EDWARD BRACELET"
My dislike for Twilight has less to do with the series itself (which is, as far as I can tell, pretty terrible) and more to do with the fans.
I haven't seen the series, nor do i want to, but here is why i hate it:
1. It's fanbase
2. The characters are totally unlikable
3. Doesn't seem interesting
4. There are many better novels than it. According to it's fanbase, it's the best thing since sliced bread. There are many better novels (Watchmen, A Clockwork Orange, 1984, Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, etc.)
5. Demeaning messages.
6. Disregards practically every part of the established vampire/wolf mythos. Underworld is something that gets it right.
7. shallow, uninteresting characters
8. The fanbase think they are "dark" by reading it. They are not even close. They need something like "Let the Right One In" or "A Clockwork Orange"
The books are published as "young adult (teen)" fiction, and the movie does not do much to improve the situation. Meyer cites a few crap bands as "influences", and it makes me wonder if she had a deal with certain record labels and TV studios (MTV) from the outset. Life does not revolve around silly teen angst. You would be better off watching Let The Right One In.
The first rule of vampires: They can NOT go out in sunlight, or they will disintegrate. What does he do? He sparkles in the sunlight.foxhound_fox
you know vampires don't exist right?
there are no freakin rules.

Yes, there are rules relating to vampires. One of them is that they drink blood and that they are weakened in sunlight. The "twilight" vampires seem more like the cannibals in the Fallout 3 "Blood Lines" quest.
Bella... Her only flaw is being clumsy, over the top clumsy. And it is a romantic book, you hadn't expected her to keep the part about Vampires not being able to go out in the sunlight?foxhound_fox

Exactly! Teenage girls are sold for the "romantic" element, but no one else is buying it. Romance novels are dime store trash, but toss in a "gothic" theme, and some douche has a culturally-relevant cash-cow on their hands. Pathetic.
simple it ruins the vampire's well known structure and identity by making him walk in the sun, be super strong, super strength etc. the false reality is what gets girls hopes high in finding their edward cullen. the fanbase is annoying too, i tell them its all rubbish and to stop obsessing over it and they keep going on about it and the movie. Wheres Buffy when you need her? she'll put a stake through his chest and all will be happy :)monkeyd_93But a stake won't kill him in the Twilight world... :P Buffy will have to rip him apart and burn the body parts.

again these are FICTIONAL beings you can make up whatever you want. Obviously since vampires do not exist someone at some point said "hey let's say vampires can't go out in the sun" and there we have the "rule"
if she makes a story where vampires sparkle then big deal.
There is more to vampire lores than just Bram Stokers dracula, it stretches back way before that if you'd bother to research to many other cultures who had beliefs about supernatural beings that drank peoples blood. And no they weren't all allergic to sunlight
