Personally I think he's currently doing a great job. However, I can't predict how he will perform over the next few years, nor can I predict who is running mate will be. So, for now, I'm undecided. :)

I'll wait until that time to make that judgment call. I think that saying I would or wouldn't vote for him in 2012 based on what he's done up to this point would be too shortsighted.

Now wouldn't that depend on the state of the country and the other candidates? Both of which are unknown at this time....

Unless he wakes up one morning and decides he has to be a sacrosanct libertarian as far as his policies are concerned in the time before said election, I sincerely doubt it.

That is way too far away to be deciding that now. That is, if you truly care about who your leader is and if you aren't just another "Vote for your party" drone.

Well, clearly it's not nuts to refuse to vote for a Dem, so Pirate's "nuts baseline" is far skewed from the norm.

Most likely, although depending on a variety of scenarios that might possibly unfold, I might just vote third party because I live in an uber-safe state. Regardless of what happens though, no way am I voting for the republican party until they jump off the crazy train.

The short term does not matter, it is only the long term that matters, both in business and in politics. In business you have the shareholders who force companies to make shortsighted decisions in the short term to boost share price but overall stunt the growth of the business. Thank goodness presidents get some time to do something and can't get ousted whenever people feel like it or we'd have a new president every few months, The shortsightedness and ignorance of people make me sick.

That's kind of a vague statement. Could you give some examples? I will say that his 'wanting American children to have a better education by longing the school year/days' is kind of hypocritical. What I mean is, he said that he wants American children to be as educated as other countries around the globe. When the debate was about health care, he didn't make it like other countries around the world (universal health care or similar). Also, instead of longer days, or an extended school year, why not make the quality of general education better?

It depends. I don't think that what has and is trying to do are the right things for the country but if in 3 more years he turns out to be correct and he's running against, say, Sarah Palin I would vote for him. Although I really hope the republican party isn't dumb enough to throw her enough support to let her make it to the primaries. Although lately the republicans have been almost flaunting stupidity.

In all honesty its a little too early to give him a grade on his performance, but I will say that so far he hasn't been anything great. Too me instead of trying to fix issues he is trying reinvent the wheel and at this current time trying to reinvent the wheel is pretty stupid considering there is absolutely no money to support the little things, let alone a revamped health system. He will look good to needy people, but the working people he looks like a fool.

im_mr_brown

Um...pretty much the only reason he was elected was because of people blindly voting either because:

A. He was a black man

or

B. He wasn't Republican

There were 22 kids out of 25 in my government course in highschool, just as an example, that voted for Obama. When the 2 of us that Voted McCain asked the 22 why they did...

well...not a single one could explain nor really NAME a policy of Obama's that would ACTUALLY work outside of theory and not a single one of them could actually come up with a legitimate reason why he was better than any other candidate.
