If you make a topic about God there will be people against God, and if you make one about Atheism there will be one against it. Same thing with McCain/Obama, kinda the way the world works, we don't all think the same.btaylor2404

Yes, but disagreeing is one thing, the problem is though that people in religious debates tend to think they are better than everyone else because of their beliefs. That is when a disagreement becomes a flame war, which almost always happens in religious topics. It would be wonderful though to have a rational, educated discussion on the subject, but I doubt that will ever happen.

Atheists bash Zeus because they fear him and his thunderbolts. Part jealousy, part awe, part many things, but those crazy atheists just can't stand Zeus and his bros.

I know what you're saying TC but you should've just asked the question instead of defending religion. I will never fully understand why so many of you guys enjoy debating about religion and evolution. Most of you aren't even well educated enough to bring up solid arguments and nothing good usually comes out of them. And why do you care so much about it? No one ever changes their mind anyway. Hopefully us irritated gamespotters will someday see an end to these pointless threads.

We bash religion for the simple reason that people like you make outrageous claims in it's name. Religion is internal, and if you truly keep your faith close to your heart then why would you care what people say about it. Your faith should be stronger than that!

Apparently you are having some doubts....

Ok, I am just as tired of religous threads as much as the next guy, but honestly what is your problem? I don't understand why this website is so anti-religous. You make it seem like religion has caused all your suffering and I'm not talking about everyone on this board but to those who just really try to seek attention. Please don't deny because its so obvious. Its funny how Atheist on this board complain about christians trying to spoon feed them with their faith yet ironically Atheist try to shove the denial of a god down our throats.

Kamekazi_69

The spoon-feeding is balanced, both sides are equally fanatic about it (just ask crushmaster), and just because an atheist expresses their opinion it doesn't mean anyone is bashing religion, I know there are people who openly bash, but it's not everyone, and many christians here take it as bashing when someone says "there is no god" or "the bible is just a book", etc. But why should they feel offended by this? The atheist is just expressing his beliefs and opinion, and theists express their views with the exact same conviction that they are right, so why do they get angry when an atheist does the same? Some people just don't believe in god, deal with it.

You say that religion has cost the lives of millions of people throughout time? Many of todays serial killers are Atheist. No wonder they are because they take that image "since there is no god, Im not going to be punished" for themselves. General Mao, Joseph Stalin, Ed Gein, Polpot are All atheist!!

Kamekazi_69

Seriously, when did "since there's no god, I'm not going to be punished" become the image of atheists? :|

Being atheist doesn't make you evil, you know? And most atheists don't use it as an excuse to just do whatever the hell they want, they just don't agree with christian morals, but atheists are just as nice as christians or whatever, being theist/atheist has nothing to do with someone being a criminal, or even a bad person. Don't generalize all atheists just because a few of them are criminals, by your logic I could say that every single christian is a murderer and scum just because some nut jobs killed thousands of people back in the inquisition days.

I know it looks like im now bashing on atheism, But enough is enough. Out of nowhere, even in nonreligous threads, I see "there's no god", "christians are brainwashed", "Science can disprove religion, yay", "I can prove that god doesnt exist". In few, very few boards, I have never seen a fanatic praise the holy book on gamespot so dont question me, Im expressing myself JUST like you are.

Kamekazi_69

Again, they are just expressing what they believe, and they do it with the same conviction as christians, etc, both sides are equally sure they are right, why should one annoy you more than the other?

As for the bolded text: Really? You must have missed this then... http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=26536520 And it's not just ONE fanatic either...

Before you question my beliefs, I have logic, I am a loyal christian but i still have high respect in the field of science because I love learning about facts. YES, wow, a christian that loves studying facts. I just don't see it, "I'm so bored, Im just going post a topic of me trying to disprove god". Shouldn't you keep it to yourselfs? I GARANTEE that if I made a topic about god, it would be instantly denied.

Kamekazi_69

Again, both sides are just expressing an opinion, and again, look at the topic I linked above, it definitely wasn't "instantly denied".

I DO believe in miracles, I do believe in god, and I do believe in heaven and dont you dare call me dilusional. As a matter a fact, I wouldn't be suprised that god is not here, With such a hateful and evil world we live in, no wonder he doesnt show.

Kamekazi_69

No comments on this, I disagree about all of that but I'm not going to bash you.;;;)

Edit: By the way I didn't bother reading anything but the first post, so this is just my response to your intial argument.

Anybody can throw around statistics all they want, I am just going by my own experience which is what I trust more than a random survey conducted on teens by a 70 year old guy.

Redneck33

Just because you trust it more doesn't mean it's more reliable. ;)

And also, are you saying atheists are smarter than theists? If you read the article, it didn't say that. All it says was that the unintellegent tend to cling to religion. Your average theist is just as smart as your average atheist.

Redneck33

 The survey concluded that atheists, on average, are more intelligent than theists. The reason for that may well be that the unintelligent cling to religion.

Religion in it self does not cause war or suffering. ORGANIZED RELIGION does, it is one of mankinds biggest flaws imo and has set us back hundreds of years.. Through out history, the church has always controled people.. And often times it seems no different when I see these huge movements, where the head people tell them what to think.

Keyword is imply. If it didn't imply anything he wouldn't have posted it. He was clearly implying atheists are smarter than theists.

First, its my opinion as an atheist that everyone is entitled to their own beliefs, what you belive in is not my problem. What bothers me its that there is a lot of religious persons who think that just because someone doesnt believe in a higher order they have no morals, in my opinion educated human beings (of any religion and belief) are above common animals, so they dont need to act based on fear or guilt. And i think few people can deny that most religions are based, one way or another, on fear and guilt.

Very true, and he was wrong to claim that it did.
