I've sent out 40 applications since last year and haven't gotten a single call back from anywhere yet. The best I can do is farmhanding on some local farms for pocket change. It's rough out there.

Vuurk

It really is, I had to take a job outside my field to get by myself. I feel like some people like brainzless are completely disconnected with how some people are really struggling out there.

I do like horses though.

What is your *field*? I can't imagine that you have a college degree.

lol is that your default post or something?

20 years old

2 prior jobs: paper boy and a dishwasher at a camp, plus a lot of volunteer work ranging from construction, house, work, gardening, and plumbing to light accounting, secretarying, and filing. I even had a 3 week internship at an observatory.

$13,000 - $20,000

I'm free anytime after 2:00 during college and anytime during Summer and breaks.

I'm a regular blood donator and a major contributor to the American Cancer Society due to fundraising with a local team.

I have a car.

I've never applied for anything above frycook.

I really have no idea what is so unappealing about my application. It's subpar, but there is nothing glaringly terrible about it, either. I think I just have sh*tty luck. I do in everything else.

WiiCubeM1

Theres no crappy luck. You are simply trying to find a job in a field that has a massive supply of people that employers can pick from.

My brother, as a software developer, gets emails and calls from head hunters nearly every single day because theres a huge demand for his skillset.

No one ever became wealthy by doing the exact same thing millions of other people are doing.

You realize that "occupy protesters" are only a barely recognizable percentage of this country's population, right?

Occupy is a joke. I think you'd be hard-pressed to find an Occupy protester who wouldn't switch places with someone in the "1 percent" in a heartbeat.

No! Ya think? I mean jeez being a millionaire is pretty damn tough and far harder than being in debt, I'll tell you that much. The more sensible ideals of the group are fairly spot on though. Stricter banking regulations would be a positive, CEO pay compared to a typical employees wages are absolutely insane right now and corporate interference in government is a major issue.

The only disappointing thing about the Occupy movements is that I have yet to hear anarchists making noise within those movements.

I blame the "be whoever you want to be" crap. English, philosophy, archaeology, ect are all terrible career choices. I think if you can't man up and choose business, engineering, law, nursing, and other jobs that have careers that can yield success or contribute to society. English majors, you're profession is stupid. That should be a class available to people over 40 who have already made a couple million on Wallstreet :P.

Schools shouldn't be allowing as many people into the humanities programs, nor should they be admitting anyone who is less than excellent. It should be one of those things you try with your actual real major to round yourself out.

While there are definitely people who are stupid enough to pick majors that will not get them jobs like English, philosophy, psychology, etc, some of the ideas the occupy movement had was good.

Yes and no. Working harder means you're more likely to do well relative to your peers, obviously. However, while not a zero-sum game, there are fewer work positions available than seekers. That IS a problem.

Many people don't work in their field though, and areas like History and Humanities are valuable to society just for different reasons.

Of course they're valuable, I didn't say they're not, it's just difficult to find good jobs with degrees in fields like that compared to things like engineering.

No, atleast you didn't others did however. One thing about Engineering though, and I'm not sure how big of a problem this is yet, but I did read something about it, is that alot of people from other countries (mostly Asian ones) are coming and taking U.S. Engineers jobs, because they're as good or better and willing to work for as much or cheaper.

Not exactly true. They're filling the lack of domestic engineering grads if anything.

Yeah, Asian people in general are much better at maths and sciences because of their education and work ethic, something I think our youth lacks.

There's no guarantee of graduate employment with any field. And it's not as simple as GPA.

Occupy protestors are just a symptom of a much larger problem in America brought on by free trade and technological innovation, and that problem is structural unemployment. In the old days, ie before the Great Depression, it was feasible for an immigrant from Italy or Ireland to come to work in America because there was a large demand for unskilled labour. Furthermore, in those days, a college degree in a "useless" field like literature or philosophy could pretty much guarantee you a good job because it told employers that you were smart and reliable. These days, there is a very low demand for unskilled labour. Industry is so mechanized and technologically advanced that many thousands of workers have been replaced by robots operated by college-educated technicians. This holds in automotive, steel, or any industry that once used the labor of thousands of people at a time. An immigrant from India did not get a "horrible education". These immigrants are not unskilled factory hands like in the old days, these are college educated and are used in the service sector, which do not have a use for people you'd find at an occupy protest.

[QUOTE="ZumaJones07"]i was watching hannity one day and he totally tore apart this OWS protester telling him he needs to get his ass off the streets and find a job no matter how menial or demeaning. i thought it was funny as shtkraychik
I saw that recently. This name of the pathetic loser is Harrison Schultz. Shockingly (or perhaps not-so-shockingly),Hannity offered the loser a job and he turned it down because he was demanding $80-100K per year. That guy was RIDICULOUS. He wants everything "for free".

I watched that clip and yeah, that guy is off his rocker. If he wants a job that pays $80,000 or more, he needs to go to work in Williamsport, PA where an energy boom in the natural gas field has 20 year old high school grads earning $120,000 a year, without a college degree. Right now, North Dakota has a 3% unemployment rate, the nations lowest, due to the oil fields which makes ND the 4th largest oil producing state. Source

There are jobs out there, if people would just accept the fact that they do not need a college degree. I posted about this previously. How many people want to own a house, realitively new vehicle as well as a boat or other motorized play toy and only work 6-8 months a year and still rake in 6 figures? Learn a trade instead of getting that college degree in humanities.
