I don't really like everything the Dems do and I really wish this health care thing would get pushed through, pretty disappointed about the Administration not being able to get a public option through, but I don't see how voting for Republicans would help that at all, so yes.

Well I'm sure he'll at least run again. I think just about every president ever has.

[QUOTE="chessmaster1989"]It really depends on who the Republican candidate is (and how Obama does)... but as of now, looking at the possible candidates (Huckabee, Palin, Jindal, etc.) I'd say there's a very, very good chance I'll vote for Obama.Pirate700

I think Huckabee would be a good option. I think McCain would be an awesome option again if he wouldn't be about 100 by then. :P

I think Huckabee's got his heart in the right place... and that's about all I can say in his favor. :P

Anyway, 2000 McCain (non-sellout McCain) running with a good VP (not a hack like Palin) would be a good ticket.

No, I can safely say that I will under no circumstances vote for Obama in 2012.

...But that's because I will not be an American citizen. :P

I like Obama, dont get me wrong, but A.) its too early to tell, and B.) I only show loyalty to candidates, not parties. Party loyalty is pointless considering they change positions so frequently.

Um...pretty much the only reason he was elected was because of people blindly voting either because:

A. He was a black man

or

B. He wasn't Republican

There were 22 kids out of 25 in my government course in highschool, just as an example, that voted for Obama. When the 2 of us that Voted McCain asked the 22 why they did...

well...not a single one could explain nor really NAME a policy of Obama's that would ACTUALLY work outside of theory and not a single one of them could actually come up with a legitimate reason why he was better than any other candidate.

grenadexjumpr

or

C. No one wanted Palin

[QUOTE="guynamedbilly"]That is way too far away to be deciding that now. That is, if you truly care about who your leader is and if you aren't just another "Vote for your party" drone.Pirate700

I guess I'm a drone along with 90% of the country. It doesn't make you a drone to always vote for your party. If you agreed with the other side you wouldn't be with a party. :|

I think what he is saying is that most people blindly vote for one party simply out of habit, because they superficially appeal to your core ideals, or because that is what their parents voted. These people vote without really looking at the issues to begin with, and they wouldnt vote for the other party if the other party's ideals and policies matched their own.

That is, imo, being a drone (I dont like that word tho. Sheeple sounds better... ).

I think if you have tendencies toward one party, or if you need a lot of convincing by the opposite party to vote for them, that is OK. Loyalty is a valued thing for a good reason; its a virtue.

Just do not be ignorant. If the party you are loyal to is acting like clowns, and the opposite party (or, God willing, a third party) is making a lot of sense, by all means vote for them!

undecided right now because i want to see what happens in the next 3 years. but i also don't want a return to the neo con policies that got us here in the first place. I find it hilarious how they think more tax breaks for the rich and less regulation will fix the mess that was created by those same policies.

If the Republicans can produce a REAL candidate that isn't some old, out-of-touch, silver-spoon, southern-fried, dinosaur that's controlled by the Church and Business tycoons, then MAYBE I'll give them a second look.

Until then, I'm voting for the guy that is the most down-to-earth candidate that speaks intelligently and makes sense - so far, Obama is the man.

Obama is the most sincere guy we've had as President in decades. He's like a real human being, not some manufactured Washington cookie-cutter.

I don't think there is sufficient evidence to say that it caused the problem. At most, one may say that it exacerbated the problem. Much of the problem started with the subprime mortgages that started under Bill Clinton. Inaction on the part of the neo-cons only served to worsen bad policy. Deregulation is only as good as the policies in place.

For me, it depends on who else is running. Although I'm quite dissapointed in the whole process over here. With the news only covering 2 canidates, and both canidates are usually very similar. It ends up being a choice between evil clone 21 or evil clone 22, and the news is fine with it! Journalistic integrity means nothing any more.

I'd much rather see a system where there are 3-4 major parties here in america, atleast then it would feel like we're not being tag-team raped by 2 parties.

While it did start under Bill Clinton I was the deregulation of banks at that time that set it off IMO. It doesn't matter if it's Republicans or Demos that did it. although the the bill was a compremise between Clinton and the Rublicans at the time. Most noticably the chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, Texas Republican Phil Gramm.

