i dont think people drink beer for the taste :? ReaperV7
Many people drink beer for taste. I'll admit most times I drink I drink to get drunk, but if I wasn't drinking for taste at all I'd just down some whisky or colt 45 and not bother with other stuff. And once in a while a casual good tasting beer really hits the spot.
It depends how young you are, if your like 12 then obviously you wont like it, but it definently grows on you
Lukanot
Nah...had my first beer at 15, kept drinking until I was about 24...still have a brew every once in a long while...and the whole time, I never "acquired" a taste for it. It's always nasty. All that happens is you get used to it, so it becomes LESS NASTY, but NEVER tasty.
"Acquired taste" is a lie agreed upon. Why do you think so many people say that EXACT phrase? Cause it's the drinkers' excuse...and they're all sticking to it.
But liquor is even worse...yuck. Red wine is the only alcohol that tastes good to me.
i dont think people drink beer for the taste :? ReaperV7
You're right, they don't. People who say they like the taste are lying. It's an excuse for the habit.
They might as well say, "I love the way moldy bread tastes! And rotten meat! No, really! I do! I guess I'm just different than you guys."
Now I never tasted ****(poop) before but I'd imagine it tastes bad like beer. I've tried budweiser, corona and after 6 months of drinking my first beers, i tried samuel adams summer ale flavor cause people said it tasted good but that nasty **** tasted the same. How can anyone drink that bitter crap?GSWarriors-
Probably because you're a kid. Maybe you should keep drinking Kool-Aid and soda pop for a few more years until you start to develop a more refined palate.

My palate is refined, and beer still tastes like crap.
I'm just being honest. Some people just can't admit that beer tastes unpleasant. It's not like it's a premium cut of steak smothered in A-1 sauce, or some delicious Italian dish, or chocolate cake, or a banana split, or a root beer float...it's just beer...bleh...
I'm not saying it's the most disgusting thing in the world...it's not. I can down a few beers easily if I want to. I'm just saying that honestly, it really doesn't taste all that "great".
It's all about the effect. That's the main purpose of drinking. Screw the taste. I don't know why people need excuses to get drunk. Who's making you feel bad about it? If you like it, do it. No need to convince yourself of things that aren't true just so you'll be able to convince someone else later.
Just a question for those of you who love to drink.
What do you think about people who smoke pot?
Deity_Slapper
I dont mind considering I occaisonally do both.
By the way, I realize I need to step out more and try more and better beers bt right now I love Bluemoon and Rolling Rock with a passion.

ActuallyI really do like some beers, and actually millions of people do like beer for the taste. I found it to be an aquired taste but I really do like the taste of certain beers. Of course there are also those I dont like and just down withput actually savoring them.

Never mind the decades old insult about men having to like beer. Everything else has gotten more advanced in the past 100 years, you'd think the insults would have too.
Basically, people who like to act like they have a refined palet just like to have something to feel special about; similar to people who only wear Abercrombie & Fitch or Gucci.

I don't know man...
It's just hard to believe that it's not just your mind playing tricks on you.
I used to work at a convenience store about 6 years ago, and one of my main duties was to keep the cooler stocked. During the graveyard shift when I would lock the front door, I'd go into the cooler, and while I was stocking I would crack open beers and try them. (Some of you might think that's the wrong thing to do, but I was young, and it's not the issue at hand anyway :P )
Anyway, every night I tried different beers, until i had tried every single one that we carried. By the end of my employment there (I quit, I wasn't fired for drinking on the job :P ), I had tried Bud, Bud Light, Bud Ice, Bud Dry, MGD, Miller Lite, Miller High Life, Coors, Coors Light, Rolling Rock, Michelob, Corona, Corona Light, Heineken, Guiness, Fosters, Becks, Icehouse, Molson Ice, Natural Ice, Natural Light, Keystone, Keystone Light, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Newcastle Brown Ale, Steel Reserve, Olde English, Mickeys, Magnum, King Cobra , and a bunch others that I don't even remember. All the flavored beers too, like Mike's Hard, Smirnoff Ice, etc....And guess what...they ALL tasted horrible. Well, the flavored drinks weren't nasty, but for some reason they make me feel sick, so that's just as pointless. :?
I didn't mind getting drunk, don't get me wrong, but there's no way beer tastes "good" to anyone, in my mind. I think people just get used to it, and it becomes tolerable, as it has to me. Some beers taste nastier than others, and people tend to make the ones they tolerate the easiest, their favorite brew. MY OPINION.
liquor actually have taste, beer normally just taste like sour waterquocthai
Uh...no. If that were the case, then people wouldn't be spending twice as much on imports instead of drinking Natty Light.
The claim that all beer tastes the same is a stupid one. You'd know this if you actually drank beer. It's equivalent to saying that high quality wine tastes the same as $4 wine-in-a-box. It's like saying that a chuck steak is the same as a ribeye, or that mahi-mahi and salmon are interchangeable.

