Apparently someexperts state thathuman growth is superexponential and at some point we will really run out of resources and hit a doomsday scenario. Regardless of whether or not this is true, the human population is really enormous and perhaps the world was never meant to accommodate this many of a particular species. Do you think mother nature will take matters into her own hands and thin us out with a plague? Are wars and conflicts inevitable? Some people feel that's a way of nature controlling population - that we are almost hard wired to get into conflicts. Or will we just keep breeding until the envirornment is trashed and cant support us?

Plagues - We're too many and too spread out, we've got numerous centers around the world designed to fight any epidemics. Wars - the most likely, humans are greedy, and as we start to have less and less (everything becomes dispersed across larger populations) i can see greed/war as something that would cull the herd, but not kill us off entirely. Aliens - *puts on tin foil hat* maybe they'll save us with their super space powers, or maybe they'll just murder us all and harvest our organs for science.

I know im gonna get **** for this but, what on Gods green earth are we doing in Africa? The problem isn't so much disease or food shortages its the fact that they keep having sex and ****** out babies. There's a chart that i have to find that shows that industrilized countries have slow to non existant growth rate. Poor countries have enormous birth/growth rates. Thats where the problem lies. Everyone says how we need to contribute to more food and medicine in Africa, How about we tell them to stop ******ing so much eh? That would alleviate the problem a bit.

I hear there's quite a few (not just 2-3 isolated cases) of long haul truck drivers in africa having unprotected sex with hookers, and spreading aids. More aids + More unprotected sex = More Aids Babies = More help needed. Starving Families + having one more child = More starving children I agree with your solution.

Correct. The west's population change is pretty flat and in parts of Europe, it's decreasing.

India is certainly a major contributor. They'll have like 10 kids over there and then those 10 have 10. So on and so forth.

Humans just like any other species has a population limit, the carrying capacity.. Once this limit is reached, many will perish, and human will succumb to evolution in it's most conventional sense. Only the "fittest" will survive. In our case only those who have access to vital resources will survive.

Well, most of the Western world's population is getting older. The last massive increase in population, at least in the US, was the baby boomer generation. They'll be on their way out in the next couple decades.

The only way for us to sustain an ever-growing population is to colonize the next frontier: space. If we don't do this before we reach Earth's carrying capacity, millions and more will die.

When resources start becoming scarce, we will see a form of natural selection influenced more by society than by nature. While there will still be food and resource shortages in developed countries, those countries are the ones most capable of surviving such an event. Those developing counties you speak of, the ones with the ridiculous birth rates, are the ones that will be effected most from resource shortages. I mean, there are famines all over the developing world right now. Fast forward to a time where developed nations don't provide aid and resources are scarce. The developing nations that are causing the massive population increases are also the ones that will suffer most from the population increases. Expect to see the birth rate start dropping soon.

If you're worried about overpopulation, I sure hope you're vehemently opposed to donating billions of dollars worth of medicines to people in third world countries. Because that right there is causing a gigantic population increase.

given the kind of envirionment they grow up in, I don't think so. The Middle East is not Africa by any means, we have a good standard of living but we are no the west either. We have many people living a comfortable life, but we also have many that are on the bottom, literally. Mostly, these people say "We are bored and we don't have anything to live for or aspire, let's **** and bring teh babies". Basically, instead of giving them aid, give them something to live for and believe me, the last thing they will think of is having more than 3 kids.

I'm not talking about those in poverty. The middle class will slow down on births because they won't get bailed out and paid welfare by the child. The middle and and upper middle will think twice about if it's the right move.

Eventually we will reach our carrying capacity and then things will go downhill. Like others have said, industrialized countries will largely survive, but developing nations will fall to pieces once humanitarian aid runs dry. I think, over time, we'll see billions of people die from starvation and disease in third-world countries.

by lulz I mean war, genocide and billions dead of starvation.

It depends. A lot of asian cultures, especially here in the US, will have a ton of kids because in their culture, the children support their parents when they hit working age. Here in SoCal we have a huge Asain population and a lot of the middle aged ones don't have to work because their 4-5 kids support them. Similar in Mexican cultures. They'll have a ton of kids because they'll support the parents.

I find it funny many of those countries are digging their own graves by having too many children.

It'll be like that event this summer where millions of kids died of starvation, but instead of a 3 month period, it'll be a constant lack of supplies, and 1st world countries won't be saving them from their mistakes.

I'm not talking about those in poverty. The middle class will slow down on births because they won't get bailed out and paid welfare by the child. The middle and and upper middle will think twice about if it's the right move.

Considering the small percentage of the world's population those folks make, and considering their already relatively low birth rate, that's not really going to put a dent in the overall global population.

[QUOTE="GazaAli"]

given the kind of envirionment they grow up in, I don't think so.

How easily can get they get protection?

Its fairly easy. People know about the pill and other stuff I don't know about lol. Its just that they WANT to have the children because well...they are bored.

It's actually kind of sad how recursive the issue is with poverty and birth rates. Poorer people tend to have more kids because they want them to take care of them when they're older and to increase the chances of one of their kids becoming rich. But because we have so many people we can't provide equally for all of them. Because we can't provide equally for all of them they end up being poor. So on and so on. Eventually there's going to be population stabilization when it comes to these poorer countries with explosive birth rates. Whether it's going to be natural or a product of man I don't think anyone knows. Eventually though the lack of infrastructure will catch up with them though and there's really not a damn thing developed countries can do right now. It's cold as hell to say but it may not be such a bad thing for those regions.