FYI the bill is called the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. Both Gramm and Leach are Republicans and the Republicans controlled congress at the time.

True. I am 35% approve of him now, the lowest it's been. Mainly cuz he aint sending more troops into Afghanistan and he is letting Holder bring charges against the CIA.

hehe i'd be negative toward him if he does send more troops. Lets not turn this into another Iraq/nation building exercise. as for Holder. I want that investigation to go up higher. to the ppl that gave the orders.

Everyone pretty much understands that the Republicans caused this mess.

And as usual, it's the Democrats who are forced to raise everyone's taxes in order to fix the mess.

It's the neverending cycle - Republicans screw stuff up, Democrats raise taxes to fix it, then the Republicans regain control because of angry tax payers. Then the Republicans screw it all up again, Democrats are called in to fix it again and around and around we go...

It's quite sad really - Democrats never get a chance to incorporate REAL CHANGE because whenever they are voted into office, it's usually to FIX all the Republican's screw-ups. Democrats are stuck spending their time in office trying to repair all the damage the Republicans cause, rather than developing new ideas to move the country forward.

I wish we could get Independents in more power positions. But they just don't have the money or support the other two parties have.

:| Please, please tell me this is a sarcastic joke. I mean just WOW. Anyone who knows anything on the the subject know the democrat run congress "allowed" this mess to happen. And if you want to place blame it doesn't go to any party. It goes on all the idiot citizens who where buying homes they couldn't afford. People stocking shelves for a living thinking they could afford million dollar homes does not lie on any party. It falls on their own stupidity.

To early to tell. I'd like to see more focus on the economy and some things happen the encourage business growth, because too many people are losing jobs, and with out more people working, less money to receive from taxes to pay for the programs.

I will not vote for him and i will not vote for 99% of the republicans either. They are pretty much all the same. The things that republicans and Democrats differ on are all side issues like abortion or in what way they will tax the middle class.

Which makes him a really impotent leader. If he can't get it done with this decisive of a majority in both the House and Senate, I don't know what to say other than he clearly overestimated his influence.

No, mainly becuase I am sick and tired of presidents serving two terms and really screwing things up in the second term. They should go back to it just being one term and after that someone else comes along. The same should be done with the Senate. Most of the problems come from the same damn people being in office for long periods of time.

Disagree. Senators have too many special interests (and their own re-elections to worry about). Even the Clintons couldn't get health care even close to where Obama has it, and I don't think anyone would call either Clinton impotent (that can be taken multiple ways :P).

I think this quote "Any American who is prepared to run for president should automatically, by definition, be disqualified from ever doing so." speaks volumes about who is really viable for becoming a candidate. And while there may not be enough viable candidates to have a new one every 4 years doesn't mean that someone by default has to re-elect Obama or anyone else running for that matter. There will always be a choice to select a different candidate whether it means switching parties or not.

Way, WAY too soon to say. Probably, because the Republican party is certifiable. Even if I'm not 100% pleased with Obama (and I'm DEFINITELY not) I can't think of anyone the Republicans might actually nominate that wouldn't be way worse of a choice based on my beliefs.

That's Obamas biggest flaw is he is WAY too far left. He is more left than most Dems. I don't expect him to be dead center just as I wouldn't expect a Rep to be. He's verging on a Michael Moore level of liberalism right now though.

We don't have a true left wing in the US, only center and right wing. If you look at every other industrialized nation, they have left wing parties, we do not. If Obama was Left wing, he'd be pushing for a Universal Healthcare system, which he is NOT unfortunately. The Public option is just a layer on top of the already existing lousy system, and he's flaky on this as well. Insurance and Drug Companies have him in their back pocket like they do with all our Politicians, that's not "Left" at all. Obama is keeping the SAME tax codes for the top 1% in place until 2012 which is ridiculous and NOT left wing at all. Obama's tax codes are LOWER than Reagan's., the Conservative's idol. Why? It's Big Business and their contributions. Obama is pushing the War in Afghanistan, still has troops in Iraq, FEEDING the Military Industrial Complex. This is NOT Left wing. Anyone who suggest he's too left wing needs to stop listening to right wing talk radio and pundits, and look at the facts on their own. With FOX news, this is EXACTLY the kind of talk that they push out on a daily basis and it's simply false and not true.
