If I was asked this question just a year ago I would say I hated the series, but now I honestly can say I'm quite thankful for it. I say that not because the series is great, good or even average. It's still a by-the-numbers fanfic level piece of writing but it has introduced people to reading books the way Rowling's series had. It's hard to hate anything which becomes a gateway for young people who then want to look around for something similar to read. In the end, they may even pick up the better books with similar themes.

I am sorry, but getting people back into reading is completely outweighed by the downright dangerous messages the book sends to young girls.
Oh yeah, true love is having sex where the girl has her bones broken and passes out. Oh yeah, if a guy leaves you hurt yourself to the point of near death because that will get him back. Don't mind if he is cold and abusive, just stick with it because you can unluck his nice fluffy side!!!
When the hell did they have sex?
He loved her anyways, he left because he thought it was dangerous for her to be with them, Vampires, because recently before he left one of his brothers went nuts when she cut her finger and almost killerd her, so the family left for Bella's safety, and edward just made it seem as though he didnt love her anymore but really well he was gone he ached for her just as much as she hurt for him.
She does dangerous things not because that will bring him back but because when she does dangerous things in the book, she hears his voice, and that gave her some hope for life, thats how much she loved him, she just wanted to hear him one more time, it had nothing to do with that she though he was going to come back because she did stupid things.
You should really read the ****in books before you talk **** about them...I've read the overview of all the books and even then, thats still dangerous messages despite your trying to pretty them up.
If I remember correctly, doesn't Edward also try and kill himself when he leaves becauses he misses her? Also, theres the whole thing of the one werewolf character (is his name Jacob?) who pretty much falls in love with a newborn which is just creepy.
And genius, they have sex in the later books which is how they have a baby. This is after he warns her how badly she could be hurt during the sex, and her spine breaks during birth. He has to bite her to save her at that point, and then we get the cheesy BS of her suddenly being "the most beautiful vampire ever!".
Funny though, you try and rag on me about reading the books yet I am having to inform you about certain events in the books:lol:
Anyways, there are much better books young girls could be reading that I wish would get more of a popular push. One that comes to mind (which oddly enough the movie based on the books stars Kristen Stewart as the main character:lol:) is "Speak". It is a great book that focuses on the main character, Melinda, who had gotten date raped at a party. In her distress, she had called the police which completely ruined the party leaving her a social outcast afterwards.
It not only does a GREAT job of showing just how rape can effect someone, but at the same time it depicts high school relationships/popularity brilliantly and even goes into every high schoolers crisis of finding themselves and what they want to do with their lives. It is well written and very interesting and I wish it was more well-known. It deserved more than just being a "lifetime" movie (granted the movie is surprisingly good) and I really wish it was more well-known because the book is not only entertaining but very enlightening.