They don't all taste the same, but they do taste SIMILAR.
And I think people spend more on imports because they do tend to be a little less nasty than domestics, but I think it's mostly because it's trendy. They think it's cool to say they "only drink imports" (while having an arrogant smirk on their face).

And "taste similar"?
I don't even know what the hell that means.
If you think that a Guiness tastes similar to a Corona or a Heineken or a Budweiser, then you DON'T have a refined palate. Maybe you should actually try drinking beer before you make stupid claims about it.
Now, I suppose you could make the argument that a Corona tastes like beer, and a Guiness tastes like beer, therefore Corona and Guinness taste similar. But that would STILL be stupid. That'd be like saying that a crappy ass chardonnay tastes similar to a high quality pinot noir, just because they both taste like wine.
The fact that you said that all beer tastes similar IMMEDIATELY invalidates anything you have to say about beer.

No, I actually go out in the world and have seen all this crap. Snobs and their imports... Wannabe patrriots and their domestics, and a "buy American!" attitude. They both suck. Any time I do have a drink, it'll be at home, either by myself, or with close friends. I can't stand most people who drink, cause they think they're cool for doing it.
And this whole "it's manly" crap that people try to do...gimme a break, it's just a little liquid in a bottle. And girls drink too.

Yes, Guiness does taste different than any other beer, but that's the only one. I've tried them all, almost, and they all have that SIMILAR "beer" taste and smell. You're right, I forgot, Guiness is quite different, but still not that tasty. I had the cans of Guiness that come with that little ball in them that mixes it up, I guess?

Dude, you've already stated that you can't taste a significant difference between VASTLY different beers. If YOU can't taste the difference, then you're arguing from COMPLETE ****ING IGNORANCE when you claim that other people can't tell the difference. You're exactly like a non-wine-drinker making the studidly uninformed claim that there's generally no significant difference between cabernet sauvignons and pinot noirs. You've admitted that you don't know what the hell you're talking about, so your opinions on people prefer one beer over another are based on absolutely nothing.

Well there you go. We both agree that there is good beer and bad beer, so that's basically all there is to it.
What do the majority of people drink? I don't know, and I don't care. That's not my business. As long as I can still drink the beer that I like, I couldn't give a flying **** what the majority of beer drinkers drink.

Actually, it's based on their attitudes. Most of the poorer, or just more humble folks would buy the domestics, while the snobs with their $200 sunglasses, designer clothing, talking on their cell phones while paying for their stuff, would usually buy the imports.
The other point you made, makes no sense. I said that they do taste different, just not much. Do you know what the word "similar" means? Scroll up. You'll see where I said that all beers do NOT taste alike. There's just not any that taste GOOD.

Um...so by that logic, you're saying that beer tastes similar to bread chicken livers?
Things that taste bad can still taste VASTLY different. Things that taste good can taste VASTLY different. It doesn't MATTER if you think all beer tastes bad, THEY DO NOT ALL TASTE SIMILAR. A belgian style white beer does NOT taste similar to a brown ale. They taste VASTLY different. And if you really can't tell a significant difference, then I feel very sorry for you.
