They are insecure with their beliefs, so they have to put other people down. And I guess they think that if you say God is not real enough times then maybe he will disappear. They just do not want to be held accountable to their creator.

 So I suppose that since you're criticising atheism, you must be insecure in your own beliefs.

Then it all comes down to who started it, and in my case, I was first insulted by an atheist before I fought back. Therefore, in my case, I am the "monkey".

And if you go by my theory, then we are both insecure, but if you go by your theory, we both aren't. Either way it is an even playing field.

I pointed out that, contrary to your claims, there is a correlation between atheism and intelligence. That doesn't mean "all atheists are more intelligent than religious people", and it doesn't, contrary to your claim, prove that I have some kind of atheistic superiority compex.

The ONLY studies I have seen have been comparing countries. When you do that, the amount of variables that come into play is mind boggling. I bet if there was a study conducted in ONLY the US or UK, then the results would show equal intelligence.

see, this simple *post* turned into a Christianity-Atheism war. And in my POV, if you weren't insecure, you wouldn't give a crap if someone critizied your religon, maybe defend against low blows.

Um, no offense, but did you even read it. The survey was taken with small group of people. It was also taken by the AMERICAN YOUTH. I serouisly do not think teens and young adults who haven't even finished college qualify as an "accurate" survey.

Here is a few qoutes from the page-

"I'm not saying that believing in God makes you dumber. My hypothesis is that people with a low intelligence is more easily drawn towards religions"

and also

" But what religion you're believe in is also a factor here, Nyborg thinks.

- If you're highly talented, you have a tendency to choose a religion or worldview that gives you a greater intellectual satisfaction and most likely throw away a religion that requires blind faith, he says.

I'm an atheist, and you called me insecure. That qualifies as an insult, and oddly enough, your own theory calls you insecure.
Go back to your first statement. Funky called you out on it and your response was that you're not insecure because you were simply responding. In my case, you were not simply responding, you were being the aggressor, which according to your own theory (not mine) makes you insecure. Interesting turn of events.

[QUOTE="quiglythegreat"] well to hell with you, I am just not a monkey, and that's all I have to say about that.

How evolution mean that humans are monkeys? :|

uh because it's like you are your parents. and something to do with xmen, I forget

Well, if your parents are monkeys, then perhaps you are a monkey. :P

It's a central element of evolution that, people aren't identical to their parents. I don't think you could reasonably claim that a person is the same as his parents. Besides which, we didn't evolve from apes, we have a common ancestor. Oh, and also, your objection to evolution is an argument from incredulity, which is a logical fallacy.

Yes, but at the same time, I didn't insult you either. Somebody insulted my beliefs and I, in return, insulted theirs. You just happened to step in the crossfire, and I guess you thought I was insulting you.

DeeJayInphinity

I'm an atheist, and you called me insecure. That qualifies as an insult, and oddly enough, your own theory calls you insecure.
Go back to your first statement. Funky called you out on it and your response was that you're not insecure because you were simply responding. In my case, you were not simply responding, you were being the aggressor, which according to your own theory (not mine) makes you insecure. Interesting turn of events.

But I was talking towards a specific atheist. Not you. So I was not aggressive to you personally. Yu got involved though so where does this leave us. If I am insecure in my beliefs, then most of the atheists posting here are also. So again, it is your pick. Either we are all insecure or not.

Again, I ask you why we're insecure.
You mentioned atheists. I am an atheist.

Hypocrisy ! Must I bring to your attention that post you wrote saying atheists are more intellegent?

Funky_Llama

On average, aren't they?

Here in America? No. All the atheists I know are working dead end jobs, while a lot of the theists I know are making the big money and advancing in their field of expertise.

 Hmm... so, what's more reliable, your subjective personal experience, or the numerous studies concluding exactly the opposite of what you claim? Here's one 'here in America': http://trance.nu/v4/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1834301
And here's one throughout the world: http://hypnosis.home.netcom.com/iq_vs_religiosity.htm

By the way... how many atheists do you know?

"

Um, it wasn't done by American youth... its results partially contain results of an IQ survey done on American youth... you could at least read it properly.

You knew what I meant. The test was surveying America's youth. It was a 70 year old man who made the survey. I have read it.

Are you an atheist who insults other people's beliefs? If not, then I wasn't talking about you, so therefore I didn't attack you.

Yeah, so what? Intelligent youth are likely to become intelligent adults.

Okay, I am having trouble telling which side you are on right now :P.

If you are talking about me, then this is just from my personal experience. Anybody can throw around statistics all they want, I am just going by my own experience which is what I trust more than a random survey conducted on teens by a 70 year old guy.

And also, are you saying atheists are smarter than theists? If you read the article, it didn't say that. All it says was that the unintellegent tend to cling to religion. Your average theist is just as smart as your average atheist.

If you make a topic about God there will be people against God, and if you make one about Atheism there will be one against it. Same thing with McCain/Obama, kinda the way the world works, we don't all think the same.
